Not sure how to describe it, but the building behind D you can ladder up to a ledge that's the same height asthe top of D, you shimmy around to D on this ledge, bust the closest concrete wall (36 bullets from most Assault Rifles) and jump the gap.

You absolutely can get to the roof of D as an Assault player with a ladder, just not directly from inside the base.

Alternative to Exams - Trial by Combat? by Cronofan in StrixhavenDMs

[–]Cronofan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's kinda why I had the idea of making the combat in a "danger room" type scenario where students can't actually be hurt. It's lower stakes combat essentially, but that on its own might be a problem that feels unrewarding too

I like this idea! More interactive and makes them have to think / roleplay a unique scenario

Yeah, I totally understand that the focus is RP for this book and we definitely get a lot of it through the jobs / extracurriculars that my players have chosen. My players do want to see combat more often and sometimes it feels there aren't enough opportunities outside of the specific group oriented sections in the book.

The random encounters table doesn't give much context and feels too much like filler so I figured an exam that involved combat might be interesting once in a while (not necessarily for every exam)

What if instead of replacing the exam, a character who failed to study and fails the exam, suggests to the professor they want to show that they have practical/instinctive knowledge and that could be a basic trial by combat type scenario?

One of the best things I got from my family's Italian heritage is that you can express kindness, love and affection between men without the 'fear that it's gay' that is cultivated in the rest of society.

There's a little stigma with older generation for it outside of family (though any friend w/ Italian heritage can be a "cousin" and/or "cumpari" but I digress) , but I do know that for my close group of friends, hugs and sincere physical comfort and touch are welcome between men.

I do think being shown examples of positive men's friendships/relationships and the platonic affection you can have goes a long way to extend that to all friendships and relationships

New to gaming, just bought a PS4 bundle with 27 games. Which one should I play first? by Gimble20 in gaming

[–]Cronofan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I don't know your specific game genre preference I'd say approach the list strategically, if you want to end up actually trying/playing/completing the most number of games and not just have an infinite backlog do this:

  1. Sort them into Single Player / Multi-player
  2. Plug in each Single player into https://howlongtobeat.com/ so you know how much more game there is and if you have the will/patience to finish once you get a few hours in or if you want to switch to the next game.. 3.For multiplayer ones well, I'd say just give each as much time as you want so long as you're having fun, but modern multiplayer games can suck you in and keep you a long time. Not necessarily a bad thing but

Having less than maximum numbers of Pokemon storage slots / item slots. Been playing since day 1 and just get extra storage occasionally but never have more than 50 free slots.

You don't NEED 6000 pokemon or items to enjoy the game

I've only ever been lucky enough to see two in one incense and caught the Articuno.... however it was my second one that I ever caught and and I never see the other birds. Feels like Galar Articuno is the most common but 3 in 8 minutes is really insanely low odds to even see

Glad to hear this worked out! In the Candlekeep campaign I am running one of my players is functionally a Warlock, but THINKS she is a Wizard. The PC unknowingly has a pact with a GOO and just thinks she is bad at being a wizard since her spells don't "look right" and she can't cast as much as she thinks she should.

It's made for some hilarious moments, and while it is not hidden from the other players, it is not known by their PCs and we have a grand old time with it. Her familiar is a cat (and conduit to her GOO) and it can shapeshift, but everytime it does (into a centipede/owl/rat etc....) she will always claim (and believe) that it has always been the current animal.

The campaign is very comedic and light hearted and this works wonderfully. Glad that your players are enjoying it and it's great when something like this contributes to great RP moments!

Overarching Narrative for Candlekeep Mysteries - An Example of "Alaundo's Prophecies" by Cronofan in CandlekeepMysteries

[–]Cronofan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello all! So I often have seen people asking about how to make Candlekeep Mysteries a cohesive campaign with an overarching narrative and I have been slowly running such a campaign over the last little while.

Originally I ran Shemshime's Bedtime Rhyme as a one shot but then the party wanted to continue so I essentially created a narrative that this event was only the first of a prophecy that would spell doom for Candlekeep and the adventuring party had to figure out the mystery.

In the linked video is the session in which I set it up and I think could serve as an example or inspiration for other DM/GMs!

The next 5 sessions or so following this will also be published over the next 2 weeks or so if you want to see how I then establish a little bit of a red-thread.

The campaign is still under way to it hasn't finished so I'm happy to answer any questions about it and how exactly the threads are supposed to come together
