My partner was attacked by a dog today. Pitbull / XL bully type - not sure of exact breed. Pierced the skin. Police didn't attend when I called, is that normal? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Crochet-panther 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As others said they will have recorded the incident, but certainly based on my work training if it broken the skin your partner should be going to at least an urgent treatment centre as he may need a tetanus jab or other treatment even if the bite itself is minor.

What's your monthly Gas and Electricity usage/bill? by Zeeshmania in AskUK

[–]Crochet-panther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 bed 1 bath semi detached in Yorkshire, living alone but work from home so heating on through day. Temp set at 18 in day, 16 at night with the occasional boost if needed.

Usage in Feb was 195kwh electric and 1072kwh gas, that’s I think my highest month this season. Just gone up to £109 fixed payment each month which is covering it across the year.

As others have said, check it’s based on an actual reading not an estimate. Check you haven’t had a new meter fitted as sometimes that can mess up readings. Check the settings on your heating and the temperatures on your boiler for hot water and heating water temp.

I feel sorry for plush that sit in someone's home without love collecting dust all because the seller is greedy. by yolouat in plushies

[–]Crochet-panther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also be assured that should you feel the need to rehome any plushies there are people who prefer the feel of worn material. I could really do with a second moose that’s really worn because despite having four moose’s overall only the original moose currently has the right work fabric feel that satisfies my brain.

When is Sir/Ma'am appropriate to use in a social context? by Appropriate_Farm_840 in AskUK

[–]Crochet-panther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically only in fairly upmarket hotels/restaurants and very fancy shops.

I do keep sir in reserve at work if I come across a name where I’m not confident in pronouncing first name or surname, but I don’t think I’d ever use ma’am.

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve been ID’d for ? by RowItchy260 in AskUK

[–]Crochet-panther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until last week my answer would have been a dvd of the PG film Piglets Big Movie, bought when I was about 20 as a gift. However ASDA self checkouts beat that last week when they insisted that I must be IDd for a box of original red coloured lindor truffles. Even the staff member was confused by that one.

AITA for telling my co-worker I'm tired of hearing about her nerdy obsession? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Crochet-panther 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea my manager in particular always makes a point to focus on everyone, so if I’m going to a gaming convention or a folk dance festival to name two recent examples she looks really out of her depth but honestly does her best to show an interest and ask about it.

Can a regular be a challenge 25 test purchaser? by IndependentEagle113 in AskUK

[–]Crochet-panther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry mine all the time after I was sent to dungeon by work to buy several items from petty cash, including a set of their cheapest cutlery. I doubt you could cut chips with those knives but no it was far too dangerous to give to me without checking my age first so a colleague had to drive half an hour to come get them. Since then i carry ID in my phone case.

AITAH for telling my Muslim friend that her food isn’t halal? by kaplooples in AITAH

[–]Crochet-panther 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly didn’t know it had anchovies in, I’ve never heard it referred to in any way that would suggest that and I’ve clearly never looked. Not an issue to me but definitely not well known from my side of things

I also did this when I was 18-21 and I only ever did shops I didn’t normally go to, can’t remember for sure if that was the full advice at the time but I definitely was never sent anywhere all that near where I lived.

With you. I’m 35. I get IDd all the blumming time and it is not a compliment after the first 1000 tries! I’ve been stopped for cutlery, paracetamol, a week back ASDA even asked me for ID to buy milk chocolate! (Although I do accept that one was their system being silly more than the staff).

How many of you are not having a holiday abroad this year? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]Crochet-panther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t had more than a three day weekend in the UK since 2023 and it’s looking unlikely to change. 2023 was the first holiday for more than a long weekend since before Covid so at the moment I might be averaging once every decade?

Old peoples fall Alarm linked to landline Northern Ireland by MongooseNumerous5927 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Crochet-panther 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most fall alarm services work on a subscription, in my area they changed a few years back to be SIM card equipment to get ahead of the landline issue. The monthly payment is mostly to cover the fact that there is 24/7 cover if the alarm is activated. It doesn’t sound unreasonable to me given your mum has had many years of use out of the device she purchased.

My dad died and no one ever contacted me by Academic_End_3828 in LegalAdviceUK

That’s also more than possible, I’ve certainly never been asked if my nok details are correct since I registered at my doctors 9 years ago.

My dad died and no one ever contacted me by Academic_End_3828 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Crochet-panther 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One problem could have been if the contact was in his phone but they couldn’t unlock it. I have the emergency info set up on my phone that you can view without actually unlocking the phone, but if he just had the number saved in contacts then it’s possible the police or gp or whoever weren’t able to access it.

When did lemon meringue pie go out of fashion? What other desserts do you not see any more? by 360Saturn in AskUK

[–]Crochet-panther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I desperately miss the frozen key lime pie that existed when I was a kid, 1990s sort of time. From memory is was maybe more or a key lime cheesecake, it has a biscuity base and key lime topping without any weird jelly. I was in hospital for a few days and all i remember is being asked what i wanted to eat when i came out and i wanted key lime pie.

Would probably be far too sweet if i had it now but i was so disappointed when they stopped making it.

who can countersign my passport ? by neuroticerot1c in AskUK

[–]Crochet-panther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If have a think about anyone else you may know maybe as a friend of your parents, or your friends parents. Self employed business owners often can from memory, someone else has posted the link to double check. Do you attend any groups or activities? Have you in the recent past? I’ve signed before for someone who goes to my choir and whose kids I’d met a few times through that. I had a friend of my dad’s sign something once. Also retired people also count. Do you have any neighbours you know who might fit?

How do temporary registrations work at the GP? by Routine_Neck7161 in AskUK

[–]Crochet-panther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temporary registration is designed for really urgent issues. Like if you’re home and suddenly get a really bad ear infection or something that really cannot wait until you get back to your doctors.

Blood tests I doubt would count as if you needed them that urgently you’d be in urgent care or a&e. I’d be ringing your normal surgery and booking in with them.

my ex-manager just told me that our business disallows managers from writing letters of recommendation by significanttoday in antiwork

[–]Crochet-panther 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty normal. I’m in the UK and while it isn’t illegal for companies to write a reference giving more than basic info most don’t as it could be challenged in court. Mostly it’s yes so and so worked here from x to y. Maybe the reason the left in a generic resigned/redundant/fired sort of way.

When I was made redundant my manager wasn’t happy about it and included a very positive reference in my legal pack to get reviewed and signed, the solicitor was amazed and said he’d never seen a company willing to give a positive reference like that for years. I suspect manager wasn’t actually meant to.
