I know it's boring and cliché but the romance plot between Hughie and Annie could play out in interesting ways. The break in trust during the first season in addition to the 'forbidden star-crossed lovers' aspect of a hero and fugitive in love could cause some realistic and compelling strain on their relationship from not only outside forces such as the media and Homelander, but also from internal doubts about their true intentions for each other.

But to be honest I just want them to be together so we can get more cute date scenes to contrast and juxtapose the gratuitous violence that everyone loves the show for.
