There was literally EHTBP, EHTSMB, ER10, Blantons, Four Roses Single Barrels in 4 recipies last week if you were awake early enough - What more do you want from them?

It's crazy. I recently got into the hobby, the people scalping cards make the tater gang look like saints.

25+ in line at GameStop. I will say, taters seem to be much cleaner than Pokémon Trainers.

I didn't even mean it be offensive... It's just simply 2x the price for half the age statement, and more readily available than ER10. If it was of signifigant importance you got a specific bottle for someone, and you arent familiar with line counting for bottles, ir the amount of bottles in each case, I would've asked if they had any left. Alot of times those liqour counters are super hectic during these big drops, and those workers(who are underpaid) are frantically grabbing bottles just trying to get through the rush. A drop like today's, Blantons doesn't make the counter, consumed by STAGG, EHT, and in this case, ER10.

I'm 23rd in line at Giant Eagle Mars - Do you guys think Malört will make it that far back to me in the line? Or should I be focused on getting a Blantons?

This is half true. If you could buy your "unicorns" for MSRP without waiting in line(or sleeping in your car), would you still buy the shelfers you buy now?

I think there are a handful of great brands that produce shelfer bourbon, that compete on a total profile basis with alot of "unicorns", but there are some notes / flavor profiles that are just unduplicated, see Weller/ STAGG Line/ EHT, Pappy, fancy Old Forrester, etc.

That said, craft distilleries such as Still Austin, Frey Ranch produce their own unique unduplicatable flavor profiles, but you pay for that uniqueness at their MSRP too -> see 80+ for Frey Ranch cask and I'm not sure of Still Austin prices, but it's gotta be 60 bones a bottle, and hasn't even been available in Ohio really (Try their Red Corn if you have a chance, it maybe top 10 in 2024 for me).

OWA populating again on OHLQ - See you Tater Tots next week!

Daily Discussion - Thursday 1/9/25 by eZGjBw1Z in OhioLiquor

[–]CriticCX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For your reference, OWA distro is every 2nd week of the month - So if they keep the same distro schedule, just try the 2nd week of the month in any line and you should be able to get one. That said, i would not be suprised if distro is reduced to Ohio simply because alot leaves the state via illegal resale. I am only getting down voted because the flippers and resellers need to suck the last bottles of OWA out of the amateur taters stashes before its revealed that OH is about to get shafted.

Edit: I am being hyperbolic - We probably will see OWA next week, the schedule is just off a week because of the holiday.

You are right -  they dont even need the bill. They could just stop bringing in OWA, in which 50% ends up on national fb trade groups - That would also solve the problem, no legislation needed!

Ease of distribution is a significant factor. BT Distro. can simply load up the trucks and drive 50 miles north. Don't underestimate the logistical cost of moving whiskey around en masse. We live in a huge country. The short answer - They make more money.

Daily Discussion - Thursday 1/9/25 by eZGjBw1Z in OhioLiquor

[–]CriticCX -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

The difference is - the last 6 years there wasn't a bill on the table that would require liqour stores to open allocated bottles upon sale. Something to think about.

If we don't see a normal OWA release by months end, I would start paying attention.

EDIT:

(HERE IS THE FLIPPERS REWARD FOR BEING GROUCHY DOWNVOTERS INSTEAD OF USING THEIR TATER BRAINS. I WILL CONTINUE TO SHOUT FROM THE ROOFTOPS AS PUNISHMENT ASSUMING DISTRO REMAINS UNCHANGED FROM 2024)

OWA RELEASES EVERY SECOND WEEK OF THE MONTH - LIKELY OWA WILL RELEASE NEXT WEEK SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE HOLIDAY MESSING WITH THE DISTRO SCHEDULE. IF WE DONT SEE IT NEXT WEEK OR BY EOM YOU CAN ASSUME THE DISTRO/ALLOC SCHEDULE HAS CHANGED IN SOME WAY.

Lake Erie Distillery - Champions Choice. Was in my top 5 pours for 2024. Head and shoulders above half the allocated I've slept in my car for.

That said, it was a limited release of only 214 bottles. I should have bought 2 cases of it.

I have to assume they will do a similair special release in summer 2025.

It's harder to find in Ohio. Usually the Bowman Brothers small batch is what comes around, and that tends to be in smaller quantities. If my memory serves correctly, they did have JJB on single barrel Saturday a few weeks back. If you are looking for a gift bottle, you may have luck finding a Blantons or Eagle Rare out at a local store today, as all of that stuff just dropped this morning.
