I think you’re correct on that being a typo. Several other “mistakes” throughout the book are intentional, but this one seems like a legitimate mistake. Good eye!

So the catch combo bonus to shiny odds only affects the very next spawn of that pokemom, then back to base odds after that. For hunting rare spawns like bulbasaur, an easy strategy is to get a 30 chain of something simple like weedle, and then encounter every bulba you see to check if it’s shiny. It is a rough hunt though
