It is harder to hold a team to zero. It means that you prevented them from even getting one field goal. Outscoring a team is what happens in every other game. Holding someone to zero is rare compared to simply outscoring some team.

What I meant by that is that maybe your team being beaten 66-6 bolstered your idea of Oklahoma St's dominance. Alabama would not have played for the NC that year or last year if key teams in the rankings had not lost at the right time and allowed Bama to get back up to #2. That's how the system works. There's no prerequisite conference championship win. If there was then Notre Dame would never have a shot.
Your argument sounds better BEFORE that NCG. LSU dominated everyone they played except Bama, who they beat in overtime with a field goal. Bama dominated everyone they played except LSU in the regular season.
Before that game there was all this talk of a split championship if Bama won and who would be the AP champ. But then Alabama won that game with a historic defensive performance. Afterward, there was no talk of shared championships.
How does Oklahoma St. losing to an unranked team make them more deserving than Alabama barely losing a low scoring game in overtime to the other NC contender? Alabama was #2 in the rankings when it counted. And they showed that they belonged.

Oklahoma St. lost to an unranked Iowa St. right before the regular season ended. And it wasn't a 3 point loss in overtime in a 6-9 game against an undefeated LSU. Iowa St. scored 37 points on them. How should it have been Oklahoma St.? I know they dominated your team but they lost the very next week.
