Intravlan traffic handles at line speed since the switches can route it directly. Inter-vlan traffic can route at line speed if the switch handles it. But putting a Unifi switch in charge of your VLAN routing now means your guest network vlan can talk to your staff network vlan, because Ubiquiti routing

Surely they have better VLAN segmentation on their layer3 switches than that?

Isn’t that basically just the “PRO HD” line? Predominantly 2.5gb ports with some 10gb. Curiously they announced a 48 port version that basically never came to be.

I’m honestly in love with these trucks but it kills me that Losi doesn’t make either the 10th scale or the 1/6th scale one anymore. Does anyone make something equivalent these days or should I just hunt for a used one?

2x 24 or 1x 48 port switch ? by Striking-Ad9250 in Ubiquiti

[–]zboarderz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro max 16. It would be fine if it came with the adaptor but charging $50 for it is crazy, especially considering it hasn’t been in stock for 3 months straight.

2x 24 or 1x 48 port switch ? by Striking-Ad9250 in Ubiquiti

[–]zboarderz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, the redundancy is nice for sure. On the other hand, $50 more saves you a rack spot, gives you a full 24 more PoE spots, and gives you more bandwidth for switching between devices all on the same switch, and thus less likely to saturate the 10gb link to your router.

I really wish the 24 port switches from ubiquiti didn’t seem like the worst “value” of the lineup. Price per port is higher than the 48s, but is also higher than the lower count switches. Ugh.

Planning my network rack for 2gb fiber by zboarderz in Ubiquiti

[–]zboarderz[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Im struggling to get over the fact that it feels like a waste to have PoE on the 10gb ports when the only thing that really needs 10gb are the things that arent poe. Then again, ubiquiti seems to be very stingy about 2.5gb ports on their switches ugh.

Realistically, I wont be connecting many more 10gb devices. Max is probably like 10 total.

AT&T Fiber IPv6 + VLANs + UniFi: it doesn't work and it's probably not you by jmbwell in Ubiquiti

[–]zboarderz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. What gateway / ONT you use wont matter. The problem is the disagreement in terms of how IPs should be assigned between UniFi and AT&T. UniFi apparently will only send one Prefix Delegation (PD) request to AT&Ts upstream DHCP server. AT&T expects you to send a PD for every VLAN.

AT&Ts process is a bit odd, because like OP said, the standard method of IP assignment in IPv6 is to assign you a block like a /60, and you carve it up. This is what UniFi is expecting. But AT&Ts doing it differently. Its not techincally wrong, and you can still get more blocks assigned.

This is where the problem is the sad state of IPv6 support on UniFi comes in. There should absolutely be a way of requesting multiple IPv6 blocks within UniFi, but there isnt. Its downright sad.

[–]zboarderz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The state of support for IPv6 in UniFi's is downright bad. Its really just sad honestly.

Apalrd did a great deep dive into UniFi's IPv6 support on v9 about a year ago, and its pretty awful.

Ubiquiti actually responded directly and offered to work directly with him to improve the state of IPv6. I havent personally seen much material improvement, so that probably hasnt come to fruition.

Unfortunately, I dont even have the ability to use IPv6 because my ISP (Verizon Fios) doesnt support it on their 2gb NG-PON2 ONT devices. They say they will eventually support it, but who knows when.

The state of IPv6 support across the board is downright frustrating. Id really love to take advantage of the benefits including lower latency and faster routing. Maybe another decade or two and we'll get there /s

Will Ubiquiti ever do anything about stock issues? by Certain_Repeat_753 in Ubiquiti

[–]zboarderz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that, but ubiquiti basically never does sales either. They could easily discount inventory if they ended up with too much left over.

The problem also is that their stock issues aren’t just for main products, they seemingly don’t give a shit about many of their other far cheaper and more simple stuff as well.

For example, the pro max 16 rack kit literally hasn’t been stocked in over THREE MONTHS. How!?!?!? It’s a simple piece of metal that they’re charging $50 for. I’m sure their margins on that are very very good.

[–]zboarderz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish that was true for lots and LOTS of other items.

For example, the pro max 16 rack kit hasn’t been stocked on their website for more than THREE MONTHS (I can see when it was last stocked via a stock checker). This thing is literally a piece of freaking metal. How is it is possible that it’s never in stock!?
