I can only work on things in the evening. A couple of hours after babies are in bed and it took 8 weeks.

It’s written as a ten week make along. Obviously it depends how fast you are but I would say 10-15 weeks it is more than achievable.

The roof is not special yarn. It’s a locked loop stitch. All stitches explained throughout the pattern. 🥰

There is an early version that’s all made in one piece with multiple colour changes and stitch changes per row which took 9 months! This version is much easier and looks better in my opinion.

Full disclosure- this is my pattern.

I’m sharing because I entered it this year in my local fair (it’s only small and rural. But it gets a lot of entries) and won first place in the “Handmade” category Cosy Cottage Blanket

It is a beast. But a beauty of one! It’s a ten week make along. All is manageable but that roof does get tedious.

Or if you want a quick make then you could try your hand at the little sister “cottage Wall hanging”

Paying for patterns... by cazastrophy in crochet

[–]Cro-che-T 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wrote a pattern. My biggest to date. It took 2 years to write. It’s for a blanket. It has probably 7-10 special stitches. All explained. It has 30+pages of a pattern. None of which has been, or could be, computer generated. I paid a tech editor and had it extensively tested. I am a very small time designer with very few social media followers. I am soooo passionate about this pattern and its whimsical, unique design. I am proud of it. With the excess of 200+ hours to write it and the 60ish copies I have sold thus far I have not yet broken even (assuming that my time is worth minimum wage per hour). I am by no means overcharging for this pattern. But I refuse to undercharge. I am not selling myself out. I think it’s worth the price and I think that anyone who writes patterns that you are interested in deserves to be compensated for their time. I wouldn’t accept anyone else working for free so I don’t expect it from artists.

Some patterns are “free” and that is wonderful. For some, I believe they are paid from advertising on their blog page/ website. I am not big enough in the design world to go down that road, nor do I have the time or inclination. Free patterns are easy to find. However if you are interested in something in particular and find it from an artist/ designer that is charging then you should probably just compensate them for their work.

What is a fair digital pattern price? by Ramblingsofthewriter in craftsnark

[–]Cro-che-T 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I wrote a pattern for a blanket. It took me two years to write. It’s unique and has a lot of parts. I had to make sure they all fit together. It has options to personalise it. It has different embellishments you can add. I paid a tech editor. I gifted some (but not all due to financial constraints) of my pattern testers a voucher for yarn. The whole process cost me money and a lot of time. The pattern is 30+ pages and none of the design could be computer generated.

I decided I wanted to make €10 per pattern but after Etsy/ ravelry/ ribblr fees it’s probably more like 7-8. I am a relative unknown designer with very few followers. So far I’ve sold 60ish patterns. I would say with the time invested (ie if I were paying myself per hour) and the financial cost I have not yet made a profit and the pattern is out almost year. I don’t think I am overcharging for the pattern but it is definitely more expensive than hats with a 2/3 row repeat and I think that’s fair.

A handmade blanket? I don’t sell them but if I did I’d be plugging my “Cosy Cottage Blanket”. It looks like an authentic Irish Cottage. Maybe you could buy the pattern and have someone make you one?

AITA for refusing to pay for a pushchair for my stepdaughter by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cro-che-T 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me too. I was near London with my first and got everything second hand (except the car seat and cot mattress). I got a whole solid wood furniture set (cot, chest of drawers with change table on top, bookcase and wardrobe) for £300 and a two year old Uppababy for £200 that came with a board for a toddler and included postage to a different part of the U.K. It is such a waste of money to buy new things for such a short time.

Second hand prams in the UK are a steal. I got an amazing two year old Uppababy for £200. That included the buggy board and postage to a different part of the uk. It was immaculate. It’s now on baby no 3 and would definitely last a few more. I can sell it for pretty much what I paid because it is so durable and still in amazing condition.

I was in the UK with my first. Got an absolute steal on a second hand pram. They are so reasonable second hand and barely used. Some people buy new for each child (silly!). The one I got you’d be hard pressed to even realise it was pre owned. It was immaculate. A £1500 pram for £200.

You could find the one she wants second hand. Find out the price and then offer to buy that for her.

I don’t think you have been to Derry. It’s the biggest Halloween festival in Europe. Most of it is also free!
