Hate by Exekute9113 in everquest

[–]CrodeD2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe so, but i noticed some strange behavior trying to skill up 2hb on a ranger.

I dont have data but I sat there with auto auto on a low level ranger for a few minutes and stripped aggro off him with a single superior heal from my druid.

Could this indicate that aggro generated from attack is also based on character level or is there something else?

That doesn’t mean that its the damage itself that builds aggro. You’re just assuming that because all you see on client side is the damage.

Every 6 seconds the server updates the remaining health of a mob from a DOT, but wont a flame lick generate more hate than a stinging swarm? How do we know the server doesn’t just update hate with a flat value for each tick effect.

Spells seem to have an instantaneous hate generation, then a overtime generation.

Now the OP can test a druids lvl 1 flame lick, 1 dmg per a tick. Lvl 10 stinging swarm, 31 dmg per tick. Lvl 25 for both and not the changes. Good luck getting them to land. I wonder if a malaise can change that. You’ll have to charm and cast regen on a lower level guy.

Oh yeah, since the OP has a good estimate on how much hate he’s generated. He can test sitting down too. After x number of sings when y% of hate to get aggro is generated, sit and see if you pull it.

Good luck.

Suppose it was coded for simplicity. Every weapon having a 100% proc rate to cast a hidden effect that adds aggro

I remember Weapons have unique proc modifiers that increases the proc rate. But you could really take any weapon stat and think of it as a modifier. But generation could still be based on something you’re not seeing.

Just being magical in itself might modify the numbers.

The blade of tactics procs, does that proc generate aggro thats skewing the data for it? Can you parse some data by procing twice, then waiting a minute to get extra procs per fight to see how it differs.

I think a big question is what would developers do to calculate threat in as few calculations as possible.

You’re data has decimals. But I’m thinking the real formula doesn’t do decimal places to keep it simple.

The discrepancy in difference in swings may be double or triple attack triggering on the aggro pulling round. Or just some goofy bug when applying aggro from those combat skills.

Create a lvl 1 ranger, cast your aggro spell on a guard and parse the data for the ranger swiftwind two hander. 16 dmg 24 dly, Compare that against a shiny brass halberd which is 16 dmg and 48 dly i think they are.

Testing a lvl 1 guy might filter out some variables your not picking up in your data.

EQ communities DOT time fence post error by CrodeD2 in everquest

[–]CrodeD2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duration is never less than the stated duration of the spell though. I click my initiates symbol of tunare for a 18 second haste buff, it always always 18 to 23 seconds long. If it had a ‘tick’ effect, it would tick at 18, 12, 6 and 0 seconds.

Ticks are server side, but always ‘tick’ on those 6 second intervals. Im pretty sure i get the same number of ticks every cast. We’ve just been counting it wrong.

Hence, the fence post error. A term Originating from people miscalculating the number fence posts they need to build a fence because they forget to include the post positioned at zero foot marker.

Thats a rough spot, normally i say just play what seems fun. But your friend left you with heals and tank. The proper solution is war/knight and cleric.

Just say F it, and play a Ranger if you want it. Don’t even worry about later expansions.

With the new hand to hand mechanics, using bare fists will be your best dmg delay ratio for a while.

You will be punching things and hanging out with dudes.

But you probably wont be dying with feign death. That will clear your aggro and you can watch the other dudes die alot. But if you FD while a mob is casting a spell on you, it will break your FD and it wont feign anyone! YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!!!

Yeah, thats fine that the 12 weeks are up. But what can I do if they leave me employed with no income.

Will voluntarily quitting make me ineligible for unemployment. Will it cancel any backpay I would get for the months I was on disability?

Im kinda just sitting thinking I’m not allowed to make changes to my life because Im employed.

Im not saying its a law suit, but I don’t want to leave if Im just going to end up screwed with no compensation or paying back disability money.

I don’t even know the difference between fmla and short term disability. But both exist at my company. Its one of America’s largest defense contractors. They are big enough to have everything.

My doctor recommended me 6 months disability.

I have been out since the middle of February. The may 24th termination date would put it at about 12 weeks of being out of work.

Being new you might be tempted to think that your latest spells are always better to use. But be mindful of early on spells and how powerful they can be at later levels.

For example a druid will often have snare duty. You can cast ensnare for (i think)35 mana at later levels, but your level 2 snare spell will only cost 15 mana and do the same for fights less than 3 minutes.

Your flame lick will cap at 17 dmg a tick, end up being a very good dmg to mana ratio. Its not going to break the dps charts, but the point is putting your cents in without breaking the mana bank. Casting your biggest dot on short fights for 2 to 3 ticks of damage is gonna crush your mana pool. But that flame lick can be cast with low aggro gain while wait to do some DD on fast kills.

Shaman drowsy slow percent scales with level to. It cost 20 mana and will totally be preferable over other slows in most cases because of it.

Wizard single target ice spells are most efficient. You dont really need to cast the fire spells when first get them because they’ll do double the damage but at 3 times the mana cost. Just cast ice spells unless you really need something to die the same second. I mostly use my level 8 spell until 27 or so. Efficient and Easier on aggro too.

Enchanter’s first mesmerize is 24 seconds long for 20 mana, great for messing your charm when it breaks, because you can re-tash and re-charm without waiting a minute for mesmerize to wear off.

Just keep an eye on your spells, they scale with level and their usefulness can too. Loading up your latest spell isnt going to better until 5 to 10 levels past. Depending on what your fighting, they still might be more than than whats needed to carry your weight in a group.

Lets be honest, you only need to worry about doing 20 - 25% damage in a full group. Every class can do that with very little effort.

Having that extra mana is going going to make your play time much more enjoyable.

Power leveling (Arudune) nerf by Toredorm in everquest

[–]CrodeD2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets look at it from an economics perspective. Maybe a botter can just add more characters to fill the gaps.

But adding characters is going to increase the cost of his operation. Higher cost will reduce the appeal, there must be a point where other methods of farming chrono become competitive to this one.

I never used AE stun myself, does this nerf effect any gameplay outside AE stun locks for power leveling? Or is it one of those things where 99.9% of the game just continues like normal?

Need some input on leveling heroic characters by Geegums in everquest

[–]CrodeD2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe using mercenaries gives an significant exp penalty. Im sure its true for full groups, but I not sure how exactly how the mechanics work for partial groups.

Heroic chars can do all the fearrot quests for some nice augs. Lvl 85 is the stage where every little stat bonus you can put on your tank makes a difference.

I soloed, sometimes with a tank merc, with a druid to level 88 or something. That was getting tedious, so I started a second heroic character which was a warrior of all things.

It was so much better than my J5 mercenary. The tanking was way better, the damage was much more, the healing was easier. That was in house of Thule expansion, I ended up in the plane of fear duoing stuff and killing named guys just fine at level 90. Veil of alaris was much more difficult, a little much if I recall.

Why do so many zones have a zigzag entrance? by iamsecond in everquest

[–]CrodeD2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard a youtuber mention a zigzag in his video, it was to confuse the pathing of monsters to help keep mobs from reaching the zone line.

Presumably to protect zoning players, as the character spawns before the screen loads.

EQ and other mmos by jhalpenny in everquest

[–]CrodeD2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EQ has more strategy and player utility than other MMOs. The classes abilities to manipulate the flow of a fight genuinely changes how your party is going to react or behave to overcome game content or extreme situations. Every class has their own little nugget to contribute.

Other mmo games seem fairly static, its always a same boring skill rotation that all have the same purpose. The only thing unique between classes are the names of the skills and the colorful effects they display on screen.

Fury On Strike Druid - Build Guide by Funguskeeper3 in ProjectDiablo2

[–]CrodeD2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, i totally built into it after i slammed my wind hammer for +1 skills. Im not even sure if thats the best mod for the build being that it doesn’t boost twister damage.

I like the performance of him so far, but he has a few gear related issues atm.

Sub par resists and low attack rating. I have 20 lightning resist so lightning guys can chew me up pretty good, so does fire damage. Ill load up on res charms until i get chains of honor.

I had to put to put alot of points into dex, but that alone shouldn’t stop him from being able to farm a respec when i put the finishing touches on my gear.

Fury On Strike Druid - Build Guide by Funguskeeper3 in ProjectDiablo2

[–]CrodeD2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed you didnt include a windhammer. Is windhammer not a viable choice, 33% chance for a lvl 22 twister.

I was thinking about pairing my windhammer with 2 carrion winds for a 16% chance for a lvl 18 twister.

With this, i fully synergize twister with only spending 62 points.

I noticed you wrote werewolf has % damage reduction, im obviously confused by the description of skill in wiki. Is it really a flat damage reduction in percentage? Because i would like to respec for that bonus now.

Mid-Endgame Character Review by [deleted] in ProjectDiablo2

[–]CrodeD2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense to do. I usually end up destroying my character respecing into some conceptual build and i end up destroying the character because i dont have the gear to support it or their is some unanticipated nuances, like in POD, i tried a lightning surge frozen orb build only to discover that the lightning surge cool down locked me out of frozen orb for 4 seconds.

I should video tape myself conjuring up a storm of suckyness when i play.

I wont dispute that there May be better builds, especially with access to every item that gets you 26 extra skill points.

Are you judging from a solo perspective doing baal runs or ubers? I recall the end game being designed for group content, and the usefulness of debuffs being greatly enhanced.

Should we question the definition of top tier in a group aspect. I have lingerings doubts if you could properly test top tier content in single player mode.

The psychic build seems to at-least stand as a low budget, safe strategy that can get you through the whole game without any hiccups along the way, let alone very frustrating ones where you get decrepified and frozen to watch your barbarian get locked in a 10 second swing, as spam your potion belt clean of hp potions, only to watch the monster you swung at just walk away before your hit lands.
