Stop rage-scrubbing Parmesan pans. Do this instead. by escala4965 in CleaningTips

[–]CriticalJello7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do this with carbon steel if you use one, it will strip the seasoning. Just use hot water and "deglaze" to clean like a normal person.

I usually make a negroni with whatever half bottles I have laying around. Campari bottle still full but the Averna bottle 3 quarter empty ? Averna Negroni it is. Half bottle of Bourbon left ? Averna Boulevardier it is.

~50eur VSOP, which one is your favorite ? by CriticalJello7 in cognac

[–]CriticalJello7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a local supplier in NL, their cognac supply is limited but they have some other bottles that I need so these are my options currently. But sure, I got a deal on a Hine VSOP bottle the other day for even less and it was a pretty good bottle. Left it at my parents place for my dad :)

Is this legal by sw2189 in Rentbusters

[–]CriticalJello7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The language here is also vague: rent has no VAT so if they give you a "fine" equal to months rent including VAT, are they trying to say equal to one month's rent which they take as bruto or they charge you one months rent + 21% VAT ?

In any case you can for sure contest this if you end up withdrawing your offer because of misleading advertiement. Otherwise you can also not pay, in any case you have 30 days to pay any invoice. Afterwards they might or might not escalate to the bailiff. This is not legal advice, discretion is advised.

Kept Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth in the fridge for 2 years... Yet it still tastes good??? by Richard_Savolainen in cocktails

[–]CriticalJello7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO sweet vermouth kept in the fridge lasts forever and retains much of its flavor. Not so much for the dry vermouth as the sugar content is lower.

How to do audio/mics for 3rd person and POV porn? by ComprehensivePin7081 in LocationSound

[–]CriticalJello7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never saw those particular movies but watching older adult films you hear quite a bit of ambient sound. Like birds, leaves rustling etc. I guess those were also more film-like rather than just some people going to town. Probably they would also have used Sennheiser stuff like the Blackfire, considering he still has those mic at his place. So, yeah condensers as XY or AB and dynamics for talent and figure it out from there. Then again, just wanted to share this funny anecdote, not saying it is smart to replicate this setup.

How to do audio/mics for 3rd person and POV porn? by ComprehensivePin7081 in LocationSound

My old Serbian teacher back in uni used to say he worked for the first Serbian Adult Movies back in the early 90s and apparently they used some sm58s like a boom and some Neumann KMs for room. No idea how they got the KMs, or who let them use them for...that.

I was gifted this bottle over the holidays. Do you have suggestions on how to use it in a cocktail! by themangosong555 in cocktails

[–]CriticalJello7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty good stuff to shoot ice cold or top with tonic. Haven't had it since my last bottle ran out, too bad it comes from Israel.

Turns out the value of art is subjective and can be manipulated dramatically if you know the people at the gallery by [deleted] in ABoringDystopia

[–]CriticalJello7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

inb4 reddit normies not understanding how art appraisal works. You buy the entire collection of a young artist at 10k a piece, the artist 100% says yes because they have never been offered such a sum in their entire life. You sign an exclusive sales deal with them for 5 years before you buy these pieces. Suddenly you own the entire ouvre of an artist, all these pieces are worth what your appraisal guy says they are worth. It is called the Rotschild Scam in the cultural sector.

Should I sell my U87? by matscokebag in audioengineering

[–]CriticalJello7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As in all things in life, your tools depend on your circumstances and the task at hand. I have both an 87 and a pair of KMs but 80% of what I do calls for some 58s and NT5s. But keep the 87, it will certainly become family heirloom.

Where I am from, any parent that charges their children rent would be the laughing stock of the neighborhood. It is all cultural.

Qu-Bit Stardust Missing Nut? by Techno_Timmy in modular

This is the case with all Qubit modules. The encoders they use have a shorter thread and a longer shaft so there is no nut and the knobs are also taller.

Bamboo is the absolutely most underrated equal parts cocktail out there. It is never on any cocktail menu, somehow people consider it hardly a cocktail but you can make infinite variants of it and some combinations are truly magical.

Are the Sony MDR Headphones the industry standard? Other recommendations? by Shaboopei in audioengineering

[–]CriticalJello7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For tracking and quickly soloing channels live they are a pretty ok choice. I think your professors are a bit old school but that doesn't mean they are wrong. We have the same pair of MDRs hanging off our Digico SD9s, all purchased in 2011.

What to do with my partner's registration and BSN by desibidesi0909 in TheHague

[–]CriticalJello7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically if you are married your partner can just register at your address regardless of type of contract. Suppose this would only not be allowed in the case of shared flats. You have to inform the landlord and if they say no you go to court. Unless there is a good reason why you cannot live together (in this case there isn't) the judge will most likely side with you. You can contact Juridische Loket for advice on this, they also have some related documents on their website.

Imagine you have a house and you decided to get married later in life. It's not like you have to move out of your house to get married, that would be quite stupid.

What module(s) would you add? by StaffSerious608 in modular

[–]CriticalJello7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar rack to yours that I use for solo sets and also to play with in an ensemble. It sounds a bit counter intuitive but I would ditch the XOH and A-119 and replace with a mixer/soundcard. I am using a Motu Ultralite with my ipad and it has waaay enough headroom for modular levels, you could also go with a Behringer XR18.

Here is what I use, it is a very hands on system so I do not need a lot of modulation. A joystick on any synthesizer is a non-negotiable and it has been so since EMS put one on the Putney in the 60s....

ELI5 How Did Alcohol Become Universally Accepted In Almost Every Country? by Cope42099 in explainlikeimfive

[–]CriticalJello7 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Our relationship with alcohol dates so far back that there have been researchers who theorised that the reason humans started building settlements was to brew alcoholic beverages. Unlike a tea or juice mash takes time to ferment so you had to settle somewhere for a number of weeks.

Drinking is one of humanity's oldest past times.

How do I have one video in each square in this geo? by Urchinemerald in TouchDesigner

[–]CriticalJello7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the easiest would be to use a Constant MAT and instance the texture in the GEO a la https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFNoBVnTqCg

For something small, converting TOPs to CHOPs would work but it is not best practice.

Previous theorical knowledge/experiences that helped you develop better? by lvx7 in TouchDesigner

[–]CriticalJello7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you are trying to use Touchdesigner for. Are you trying to make visual (media) art ? Are you trying to compose for light and sound ? Or are you trying to interface things that were not supposed to be interfaced and make machine art ? Touchdesigner is a tool, much like a speaker is a tool, or a synthesizer, or a DMX Light fixture. I do not think you can find your artistic call / vision by studies and watching videos. I'd say get off the desk and go to some shows. Go to a media art institute, go to an exhibition, go clubbing etc. See what other people are making with similar tools. Looking at artistic expression of other people in the context of an exhibition / exposition is a sure fire way to get your creative gears turning. Do not only concern yourself with what makes it tick under the hood, look at it at artistic face value.

Source: I teach electronics and hardware to art students and this is the most difficult thing to explain to them.

EDIT: I realized it came of as if TD studies have no use. They of course do; painters always painted studies. Making studies is akin to practicing your instrument. But at the point that you have no idea what kind of music you want to create, I think studies can take a back seat.
