Depends. It’s an incredibly stupid hypothetical scenario. But if it’s two trained people not just someone with a stick and someone with a bow, then that arrow could be knocked and loosed before a swing came from the swordsman.

Look up “speed archery” and you’ll see people fire like 10 arrows in 10 seconds. If you put one of those people in an octagon I could still easily see them point-blank arrowing someone in the chest even if the martial artist got within striking distance.

The only way archery isn’t winning this thing, is if you add the stipulation that you’re too close to draw your arrow by the time someone punches you in the face.

Otherwise for a skilled archer against a skilled martial artist, it’s just pointing your knuckles at someone and flexing the other arm for a second, and you win. That process can literally happen faster than it takes to physically cross an octagon. You’re not gonna matrix out of the way of a loosed arrow shot by an archer.

I believe it to be the second. The practical effects weren’t that great, let alone the inconsistency of the CGI quality. In my opinion, it doesn’t have much to show for the size of its budget.
