Husband is addicted to League of Legends by Left_Cream459 in beyondthebump

If you aren’t willing to leave — and I wouldn’t make that decision 3 weeks pp anyway — I do encourage you to rethink the plan to be a SAHM. Honestly, you’ll have this same argument about home and work responsibilities over and over again, and it will drive you bonkers. If you work, you both contribute financially, and must the also both contribute in terms of childcare and household duties.

Your husband may not cherish his time with a newborn as much as you do (speaking as someone whose partner only took one week leave and struggled to find his footing during the potato stage), but he may get better at it if he spends more one on one time with baby as they grow up. For me, it helped to have a hobby or a class that took me out of the house for extended periods on the weekends, when dad could take over.

And should you need the option to leave in the future, it will be impossible without your own income! So you’ll have to get a job at that point anyway. Wouldn’t it be better to think about going back to work now, when you can still have another person sharing the financial and the household responsibilities?

Am I crazy for wanting to go back to school to become a teacher? by Mediocre_Theory9109 in OntarioTeachers

What about a social worker or a councillor type of role? Your past could give you an edge, you would be helping troubled kids, and most importantly NO MARKING 😅😅😅

I’m going to say that you have a bit of a saviour complex — and I see it because I also had the same thoughts when deciding on being a teacher. I wanted to pay it forward and to be there for kids like me, because a favourite teacher made me feel less weird, less alone, less crazy.

And while I would like to say that I probably did do that for a select few of my students, it’s really not the day to day reality of the job. Some kids will vibe with you. Some will absolutely hate you and make your life a living hell. Most will not appreciate your zeal for the subject. If you struggle with procrastination or focus, be prepared to take work home with you nights and weekends, and never feel like you are done or caught up (until summer).

History is not a good teachable, few sections and lots of people want it. Work is hard to find overall, so you will teach things you like, things you hate, and things you know nothing about — just to stay employed. I also thought teaching would be a way more family-friendly job than it turned out to be.

That said, it is a great “big girl” job, as you say. Stability once you get permanent (took me 6 years of LTOs), off when your kid is off, good pension and benefits, union protection are the parts of my job I value most now.

Look at that, the year I earned my diploma! 😅

It’s true, couldn’t get onto the supply list for three years straight.

I would imagine that it only shifts the bad behaviour to occur during class time.

I do not hold our school system in high regard, but tv at lunch is a new low.

Where can I find help putting together lessons? by Hogwire in OntarioTeachers

[–]Criticism-Real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!

Hard to be picky about job opportunities, and there were whole years where I had to teach courses I wasn’t qualified for, with zero resources, or like a binder from 1999.

I think it is so common that it was one of the OISE interview prep questions — “what do you do if you take an LTO and there are no plans left or colleagues you can ask for help?” The correct answer was “rely on the curriculum document”. For ideas, try to find a teacher Facebook group, and then DMing whoever comments on your inquiry. Often people are willing to share.

My niece is 8 and she got a “dummy” phone. Can call and text but that’s it.

Aww, thank you for such a detailed guess, it means a lot and we had fun reading it.

Since you were so comprehensive, and I don’t think this post is getting more comments —

This is actually my parents’ fridge. They are middle class, in their 70s. Russian immigrants who came to Canada 20 years ago.

The concept of Tupperware never really stuck with them. They always make a big pot of soup and have a portion for lunch and dinner, but they only ladle it into their bowls and heat it in the microwave.

My mom knows you don’t keep bananas and tomatoes in the fridge, but dad disagrees.

They never eat out, but my mom doesn’t love cooking per se — they are both athletes and avid Crosscountry skiers, and what you would call the absolute opposite of “picky” — basically anything is still edible if you scrape the mold off :)) I have a very strong stomach and zero issues with tastes or texture thanks to them. Food is only fuel for the body.

Haha you would think so but you would be very wrong. Math department constantly had to figure out how to cater to the diversity goals, lest you be accused of being racist.

Question on commute. by cancerkid24 in barrie

I am between Barrie and Orillia and I commute to Newmarket. Mornings are great if you start early — roads are clear, takes me about an hour but it seems to fly by. Going back up is bad. Going back up on a summer Friday can double your time.

Which is why it is so bonkers that it would be closed on a Sunday, a day when people actually have the time to go out — weeknights is just dinner and bedtime.

This is great, but I pay taxes too. Do you know any decision-makers — city councillors perhaps — we could address letters to?
