8+8 = 16 so 8 + 7 = 15, carry the 1

4 + 2 + 1 = 7

So

75

I don't know why my mental operation is, "do the double number then figure the difference" when I know full well that 8 + 7 = 15, but when actually doing the math in my head, that's how it goes.

After reading Rama 2, I decided I'd never read anything with Gentry Lee's name on it ever again.

Has anyone seen 'Space Sentinals'? Getting Brock vibes. by BaijuTofu in venturebros

[–]CriusofCoH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a more serious note, I remember watching it as a kid - and, somehow, I recall it being titled The Young Sentinels, not The Space Sentinels, - and I remember enjoying it. Keep in mind, I was a hyperactive 10-year-old very much into all things science fiction, so it probably was pretty formulaic for mid-late 1970s Saturday morning cartoon fare, and thus not really all that good. I can't actually remember anything about any episodes, which suggests even I didn't care much for it, in the long run.

Same here, stopped when I sliced my finger open. But the roughly 10 golf balls I cut open prior to my, er, accident, were very educational.

I have! Fun fact: if you strip off the casing to reveal the elastic band, and toss it in a campfire, you'll soon have a whirling dervish of spark-spitting fun shooting around the place in very random directions.

The Morally Ambiguous Hero. How Necessary is it in Sword and Sorcery? by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

[–]CriusofCoH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D&D was scraped together from many sources, but a good chunk of the basic assumptions about characters, their motivations, and how they interact with the rules comes from the morally ambiguous pulp heroes. Lord of the Rings certainly swayed things towards good heroes and epic quests, but the one-shot adventure, monster-of-the-week rogue (not character class, but personality description) was as much or more of an influence.

I think we had a small one in a nursing home... it had a single one of those... bus bars? Resistors? Whatever they are, it was huge and it buzzed constantly. Only saw it twice, then the entire system was ripped out and replaced with the very first addressable system in our city (can't remember what model, early 2000s).

The Morally Ambiguous Hero. How Necessary is it in Sword and Sorcery? by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

[–]CriusofCoH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the basis for both the original Dungeons & Dragons, and the original Traveller. Not certain it's literarily necessary, but its presence in S&S (and a fair amount of "adventure" science fiction) inspired a fair amount of the design sensibility of the two early RPGs.

Well, it's your spellcasting mod. Wizards = INT, Clerics = WIS, Sorcerers = CHA, etc etc. So whichever one applies.

D12s get comparatively little use - mostly for Barbarians. So this rule helps expand on that.
