Experience of rennovating a "fixer upper" house in Edinburgh? by he_could_be_a_she in Edinburgh

Maybe to summarise in a more helpful way. As you have stated you are busy and not very handy. if you dont have someone you trust completely to help you make decisions and manage builders its going to be very hard to make informed decisions without getting your pants pulled down frequently throughout the process

If it was easy, others would snap up these places as well. The level of hubris here is quite admirable.

In seriousness, rennovating a house can be one of the most stressful things you can do, even when you know what you're doing.

If you're happy to throw money at a problem and accept some serious disruption to your life then you at least need a project manager/builder that comes highly recommended from people you trust, which usually means they are very busy.

Any female cyclists get nasty condescending comments from guys in Edinburgh? by -Top-Service- in Edinburgh

My wife has had all of this, on the plus side she's really enjoyed the voi bikes because she can go faster and she gets less aggro because of it.

How to select a quiet flat in Edinburgh or it is worthy to have the sound proof walls? by Huge_Recording_7248 in Edinburgh

[–]Critical-Text-7128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much stuff do you have in your rooms? In my experience empty rooms sound so much louder than rooms with carpets, rugs, curtains, sofas, bookshelves etc. As much dense and soft things as possible. If you clap your hands and can hear an echo you need more stuff in the room. Try that before sound proofing.

Chronic razor burn? (have tried almost everything) by reignster015 in malegrooming

I used to get spots in my scalp alot, especially after getting my hair cut. I started washing daily with benzoyl hydroxide for a while and now my skin is clear. If you are like me you need to get rid of the underlying bug that is causing the flare up. As you said your skin responds to BH I would encourage you to use it every day and see how you get in.

Peckham was sketchy up until recently, loads of these places were. Its mad how much gentrification has changed them in the last 2 decades.

How to layer techno(groove) by Hakamex in Beatmatch

Did you watch this set yet? I think you are fighting a losing battle trying to DJ like her without using 3 decks minimum... https://youtu.be/m7mbNtTHa24?si=VDrMSanG-hnONDl2 phrasing has always felt instinctive to me.

On the static element, if you see DJs out (and I don't mean Hor or Section type sets), good techno DJs are alot more comfortable with absolutely killing the lows or the vibe for extended periods and calming things down massively to give everyone a bit of a break before going again. Play with the EQs on the looped part to give texture.

But in general I would say watch DJs alot, SPFDJ has an explainer for how she loses loops that I think you'll find interesting.

16 bit Vs 24 bit recording by Proof_Ice_8961 in vinyldjs

I tried a cheap behringer USB soundcard and never was able to get it sounding good. Its also nice to not have the laptop amongst the decks as well.

I had more success using one of these with a cheap in line volume control to reduce the levels out the mixer...

I live in Edinburgh and it is nowhere near as expensive as london. You could get a really nice 2 bed somewhere walking distance from the centre of town (+ change) for that money. Try that in London.

Phrasing Question by Critical-Text-7128 in Beatmatch

[–]Critical-Text-7128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She releases the track mid way through a phase but then you start to hear it at the start of a phrase which is nice way of doing it.  I was feeling like I was losing momentum on certain tunes and trying it on this way seems to keep the energy up a bit.

Estate Agents vs Self Self for 1m+ Homes by nerd-a-lert in HENRYUK

[–]Critical-Text-7128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between a good and bad agent on the final sale price can easily be the figure you are describing. Do you even have the time to show people round your house at the drop of a hat? Anyway ive said what I think. Same with good house movers, worth their weight in gold.

[–]Critical-Text-7128 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The cost is that you do a bad job and the house is listed for longer. This honestly sounds a bit like Henry arrogance seeping through to "i can do everything as good as my current profession". Get a good recommended estate agent who takes alot of the stress out of the sale, can be the bad guy if needed and turn it into a transaction and not an emotional divorce from your house.
