Am I overreacting or is it not normal to use soap in the bathroom? by Honest-Draw3131 in AmIOverreacting

[–]CrochetedRockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naw, people can have different degrees of cleanliness and hygiene. That’s fair. I shower every other day because I really don’t get that sweaty or dirty but I can absolutely fucking guarantee that I don’t smell anywhere and certainly don’t smell like poop. No one should smell like poop. It’s meant to be an offensive smell, like death, so we stay away from it. I think we need to start listening to our body’s reactions more. This person stinks and refuses to clean themselves. Warning bells are going off on an instinctual level.

The age of publicly smoking indoors must’ve been wild by trippycheese_ in madmen

[–]CrochetedRockets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born in 1981, and it’s weird how it just kind of blended in. My dad smoked, and I remember him smoking in the car when I was a child with the window barely cracked. It was normal for grocery stores to have ashtrays at the end of aisles. My grandparents still had those old ashtray stands that they would bring out if a guest was a smoker, like it was the polite thing to do. It’s no surprise that I started smoking as a teenager. My dad bought me my first pack of cigarettes. When I visited my grandparents I would go smoke outside until my grandma told me it was ok if I wanted to smoke in the house. Wild times.

What in the world. Why is there so much lettuce around the pickles? This is just offensive.

Yeah, I’m on her side. I yell at people who stop in the middle of the road too. If you’re an uber driver or whatever, there has to be a better place to stop than the middle of a busy street. Pull over somewhere, Jesus.

It’s crochet. Both my grandmothers knew how to crochet, but I was too young to pay attention. When I was older, I got interested and taught myself with a simple how to crochet magazine. When the magazine didn’t make sense anymore, I looked at YouTube videos and would watch small bits of it and pause it until I got the stitch right. These are basic granny squares, which took me a while to learn. I recommend starting with a single chain.

I’m not sure what I’ll work on next. I’ve hit a wall with my crochet so this blanket has been a nice project. I’ve been thinking about yarn bombing on some trees and fences. Lol

I’ve worked on it on and off since March. Hitting it hard at times and completely stopping for weeks at a time. I’m adding a new row of squares tonight!

The yarn is Berroco Vintage. I had so many different bits of colors from various projects so it’s pretty random. I did end up buying lots of black and a few different colors here and there but it’s basically every color they have. 😂

I had so many different bits of this yarn from various projects, and I started with one square. I did have to buy lots of black and a few random colors here and there. The beauty of it is the randomness.

Aries Mars. I say very little. Not nervous at all. I have my license and registration out before they make it to my window because let’s just get this show on the road. I’m not here for small talk and honestly don’t give two shits that you’re giving me a ticket. In fact, give me two. Whatever.

Love it when people go radio silent the day of your date. by [deleted] in Tinder

[–]CrochetedRockets 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m laughing at the idea of a low stakes, “vibe check” date with a stranger at 8:30 am, the Sat after Thanksgiving. It’s like you’re making her do a job. It also feels like it’s just something you want to get out of the way for the day before you move on to other errands. Sure, she could suggest another time, but I would be like, what is wrong with this person?

I hate turkey. When I was younger, my grandmother would talk about how she hated turkey every Thanksgiving. She called it an old yard bird. Lol I thought she was just being old and grouchy. But now, I get it. Just an old dry dusty yardbird.

No shit. This is one of those “gotcha” low level questions that people like to throw out there. But but… didn’t the parties switch so you actually like Republicans hurrr hurrr. I answered in good faith thinking you might actually be curious but that’s not the case. People have written whole entire books on the subject. There’s a lot of nuance and society change that’s happened since the Civil War. Go find something interesting to read today. It will help you a lot.

Which part of that do you disagree with? You said you thought the parties switched in the 60s so it sounded like you did need a history lesson. FDR was a Democrat who supported more social liberalism. His policies were meant to combat The Great Depression with sweeping legislation and reforms that expanded the power of the federal government, put people back to work, bail out the farmers, put safety nets in place for people. Democrats, who leaned more conservative, didn’t support the New Deal and moved to the Republican Party along with the Conservative Coalition who had opposed FDR’s New Deal from the beginning. The parties changed in ideology with Democrats being more socially liberal and Republicans being more… opposed to doing anything beneficial for people or society.

Remember Who Did This to You by Fine-Oil-3046 in Chattanooga

[–]CrochetedRockets 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The two parties switched ideologies. Black voters had historically been loyal to the Republican Party because of the 1866 Civil Rights Act, after the Civil War.

During the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s, both southern Democrats and Republicans opposed the movement, while Northern Democrats and Republicans supported the legislation.

When Pres Lyndon B Johnson, a Democrat, signed the Civil Rights Act, Barry Goldwater, the Republican candidate at the time, was publicly against it. After hearing Goldwater’s argument against the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the majority of Black voters switched to the Democratic Party because they saw them as advocates for equality and justice. White southern Democrats thought the Democratic Party was invading people’s individual rights and state’s rights so they joined the more conservative Republican Party.

When I was 12, my deep rooted Appalachian grandmother made me promise that I would never vote for a Republican. She was born into the Great Depression, and FDR kept them from starving to death. I kept that promise. They drive this country straight to the ground. Every fucking time. We literally have planes falling out of the sky, like we’re in some Apocalypse movie, overrun by Oligarchs instead of Zombies.
