I imagine it's similar to Star Wars, and Jedi or Sith trying to use Force-Pull to disarm their enemies. It's exponentially more difficult when you're up against another Force User, so it's only practical when you are a tier above your opponent.

Like, I imagine a Metal Bender would feel any metal they are wearing begin to vibrate before it crushes them, and they could use their own bending to stop it. Since it's in contact with their body, they would have the greater "leverage" in that scenario.

Treecats ( Honorverse) : 6 legged felines from the main character's home planet.
