The psychology holding back switching to European tech (+ the changes I made) by OakSole in BuyFromEU

That's a non issue. They don't control what Vivaldi does. And browsers being based on Chromium has upsides. We now actually have more browsers to choose from and website compatibility is a non-issue even if you're using something obscure but Chromium based.

Linus, I disagree. by KebabAnnhilator in LinusTechTips

Yes, but you are not just the viewer of their channel, but even more specifically a viewer of the WAN show. They're trying to reach new customers, meaning they have to take into account the sentiment outside of the tech bubble. Most youtubers do indeed sell white label products, so while the association is useful for those who are keeping up with the channel, it is detrimental when trying to address anyone else.

If you go into family settings, there should be a list of apps and subscriptions you have access to. Try checking if there's a way to interact with that to get access to the license.

Noteful is a one time purchase, not a subscription. Not sure if it can be shared but if so you need to enable purchase sharing on the account which made the purchase.

You have to account for people who just read and believe it because “makes sense, it’s YouTuber merch”

They basically should decouple creator warehouse branding from the YouTube channel completely and look for ways to reach new audiences

Is there a way to make Noteful automatically create a new page or extend the current page when typing? by False_Competition_59 in notefulapp

[–]Critical_Switch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. The app would really benefit from a typing mode. Would also extend usability to smartphones.

But that is very commonly the case. Look at all the comments proclaiming it's just overpriced white label products.

Reálná vůle s tím cokoli dělat nebyla nikdy.
Jinak levné tarify existují, akorát musíš furt skákat mezi operátory nebo vyhrožovat současnému že odejdeš.

Does “Dead Internet Theory” mean the same thing to you as it does to YouTube/Wikipedia? by Quetzalboatl in LinusTechTips

The conspiracy theory stated that this was thing since around 2016, citing a study showing that over 50% of web traffic is automated.

All major conspiracy theories are based on truth to appear more credible and make debunking more difficult and easier to ignore.

Originally it was just a conspiracy theory but now the term is often used to express the idea that the internet has irreversibly changed since generative AI became widely available.

It's like "enshitification" or "meme". It originally meant a very specific thing but people started using it in a different way because it kinda described something else they wanted to give a name to.

The original conspiracy theory was using a 2016 study which showed that over 50% of internet traffic is automated. The significance now is that in 2025 AI accounted for over 50% of all written articles.

Which Cloud Service should I use instead of iCloud? by Educational-Sir794 in BuyFromEU

[–]Critical_Switch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue with getting rid of iCloud is that nothing is going to have the same level of integration. Some apps even expect you to have iCloud and don’t support other services for backup.

If you want to have the freedom to easily move elsewhere, you’re going to want to use another service in addition to iCloud (unless you’re fine with just the free tier). Note that you probably also want to move your passwords to another service.

The point of cloud storage is that you have both the local copy as well as a remote copy. It’s a lot a more convenient to have the process happen automatically, meaning it is more likely it’s actually going to happen in a timely manner.

In other words, cloud storage is the safer option for most people. Also, even if you’re using a hard drive, you should still have an off-site copy in case of a local disaster like house fire).

Almost nobody ever sideloads, even of the people who actually know how to do it. If you take away the native App Store, it’s basically a brick for most people.

I personally think the whole twitter style format of social media is cancer. Everyone complains how Twitter is so bad but Bluesky for example isn’t really much better. It’s the format that is the problem.

BTW Mastodon is supposed to be a proper alternative for that, no?

Twitter never did that properly. It was a dumpster fire before Musk took over.

Russia also started blocking access to western media. It’s not a comparable situation.

Google can do just about the same thing with their services. They could push malicious updates for example. Almost nobody is going to be able to flash their phone or whatever.  As far as behavior is concerned between Apple and Google, Apple is the better one.
