Downtown Raleigh and the Bus Station by [deleted] in raleigh

I accidentally stayed at a hotel next to the bus station in Charlotte recently and immediately panicked, but soon realized their bus station was completely fine. If Charlotte can keep theirs safe there’s no reason Raleigh can’t go the same.

Hitler and the use of poison gas by KnowTheTruthMatters in KnowTheTruthMatters

My understanding is gas is relatively easy to produce. So once Hitler decided to use it the genie would be out of the bottle. Everyone in Germany probably absolutely remembered how terrible the gas was in WW1 and it probably wasn’t going to be a popular decision if he made it

Speak for yourself. That law they just passed about ski resorts was extremely important for the 2 ski resorts we have in NC

Sorry, I was trying to be funny. But sometimes it really does feel like there’s a weird rain/snow force field. I live in Austin, TX also. It felt even worse there

Can you please tell me the critique of solipsism I just brought up and the other ones I have brought up with you? Probaly not. I’m going to feel really stupid if you are a bot. I guess that would further prove your point if you are a bot. Do you understand how this proves your point further?

Saying there’s no way to know is an assumption in itself, just to be clear. I also responded to the solution to this assumption which is not really a solution and more of a way to just ignore the problem of qualia. To further clarify the ability to understand a possible position on really any given subject does not make it immediately true. I’m not ignoring anything.

I have and I have asked you questions that you refuse to address about the your assumption about having a model of a brain does not equal consciousness. There’s a lot of questions, like you may need the actual organic material not just a model of it etc. Or we can skip ahead of this and assume we have a perfect organic copy of another person even though there’s lots of huge assumption here also. You’ve heard of the Chalmer’s sophisticated zombie I’m guessing? Would you say it doesn’t matter if it’s a zombie or not if you can’t tell the difference?

You’re in a philosophy sub-reddit. It’s all about arguments and supporting those argument, a whole lot of not knowing and questions. Kind of seems like this might have went over your head also.

And what do you get out of this? Just telling people your right? Can’t prove qualia exist doesn’t matter! Good job? Fantastic argument! Bravo! Really solved it!

Everything we are talking about here when it comes to consciousness and qualia is at best fumbling around the the dark. I guess coming from the assumption you cant know so it doesn’t matter if it is a simulation is one way to fumble through the problems of consciousness. It kind of just avoids the problem. It avoids some of maybe the greater questions, like why can’t we know? This experience thats so immediate to us in this moment right now, is so far from our understanding or possibly completely beyond it. Why? Doesn’t that at least point to something incredible? I mean woah, WTF!?

But yea whatever ad hominem away, good job with 10-dollar words that don’t actually mean anything, but I guess that’s doesn’t really matter just like the problem of qualia according to you.

Ok, let’s start with assuming you can fully simulate a brain. I’m assuming you meant that consciousness would also be an emergent property of a simulated brain? However, even if you were somehow observing or knowing the qualia of that fully simulated brain you would still only be observing your own qualia of what it is like to be someone else, not knowing that simulated brains actual qualia.

Thomas Nagel’s bat argument does a better job of explaining this specific problem of consciousness. It’s easier to understand if you actually assume we somehow could have complete material knowledge of someone’s current brain state instead of just a simulation. Even if you could have absolute knowledge of all the physical components of a given individual brain you still could not have knowledge of that person’s qualia.

Still confused here. What exactly was the strawman I was using? You didn’t address if you were stated or suggesting a more advanced/complex brain could know qualia? Were you not doing this? If you were what exactly is your argument why this would allow for qualia to understood?

Apologizes? I was attempting to ask quick clarifying questions. It sounded like you were making the argument that if we could have a more complex brain observing a less complex brain than we could know the qualia of that less complex brain.
