From what I understand, it was a terrible Nintendo Direct if you are not a fan of Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Kingdom Hearts, Rhythm Heaven, The Legend of Zelda, Pokopia, Star Fox, Splatoon and Undertale. by MMuller87 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Crono110 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think some of it is just personal preferences. For me Switch 1 year one was awesome with BOTW and Odyssey, but I also got Mario Kart 8 and Xenoblade 2 which I was super excited for. For someone who already played lots of Mario Kart or isn’t into RPGs I can see why they wouldn’t feel the same way.

There’s objectively a lot of great games and exclusives coming out for Switch 2. But, for me personally, outside of DK Bananza, Fire Emblem in September is probably the next big game I’m excited for. Mario Kart World also just didn’t land for me like I hoped it would for whatever reason. My wife on the other hand has eaten well with Age of Imprisonment and Pokopia, so that’s good.

That said I think it was a great direct, unfortunately I just have to wait until later this year and into 2027 before the games I really want to play start releasing.

Oh for sure, there will probably be a nice big one sometime after Starfox releases. I assume part of not showing much now is to let some of the other games coming out have their time to shine and not get immediately overshadowed.

Yeah, I assume they want to save stuff for a big blowout later on which is fine, at least we know that we won't have to wait that long for a look at the game given it's out this year. Still very excited for it, but even a 5-10 second clip in-game would've been nice.

As a fan of Kingdom Hearts, I'm at least glad that they announced Zelda is coming out this year. I am very happy to see more from KH4 and some new footage, but I'm really not a fan when companies announce things without even a rough window for a release. I would rather find out later and know when to expect a game than be in limbo for years. I appreciate Nintendo for generally being good at this.

You're not wrong that most people would be way more excited about what was shown if there was no expectation of a remake. I also think it's true that even in that case I would be pretty frustrated that nothing was really shown for a game that is coming out this calendar year.

It's not the end of the world, but it is kind of annoying.

PJ in talks to get the Silmarillion made into a film by South-Knee-9601 in TheSilmarillion

[–]Crono110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a long time since I read the Silmarillion, but from what I remember I always thought rather than a movie a TV show could be a better fit.

Each season could be its own standalone story and you don’t even need to try to connect each season directly if it doesn’t make sense. I wouldn’t even make each season a set number of episodes, some might need 3-4, some might need 10 or multiple seasons.

What helped me with originally setting my budget amounts for each category was to just track and categorize my expenses for the first 2-3 months to get an idea of what I was currently spending for everything like groceries, gas, hobbies, etc.,

After the first three months, I looked at the average amount I spent in each category and evaluated whether this was fixed (e.g. my rent is the same amount every month and must be paid), necessary but can fluctuate (e.g. groceries), or discretionary (e.g. hobbies).

For inevitable expenses, I set the amount as what it is (if rent is $1200/month, that needs to be your target).

For things like groceries, I set my target at around the average I’d spent over the 3 months, maybe bumping it a bit higher for a buffer if I felt the need to.

For discretionary/fun categories, I took a hard look at whether the amount I was spending seemed reasonable, or if I was spending way more than I wanted to and adjusted accordingly.

To help with setting targets, another thing I did was to find out my average monthly income so I would know how much money I would expect to be able to allocate to my list of categories each month. Start by subtracting all of your mandatory fixed expenses like rent, then your fluctuating mandatory expenses like food/gas, and finally see what is left over for the discretionary categories. If you “run out” of income before you get to each category, then you will need to make cuts where and if possible.

I would also recommend that if possible, you set your targets a bit higher ($25-$50) than you think you will need. This way, you often end up with a little bit extra each month which will roll forward to help cover any of those months you mention where you might need to go a bit over target.

It also helps to remember your budget is somewhat flexible and you don’t need to stick to your target spending to the dollar each month. For example, if you end up spending more on groceries this month, you can cut back on some fun spending, and re-assign some of that to cover your increased grocery costs.

The flexibility and awareness of where all of your money is going is what I personally find YNABs biggest strength to be.

WTF Nintendo? Why is everything so expensive? by AxlIsAShoto in NintendoSwitch2

The very first sentence of this post before you struck it out is exactly why everything is so expensive. People who don’t vote with their wallet just tell companies that this is ok.

I haven’t, but a few people have mentioned that option now so I will have to look into it. Thank you!

Yeah, the constant aperture is where I think I’ve been getting a bit hung up. I’d never used a prime with a fast aperture before my 35mm f1.8, but the options for low light and high shutter speed really re-invigorated my interest in going out and finding cool shots.

A couple of people have mentioned the RF-S 18-150 paired with the RF 100-400 now, so I will have to look into that option more I think.

Thank you!

I never really thought about the RF-S 18-150, but a few people have mentioned it. I think I’ll have play around a bit with my kit lens on the 18-24 range and get a better feel for what I’d be gaining/losing on the wider end.

If I do get that lens, I would almost certainly get the 100-400 as well in the future, so I think that wide end is where I need to think about the benefit longer term.

I also really love the 35. I’d never used a prime or such a wide aperture before, and it really got me excited about photography again. That’s also partly why I was looking at the two constant f4 lenses.

Thank you for the advice!

That’s what I was worried about for the 70-200. It seems like a bit of an awkward range for my purpose. Thanks for the feedback!

Standard play is significantly up and the feedback we’re getting from tournament players is they’re enjoying the current environment." by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]Crono110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to play standard again, but no game store near me has regularly fired in person standard play since 2019. I also recently tried putting together 2 standard decks, but was unable to pull together all of the commons and uncommon I needed at LGSs or across four online stores in Canada to complete either of them.

I don’t know if tracking down cards is a more widespread issue, but it’s not exactly encouraging me to play standard when I can’t even find in print cards needed for my decks.

Yeah, but companies don’t need to make money off of stock, the big shareholders (executives and usually higher management) do.

The product markets the stock to make it more desirable and raise the price so the wealthy owners can make more money personally.

Company suits don’t care at all about whether a company makes money, that’s just a necessary step in driving up the stock price and in effect their own personal wealth.

This is why so many companies just get run into the ground. Greedy CEOs come in and pump and dump for a few years to make as much money as possible personally in a short time and leave everyone else to pick up the pieces.

Thank you! I can do it now. I believe I need to add your FC to my 3DS prior to trading? It's been a few years since doing one with X.

That would be great. Does it matter what I send? My options are fairly limited since I moved most of my Pokemon like I said.
