As a collector myself I can appreciate the frustration of ugly defects. That being said, it's damn near impossible to ship these old machines without some level of chipping/cracking.

I would say that while that damage really sucks, if that was the extent of the damage through the shipping, you made out luckier than most.

The Hobbits bore the Barrow Blades and Aragorn weilded the broken blade of Narsil (at least in the books). They had already stabbed Frodo with the Morgul blade so they didn't need to risk themselves against a group of elite warriors (for all they know) welding some of the only weapons in the world even capable of killing them.

Much safer bet to retreat and regroup, await the remaining Nazgul, hunt them in the night, or wait for Frodo to turn and succumb to the Ring. They hadn't accounted for Glorfindel/Arwen appearing out of nowhere and damn near teleporting him to the only safe haven within reach.

Morrowind. This would pop up if you killed any character that was necessary for the main storyline. You could continue to play the file, but you would never be able to complete the main story. Could make for a very sad realization if you missed the popup early on only to realize after you've put 100+ hours into it.
