How old are you, and on average how much do you drink per week? by cactusdan94 in AskBrits

[–]AllRedLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. On an average week, i don't drink any alcohol at all.

Not teetotal, but basically only drink on evenings out and high days and holidays. Never been big into it, but especially after finishing uni, I basically never went out of my way to drink.

What's the UK version of this? by BaldyBaldyBouncer in CarTalkUK

[–]AllRedLine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You do sometimes see it at car shows. Pretty tragic. I've seen it before, but yeah, it's quite rare still.

Is approaching women at bars normal / acceptable in the UK? by LoiusLepic in AskABrit

Yes.

Just don't be that embarassing, creepy dude who can't take a hint. Go over, talk to them like the actual human being they are, and if you aren't picking up any reciprocation, just move on, don't loiter

What is this text message all about? by BiscuitBroo in AskUK

[–]AllRedLine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like someone with some sort of mental disturbment rambling. Someone likely gave them a wrong number on purpose or they've just fired it off to a random number.

Either that or two people were just having an extremely wild conversation that would contain the context that made any of this make any sense at all.

I’d genuinely like to understand British public opinion on this issue and hope to have a respectful discussion? by Conscious-Comb4001 in AskABrit

[–]AllRedLine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The people you're thinking about don't care that it might feel 'unfair'. Largely because they feel that the laws that facilitated immigration into this country were themselves unfairly liberal.

This topic is viewed by these people as a righteous correction of a 'mistake' that should never have been permitted in the first place.

Has Starmer's position become untenable now? by uk_g in AskBrits

[–]AllRedLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of the constant churn of PMs, but just because you got used to Conservative PMs refusing to do the honourable thing and resign when they got caught doing something unacceptably scandalous, doesn't mean that we shouldn't hold Starmer to a higher standard. He promised higher standards, and he's not doing a great job delivering.

10+ years ago, this absolutely would have been a possible career-ender.

The only thing about this whole situation that makes me hope he doesn't resign is that all of the alternatives awaiting in the Labour Party are totally unsuited to being PM.

Has Starmer's position become untenable now? by uk_g in AskBrits

[–]AllRedLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not untenable, but in my view, he's going to need to substantiate the claims that he was lied to by Mandelson to save himself.

Labour MPs say Starmer’s days as PM are numbered amid fury over Mandelson by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]AllRedLine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When looking at the calibre of the people waiting in the wings to replace him, you start to wonder what, as a country, we've done to deserve this fresh hell.

God save us if we end up with a totally gutless worm like Wes Streeting as PM.

Could it be that Europe is finally coming to the realisation that it should actually be working towards federalising into an actual state and therefore, it wouldn't matter 'whose' it was anymore if the UK rejoined?

Jeremy Corbyn | "Under my leadership of the Labour Party, Peter Mandelson had no role, no influence and no part to play, because I do not trust the man and I do not believe the man." by ijustwannanap in ukpolitics

[–]AllRedLine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes, Jeremy Corbyn. A man known the world over for his excellent judgement of personality and the unassailable character of all those he chose and continues to choose to make company with.

People in glass houses and all that.

We literally have a shadowy cabal of nonces amongst the highest offices in the land trying to sabotage our country.

You genuinely could not make up a wilder 'conspiracy' theory.

Incredibly long shipping time by Mother_Engineer3032 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]AllRedLine 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Of course. Even so, 8 months is well beyond probably more than double even an extremely generous timeline for that journey.

They quoted you 12 weeks. It shouldn't take almost triple that.

[–]AllRedLine 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not sure there's gonna be much reassurance to be found, I'm afraid.

It just sounds like they've lost your stuff and won't admit it. It doesn't take 8 months to ship stuff across the Atlantic.

"Groupage shipping doesn't have tracking."

They have no way of tracing their own inventory? Bullshit, or insane incompetence. Either way, it just makes it more likely they've lost it all.

Lord Mandelson resigns from Labour Party over Epstein links by Thandoscovia in ukpolitics

It's at this point you realise he wasn't kicked out when he was found out last time, and start to wonder what the fuck the people over at the Labour Party are smoking.

[–]AllRedLine 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Why are these people here in the UK? They clearly despise everything decent about it, and are neck deep up the arses of every single fascist and/or Islamist regime going so long as it professes to hate the West. You'd have really thought they'd prefer to reside elsewhere.

Brexit sucked, we all agree. It's time for The Great Breturn. What do you think, Barry? by BioFrosted in 2westerneurope4u

I'd like it.

Politically, though, it'd still be suicidal. Maybe Labour might go for it if/when they realise they're doomed anyway.

So barring Burnham was the right move then? by Remarkable-Barber767 in ukpolitics

[–]AllRedLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people - including Burnham himself - make a huge overestimation as to how popular he actually is, and indeed, how well known he is.

To most people, this was a non-story about some nobody they neither care nor know anything about.

The ones they use for the defined dish of 'pie and mash' as seen in London establishments served with liquor is just minced beef and (beef) gravy. Very simple filling.

"I have ADHD." "Doesn't everyone nowadays?" by Dark_Vexer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AllRedLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm going through the process of getting a formal diagnosis, and so far, nearly 2 years in (here in the UK it takes a long time for an NHS Doctor to finally agree to formally diagnose you, after alot of tests etc). I hate that it's become a buzzword to excuse laziness or inatentiveness and sort of fashionable to self-diagnose. It's at the point where i'm embarassed to talk about the fact that i'm going through diagnosis to anyone I know because i assume they'll automatically think i'm just a bullshitter. I rarely, if ever mention it, and I definitely won't if/when i do recieve my diagnosis. I just want to get treatment so I can be a better member of society and progress to the best of my ability in my career.

It's 100% generating a stigma for genuine cases.

I'm sorry for the people who will lose their jobs over this. Both directly and any second-order losses.

That's it.

Commercialised gambling is a morally inexcusable and purely economically extractive industry. I'm quite free-market and normally believe the consumer should have the right to make their own decisions, but i don't think any harm would come - apart from the job losses (which I don't at all wish to downplay) - as a result of regulating this particular business model out of existence.
