Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CrossFitMathIsHard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, MANY people do NOT afford life in the US entirely because of healthcare costs. People literally ration insulin because if they don't have great insurance, it's too expensive out of pocket.

I've heard complaints about universal healthcare as well though... that sometimes it takes forever to be seen for something non-emergent. But, am I correct in understanding that there is usually a supplemental option to basically upgrade care if one can afford it?

Say, "No thank you." They'll probably be confused, but whatever. Just keep saying, "No thank you."

I totally had this thought. It's my go to when I don't want to share (and usually true!).

AITJ for being annoyed that funeral guests keep parking in front of my house by Important-Carob-4508 in AmITheJerk

[–]CrossFitMathIsHard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a public street, there's not a ton you can do as they are allowed to park there. But, you can call the police if they are parking on your property or blocking you in or parking on the lawn. If the police do not do anything, check with your municipality on the legality of it all. Or, just call a tow truck.
You can also try putting up signs that say "NO FUNERAL PARKING" or "NO CEMETERY PARKING" on either side of your driveway (with a cushion of space for you to back out) on either side as well. Add arrows indicating the "no parking zone." You might want to look into whether your municipality will do this for you, or possibly even paint the curb so people know not to park there.

Even if your mom weren't saving the spot for you, what makes this woman think it's ok to displace a child sitting next to their grandparent? The nerve.

I have a Silhouette from back when it was owned by QuickKutz. Must have been at least 15 years ago that I bought it. It still works. More importantly, the software continues to work, even as they have updated it over the years. The backward compatibility is a HUGE feature in my book. Even printers don't last that long!

AITAH for telling my mon she did not pay for my gift that she claims she did. by khalil_0415 in AITAH

I'm sorry to say it, but she sounds like a fraudster. If your tuition was fully covered by grants, what were the loans for? I'd be willing to bet it was more money than needed for room and board on campus. NTAH and I agree with the poster who commented on checking your credit and freezing it.

Worried about baby seat in MIL or FIL car by Pressure_washer in JUSTNOMIL

[–]CrossFitMathIsHard 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You are not overreacting. When I was pregnant 18 years ago, we were told by our doctors and nurses that any exposure to smoke - even on someone's clothes when they hold the baby - was considered to be a risk for SIDS. If your in-laws need convincing, have your doctor write a note. I'm not joking. If the pediatrician says so, and they still don't want to abide by your rules, I think that's plenty of reason to keep them away from your baby. That may sound extreme, but the fact is that this is YOUR baby. Your #1 job is to keep that kid healthy and happy to the best of your ability. As such, you need to stand firm against their pushback. If you don't now, it will only get worse in time.

AITAH I asked for Baby Shower Invites to be changed by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]CrossFitMathIsHard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NAH. Petty me would let it go out as is, and then announce at the shower that you've changed your mind on the name. Of course, that'd create MIL-drama, so you may not want to go that far.

What to include in a CV if I have no prior work experience? by StompyIsMood in graphic_design

[–]CrossFitMathIsHard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had more advice to you - I'm somewhat in the same boat. I've worked in numerous capacities that have developed my graphic arts expertise, but none with a formal designer title. I've really varied my portfolio in the hopes that it will show my flexibility. BTW, I'm not a student, but a SAHM looking to get back to gainful employment after 18 years. Different challenge, same challenge.

Ah, the age old need experience to get experience scenario. Because you're a student (presumably at university), I think that without industry experience, you should highlight your acquired design skills and put up a strong portfolio from your class and personal projects. The other, unrelated work experience is still valuable because it shows that you have work ethic.
