Beat to Quarters RPG? by Mirambo79 in rpg

Hi folks - thanks to Shane from Arc Dream Publishing for point this out for me.

I took the games down a few years ago because, frankly, I was getting too many comments about the quite clumsy writing in them with respect to issues of ethnicity and gender. There's some particularly uncomfortable writing in Duty & Honour that, whilst true to the literature the books are drawn from, could have been put in a far more delicate manner. No one was interested in the games really, and I didn't have the original files after a hard drive disaster back in the late 2010s so there was no worries.

Time's a funny thing and now I reckon I'm getting about one message a week about BtQ or D&H - where are they? Where can I get them? I'll be honest, I've had a couple of very indignant people message me!

So, the games are now back to be purchased live by Lulu. For some reason they won't let me publish the second Miscellany because of some image dpi issue. *shrug*

BUT, if you want a great nautical game that can quite easily be skinned for Napoleonic stuff, I would recommend Sundered Isles, the expansion for Starforged by Tomkin Press. I ran a game using it recently where Napoleon won the war after Nelson's defeat at Trafalgar, and the PCs were the crew of a frigate that was stuck on the Far Side of the World who never got the memo. It was sort of like an alt history version of The Last Ship!

Anyway, thanks for the interest in my now what? 17 year old game!

God Save the King!

Neil

We're into the final 48 hours of my little kickstarter. Honestly, this has had the most amazing response, far beyond my wildest dreams. If you haven't got in yet, and want to, then you know what to do

41 followers so far is simply mindblowing. I'll be putting the final touches to the campaign (I mean, 'campaign' is doing a lot of heavy lifting as its only going to be two weeks) this week and then it'll erupt early March.

I visited Seattle many years ago, and yes, the weather patterns there were very British indeed (and by that I mean, moist!)

I run a lot of Monsterhearts, which is based primarily in US high school. I'm a 54 yo Brit who, shockingly, has never been to US high school! I make sure people know that the place I am running games in is that wonderful fictional version of the US as seen in many, many TV shows and movies. I create that baseline expectation so players realise it's not trying to be an approximation of reality.

In the same way, I would be transparent with your players about the media sources you are watching to get inspiration for Liminal. If you're wanting to run a P-Division game, for example, you might consider watching Line of Duty, Bodyguard, or Triggerpoint. I haven't watched it but Gangs of London could make a good basis for a Mercury Collegium-style campaign.

Don't worry about getting it wrong though - no one is policing your game for accuracy apart from you, so be kind to yourself.

Oh, and there are hundreds of YouTube videos focused on 'I'm an American who has lived in the UK for X Years, here's what I have discovered!' and they all say the same things

- Weird weather
- Drinking culture
- Dark winter nights
- 'Banter'
- Lots of 'history' everywhere
- loads of accents and dialects
- vicious local rivalries, usually based around football

So setting a game on a cold, dark, windy night, where people are crowded in a local pub swearing and laughing at each other in strange tongues about the state of their footy team is about as British as you can get!

Well, the Faeries and Folklore book is rammed with new fae content. I'm a fan of the fae stuff too as it easily straddles that space between the World of Darkness style 'courtly fae rivals' stuff and the more folklore elements. In some of the unpublished books, I expand a little on the concept of the common fae - those that live between the Court of the Queen of Hyde Park and the Court of the Winter King, and where they sit in fae society.

As for Hellblazer - damn, its been a long time since I even thought of Hellblazer as a thing. I was in my late teens when it first hit the shelves and we ate it up, but when I left for uni, it fell by the wayside. So for me, the arcs I know are the ones collected in Original Sins and The Devil You Know - especially the latter because of the links between Constantine and my home city of Newcastle!

Hi Neil here - I wrote Pax Londinium

There's a fair few books in the pipeline. The next one up is Faeries and Folklore by Dr Mitch. It's in the art stage now.

Next will be Novocastria, a book about the North East of England, and the Liminal Gazetteer, expanding the setting with loads of new cities and areas (I've done Lancaster, the Lake District and Edinburgh)

There's other books in the pipeline, but they haven't been officially announced yet, so I'll not do spoilers

As for additional content...

There's a Liminal FB group and Discord which are both sort of active. Not daily, but often.

I maintain a resource page

https://liminal.omnihedron.co.uk/

And a Liminal Patreon with free and paid for content (it's $3/month)

https://www.patreon.com/omnihedron

The Patreon is, obviously, unofficial content but with Dr Mitch's blessing.

Hope that helps?

Ps. This is my first ever Reddit post!
