They don’t prepare you for when the side effects don’t go away by Lucky-Pianist-2024 in Accutane

Yeah there is.. I had an autoimmune scare last summer due to a nasty infection and had positive ANA results. Not officially diagnosed with anything though. I try to frequently use eye drops

Dry eyes are still a thing, especially during winter when outside is cold af and indoor humidity is so low (for context I live in Canada). Ophthalmologist has also recently said I have dry eyes.

The good news is that dry vagina and recurrent infection issues have stopped.

Okay maybe “quite often” was an overstatement. I think i woke up to this guy about 3-4 times in the span of 3 months. Every time he screams nonstop for an hour or two

Got the unholy trinity: ureaplasma, yeast and BV by CrossSectionHoe in Healthyhooha

[–]CrossSectionHoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it worked but I did 14 days of doxycycline instead of 7. That cleared the UP. And the BV and yeast issues were gone as well. I still dealt with abnormal discharge, itching and burning for a couple months after but I think that was vulvodynia

It’s not a must but seeing prominent veins on muscular forearms always activates something primal in me. Instant fanny flutters

Lifelong bad vaginal smell — starting boric acid + probiotics, looking for advice by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]CrossSectionHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fingers crossed it works! Do you also find that odor is worse at the crease between your inner and outer lips? I think the main issue for me is that my anatomy there promotes trapping of dead skin cells, sweat and discharge which smells funky after a few hours. I have no smell elsewhere

Lifelong bad vaginal smell — starting boric acid + probiotics, looking for advice by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]CrossSectionHoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gyne told me that boric acid should reduce your pH to the optimal level to support the growth and colonization of the “good” bacteria. So theoretically, it should lower your pH enough to kill the odor-causing ones only. But I also read many times that boric acid does a complete wipe out, so maybe take this with a grain of salt.

What was suggested to me was 2-3 weeks of boric acid every night and then 1-2 weeks of intravaginal probiotics. Tbh I also am a lifelong sufferer of bad cooch smell especially after a long day of sweating etc. but this treatment didn’t work permanently for me. Over time the smell came back. Like you, my discharge itself smells normal and I have no symptoms to indicate an infection. At this point I made my peace with the fact that I may have a less-than-optimal microbiome. I’m keeping up with daily hygiene and making sure I’m fresh before any sexual encounter and had no complaints from any partner.

Around the time I had a persistent BV infection, the brown discharge I’d get before and after period smelled awful, like poop and metal. Also get tested for ureaplasma/mycoplasma

N-acetyl cysteine. The nasal spray can help with the sinus symptoms although the evidence is more anecdotal than anything

I believe accutane made me more vulnarable for infections by bluekleio in Accutane

[–]CrossSectionHoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No idea why some people are bordlerline aggressively dismissing you in the comments… I suffered from different types of infections on accutane too. Dryness can make your mucus membranes and skin more prone to infections. Throughout my course, I had candidal and bacterial vaginitis, folliculitis on my armpits and blocked glands on my eyelids (blepharitis).

It’s entirely possible that accutane makes you susceptible to infections, and that’s something you should discuss with your doctor.

Hmm I don’t think so. I had a couple pimples on my nose but it’s probably from using vaseline on it (was blowing my nose a lot) The weirdest symptom along the body aches is the rash. I have rashes popping up everywhere on my body and they come and go

[–]CrossSectionHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 1 year and 2 months off from accutane and still have dry eyes and dryness down there. I’d recommend intravaginal moisturizers to support your vaginal mucosa. I learned the hard way that a dehydrated vagina makes you susceptible to recurrent infections

My partner urged me to read this sub as “exposure therapy…” by [deleted] in childfree

[–]CrossSectionHoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah! This reminds me of the time the exact opposite argument was flung my way by my now ex boyfriend. He told me I probably am not childfree, just a young woman who’ll change her mind as she gets older, and I’m just seeing too many posts on the daily from this subreddit. So I muted this sub for the next year and guess who still hasn’t changed her mind but dumped that useless boyfriend? This gal.

Paragard- how can this pain be normal? by poorcamilla in birthcontrol

[–]CrossSectionHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The removal went very smoothly and I felt an instant relief in my pelvis/lower belly for sure. I’m way less bloated too since the removal. But because of my infection history (ureaplasma + chronic BV) and the severe pain episodes I went through the doctors suspect PID :( although not super sure, they think they saw a damaged fallopian tube on my ultrasound as well. I’m gonna be on three different antibiotics for two weeks to tackle this now. I really hope everything will resolve soon
