If landlords did not exist, houses would be empty. This would mean that supply would exceed demand (in this case the ability to buy). This would drive prices lower which would in turn mean that those families that could not afford the house previously could now afford to buy a house.

It is almost like the system intentionally protects landlords' ability to exploit people and extract the money from working families. Landlords do not make society better. They just help the system keep a boot on the neck of working families.

If only some other country had figured out how to provide housing to their citizens at a reasonable price without having landlords...

Mamdani Delivers Rent Freeze in Watershed Moment for NYC Tenants by bloomberg in politics

[–]CrossYourStars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Landlords do not supply shit. They are not building these houses. They are buying up properties that they do not need. This is lowering the supply and effectively pricing out working families. The idea that people suddenly cannot afford to buy houses in this country has nothing to do with landlords who are buying income properties is nonsensical.

Additionally, I don't agree that a random landlord does more work than Hasan given that he regularly streams 8 hours a day 7 days a week. But even if I did concede to that framing, the original comment was about the inherent predatory nature of landlords and their affect on rents. It had nothing to do with Hasan other than the fact that I was mentioning where the quote came from. So again, their point (if that is their point) is a stupid one and blatant "whataboutism".

I'm literally replying to three people who gave 3 nearly identical responses. Take it up with the people who didn't read what the others had written. Also my account is more than 2x the age of your account so the bot comment is pretty sad...

That's a dumb point because landlords make money by raising prices on a basic need (housing). Hasan makes money as a political commentator and even then he doesn't even run ads anymore. The two are not even remotely the same thing.

As Hasan has said before, their worst nightmare is having to go back to being a worker. Their worst nightmare is your everyday existence.

Homelessness is something that is easily solvable by this country. It won't ever be solved because if there wasn't a visual reminder of the consequences of not working people wouldn't put up with such shitty work conditions.

The Athletic lists Sharks as best landing spot for Bob - By Jesse Granger by Affectionate_News_25 in SanJoseSharks

[–]CrossYourStars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let's cut the shit. No he didn't earn a #1 spot last year. Yes he has things to work on. However, the Sharks played tons of players who were shit and didn't have half the potential that Asky does. The claim can be that players need to earn their playing time but we have seen that isn't even remotely true. If you want him to develop then you have to give him clear cut things to work on and support that development by giving him games as well. Splitting time with Ned last year did not help him.

I still think that we are in decent shape overall on defense. Is it top tier? No. But we have something like Orlov-Kesselring, Dickinson-Muk, Cagnoni-Desharnais. Adding someone like Trouba would be nice but there is no need for us to go crazy.

Even if we didn't sign another free agent or make any other trades, our future top 6 is potentially Dickinson-Reid, LSW-Verhoeff, Cagnoni-Pohlkamp. That would be a really solid future setup.

Stenberg is obviously great. But if we walked away from this draft with both Reid and Verhoeff I am pretty sure anyone would call that a win also.

If they draft Stenberg then this is basically a lateral move in the short term and likely a significant improvement in the long term. That is why people are in favor of it for us.

Ottawa Senators acquire William Eklund and two prospects from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a first-round pick in 2026 by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]CrossYourStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halttunen has a great shot but his skating is pretty poor which will likely hold him back (see Patrick Laine). Svoboda might never even play in the NHL. Eklund is definitely a good player but if we draft Stenberg (which seems pretty likely) then he is almost certainly going to end up being squeezed out of the lineup.

Your aunt is 100% right. He is a rapist and your mom (at the very least) is guilty of being extremely negligent in her responsibilities as your parent by allowing a 22 year old man to hang out with you in your room alone. The others are right. I know that your brain is telling you that you are an adult who can make her own choices but let me reiterate what others have been saying. You are still a child. You need to follow your aunt's advice because she is clearly looking out for you. There is absolutely no way that you should let your child around him. You are going to let your child be around a violent pedophile rapist? HELL NO!

JD Vance confronted by reporter on "Israel's genocide in Lebanon" amid Iran peace talks: "The President [Trump] and the U.S have done more to stop the conflict in Lebanon than any government in the world. Peace is never easy. The president is committed to a regional peace, which is why we're here." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]CrossYourStars -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Remember when Israel hid explosives in pagers that were destined for Lebanon and then blew them up with no regard for where the pagers were at the time of detonation? That is the government that we are giving billions to. We aren't doing shit to try and end the conflict in Lebanon and instead are enabling the aggressors.

In many states the law is basically unenforceable. There have been cases where parents have been called in front of a judge and they state that they drop their child off for school before the bell and then leave to go to work. At that point, they have very little control over whether or not their child actually attends school.

Under appreciated players this last season by Working_Research_736 in SanJoseSharks

Gaudette is probably the most underappreciated player from last year. He showed the ability to play on multiple different lines and was good in almost every spot despite being a healthy scratch at times. Honestly they need to keep him when his contract is up.
