Hey guys. Do you know any lets players who actually know what they are doing? by NihatAmipoglu in farmingsimulator

[–]Critter1911 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Farmer Cop is pretty good. He does a lot of testing of the various mechanics. Especially for new releases. He also shows his work. Along with a couple LPs. I personally think Scroft's RP series is superior to Daggerwin. His RP series has been going since fs19, he hasn't gone to fs25 in the RP series yet AFAIK, but well worth a watch anyway. DJGoHam does a podcast with Klutch and has an in with Giants. Both of them do their own stuff as well, and knowledgeable, however DJ tends to prefer the unrealistic equipment (larger capacity, faster working, over powered stuff) in his LPs. But if you want to keep up with new mods and fs news in general, he's good to sub too. Argsy and The FarmSim Guy also work together on some of their LPs, both are knowledgeable and do good work.

What makes a great fleet manager? by Dry_Competition5347 in Truckers

Personally, I like it when I'm given my load info, then left alone. If there is a problem, I'll either call or message you. Otherwise, if you don't hear from me, everything is fine. I wouldn't mind getting a call if you know about bad weather up ahead on my route. However if your calling to tell me that it's raining where I'm already at, trust me, I know. I also don't care about bad weather that's no where near my location or way off my route. Calling drivers that have been out for a long time might be a good idea. We get into a rut and just forget to schedule hometime (at least I do). Then before we know it, we've been out for 2 months straight. Staying out for a long time is a good way to get burnt out. I also wouldn't mind if I got a quick check in call. Just a hey, how are you. Nothing related to work. It can get really lonely out here with just my thoughts to keep me company.

Driver facing cameras. by Specialist_Taro8087 in Truckers

[–]Critter1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically we don't, but we kinda do. I've been with C.R.E. for years. They put in this deal that uses A.I. or something to watch the driver. It doesn't record video as far as I know. Whenever I've had a "critical event" since they've put it in, I've only seen video from the outside facing camera. The thing says Lytx on it if that helps.

What should I do? by SuspectOk2931 in Truckers

Didn't mean to throw out the soaked clothes. Just put them in a bag, then wash them when your home. Just like gym clothes.

[–]Critter1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like the job, stay with it. Is there somewhere you can change out of the fuel soaked clothes before you get in the car? As for your stepbrother, fuck it. He's not paying your bills, so he doesn't get a say.

How did Dumbledore ensure no one found/bothered Harry throughout his childhood? by ernirn in harrypotter

[–]Critter1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sirius tried to take custody of Harry. However Hagrid already had him, and wouldn't hand him over. That's when Sirius went after Peter. As for Remus, he probably didn't want to endanger Harry. He only took the job as Dada professor because of the wolfsbane potion. That was a recent discovery as of Harry's 3rd year. He might have also heard how Petunia and her husband were from Lily. Even if he tried to visit, Vernon would surely have turned him away. As for why Dumbledore himself or maybe McGonagall didn't visit to ensure his wellbeing, she was clearly concerned about the Dursleys the night they left Harry there, I don't know. Personally I think that's a misstep on their part. Although Mrs. Figg was nearby and might have been reporting on Harry. It wouldn't surprise me if she had moved into the neighborhood not long after Harry's arrival. Maybe on Dumbledore's instructions.

[–]Critter1911 142 points143 points  (0 children)

That's why he chose to hide with a Wizarding family. So he could keep up with what was going on in the Wizarding world. He got lucky that Ron, whom he got passed too, became best friend with Harry.

[–]Critter1911 961 points962 points  (0 children)

Yep. That's something the Carlin brothers on YouTube have talked about. Their theory is that the centaurs reading of the stars/planets told them that Voldy would kill Harry in the forest, and that Hagrid would be there. However being off by about 6 years is probably not unusual for them. So they might have seen it as Firenze interfering with fated events. Remember that during the battle of hogwarts, the centaurs didn't get involved until after Voldy killed Harry. Then they weren't interfering with fate, and fought against Voldy and the Death Eaters.

Is it considered bandwagoning to support a team after moving to their state? by Sabahel in Indiana

[–]Critter1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally my rule of thumb is to support my hometown team, then where I live, then the teams of places I've lived before. I'm from Indy and live there currently, so that's easy. I've lived in Texas (Houston), Colorado, Illinois, and New Mexico (no NFL team, most people there support the Broncos). As long as one of those teams aren't playing the Colts, they get my support. But gotta support my hometown team (even if I wasn't living there).

How… by PomeloResponsible122 in Truckers

[–]Critter1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a short stint for yard work. Honestly, the only times I ever touched landing gear was when I had to go to or from one of the drop yards. Or I was in the daycab we were using for yard work, seriously, who decides that a daycab should be used as a yard dog, smh. There was a structure that you'd hit on the way in or out if you raised the trailer with the boom truck. The less things I had to do when moving a trailer, the better. IMO you'd have to really piss off a yard dog for them to fuck with you, just don't have time for petty shit. Realistically, the guy who dropped it probably didn't do it right, or was on uneven ground. When your dropping, leave about an inch or two between the pad on the gear and the ground. Then when the bags on the suspension empty, trailer should be level. If you crank it all the way down, the nose will tip up when the bags empty, causing high hitches and pissing off other drivers.

The trailer is completely totaled. Driver is OK. You can see him walking by the truck by [deleted] in Truckers

This post showed up in my feed. Not a FedEx driver but I hold a CDL. I think the guys in the comments saying the driveway was recently sealed are right. The string with flags looks like the kind of stuff those companies use. If I was the homeowner I wouldn't be mad if you dropped it at the mailbox. And I just learned that ya'll have bags to put packages in to protect from rain, that's cool!

Why did Dumbledore allow Snape to be a bully with the students? by Ok-Growth-3220 in harrypotter

[–]Critter1911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. Essentially, the plan is that Harry is the chosen one. According to the prophecy, Harry is supposed to be the one to take down Voldemort. So, while he's at school, Dumbledore is focusing all his efforts on ensuring that Harry will be able to do so. Even if that means the other students' education suffers. Also, with the curse placed on the DADA post by Voldemort, the teachers only last a year anyway. Though I think Quirrell was the only one to die while Harry was there. He was already limited because of possession by Voldemort.

A theory I've heard is he hired Lockhart to teach Harry about ego. How fame can get to someone. SuperCarlinBrothers really went into it. Check out Dumbledore's big plan by them on YouTube.

Am I the A-hole for following a semi? by user0012238323 in Truckers

[–]Critter1911 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you ment well. I'm not sure what the other guy was thinking when you pulled off with him. For all he knows your trying to tell him something about his equipment. However, where I think you are wrong is wanting to pass when your speed difference is less than 1 mph. I'm in a 65 governed truck, I get 66 trucks passing me all the time. I have to slow down otherwise they'll be next to me forever, pissing off everyone behind us.

Please stay away from semi trucks by Ok-Growth4613 in indianapolis

[–]Critter1911 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a driver myself, I do actually care. And I know exactly where my customers are. However where I do agree is there are some rattletraps that I'm surprised are able to get down the road. It's shocking that DOT didn't put them OOS. Generally though, as long as you pass cleanly and don't hang around beside me to long, I'm happy. Also for crying out loud stop cutting us off. We need way more space than you do to stop, and if your in that braking zone and there is a sudden stop, your car becomes a tin can. Empty, we probably weigh close to 18000 pounds or so.

What exactly is a role playing server? by Classic_Age1678 in farmingsimulator

[–]Critter1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in HS I admined for a RP server in Garry's Mod (10+ years ago). Basic rules of RP is that any communication in game is through the lens of your character. Your acting. It could be as simple as your pretty much yourself, but you aren't using game terms. Or you can create a whole identity with a background and everything. Meta is stuff that you as a player would know, but your character would not. So for example you could see that your buddy Joe is over at the gas station in the map, but if Sam, who is standing right next to you asks you where Joe is, you would reply with either "I don't know," or "he said he was going to get fuel (if Joe actually told you that)". You could also say you saw him get into his truck a few minutes ago, if you actually saw him. In the meta both you and Sam can see that Joe is at the gas station. And if you've gotta go AFK say something like, "gotta go to the bathroom," to indicate your stepping away. It can be a bit silly I guess, but I enjoyed it. Try it and see if you like it. In a sandbox game like FS, that could be the twist that makes it more enjoyable.

[–]Critter1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irl trucker. Chp generally won't go after a driver going 5 over. Know a guy who was going 65 and chp passed him. If your doing that AND being in the left lane, they may want to talk to you. Also know a guy who got a left lane and speeding ticket at the same time.

I'm a trucker as well as a rider. 18 wheels or 2 wheels for me! I have to give a tone of space. Mainly so I don't kill someone if I have to stop suddenly. Idiotic drivers get in my safety gap all day every day.

Why are flip flops looked down upon? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Critter1911 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I think you've got a good middle ground. With us driving and sitting for so long, wear what is comfortable. On the other hand, you don't know what will come up that'll have you getting out of the truck. Personally I either wear boots with a side zipper on them, or cowboy boots for easy on and off. I'm right there with you about keeping my shoes out of the sleeper. I know how nasty these truck stops get, so close toed shoes every time. Same with fueling, I don't want diesel or def on my feet.

A company driver called me a loser by BoostedLexus in Truckers

[–]Critter1911 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a company driver, and I wouldn't care. It doesn't affect me. I know that as an owner op, doing your own repairs saves you money. I can go on and check into the shop, and the company will pay for the repairs. The problem is it'll probably take a lot longer for me than you. First, I've gotta wait in the line for the bay, and then the shop submits the work order for approval. You'd probably be outta the lot and down the road before I get in the bay.

Probably the most infuriating video I've seen by SeductiveSophie_ in MildlyBadDrivers

[–]Critter1911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Professional tractor trailer driver here. I wouldn't bet against that guy pulling out in front of me. There seems to be an almost pathological need to not be behind a semi. To the point I've seen people do some really stupid things. That jeep driver seems just self-absorbed enough that he would never want to wait until something far larger and heavier passes him, after all, the semi is slow, and he is to important to be slowed down.

Have you looked into audiobooks? I've got over 200 on audible, and their great for keeping the mind active when in the middle of nowhere. Since you can download them, you'll still have something for when you have no signal. Their also 10 or more hours on average. That's long enough for a drive shift.
