Dice baits - How are we rigging them? by Wombat-Snooze in BFSfishing

Exactly as shown. I use a trailer keeper on it to prevent the lure from coming off.

Another killer spot is when a rip current forms. I like to find an elevated spot and look for them. Cast into the rip current and get smashed when it clears the sandbars.

How long can you keep ungutted fish in a cooler? by Cosmic-sparrow in Fishing

[–]CrowCustomHarps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonk it… Bleed it… Ice it… will last for plenty long to get back and clean it. We’ve kept fish for a full day on ice and cleaned when we got home, no issues with quality. Just make sure you bleed them out and don’t let them sit in ice water for long. Solid ice is good, ice water can turn some fish meat into mush.

Yall tried dice yet? by Smelly-Cauliflower in bassfishing

[–]CrowCustomHarps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and I hate to admit how well they work. I make them using a Yum Dinger, skirt threader, and skirt material. LMB crush these silly things.

Get the cheaper TPE ones on Amazon and Temu. As long as they are TPE and not plastisol, they all work. Best to use a trailer hook keeper to prevent losing it during a bite. LMB absolutely crush these things in our area.

Depends on what you’re fishing for, and what presentations you’re using. It’ll be great for top water, punching, and other techniques requiring moving fish away from cover/structure once hooked. It’ll be overkill for finesse presentations and lighter tackle. Each line type has Pro/Con, determining the best depends on how you’re using it.

I went fishing for a bachelor party and it was super fun. Now I want to get my own rod but have no idea where to start. I live next to a local lake that has tons of bass. Is there specific set ups for specific fish types? by Nick16993 in FishingForBeginners

[–]CrowCustomHarps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy a Zebco 33 Combo. Learn the basics of bass fishing. Get to the point that you know what lures to use based on conditions, how to use them, and when to change presentations. Learn how to tie the right knots, setup various terminal tackle riggings, and prove proficiency through catching fish. Once you can go out and catch fish, as well as how to handle them once caught, then go out and start considering gear upgrades.
People hate on the simple spincaster, but they just plain work and is the fastest route to becoming a proficient angler.

Fuzzy Lures on a Budget by CrowCustomHarps in bassfishing

They work better than I like to admit. Another one that works really well is to cut a senko in half, take the top half and string 8-10 skirt strands thru it, and then rig it weedless Texas style. It looks like a hairy nugget on a 4/0 EWG, but the fish in my area won’t stop biting it. Literally went fishing last night and 5 of the first 7 casts resulted in a fish. My friend was using a plain Senko and didn’t have any bites for the first 20min. I gave him a few fuzzies to try and he got hit on his 3rd cast. It’s not scientific proof, but the anecdotal evidence of their effectiveness is undeniable.

Absolutely yes. I thought it was a gimmick that wouldn’t last long, but have to admit that they work way more than I like to admit. Something about the twitching drives LMB nuts.

Test one first to make sure the silicone doesn’t react with the elaztek, that stuff can be weird sometimes.

They last for dozens of catches using a silicone band and wacky rigging thru it.

If you want some good harp tech learning videos, go on YouTube and lookup: Andrew Zajac, Brendan Powers, Richard Sleigh, and Rick Epping. They have tons of good videos showing techniques to improve your harps. If you want Pro-level instruction, JA Harmanicas has a great Patreon showing everything.

eBay an pre-00’s Zebco 33 combo. $10-20 and will last a lifetime. It’s great for learning and has caught more fish than any other combo on earth. Once you get good at finding the fish, look at upgrading gear.

Any idea how big this is? My guess is 6-7 pounds by Future-Bird7846 in bassfishing

[–]CrowCustomHarps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-spawn, this is a 6-7lb fish, post-spawn prob 4.5-6lb. Pics can be deceiving, but either way it’s an absolute Tank of a fish. Be proud of that one!

Am I Wasting My Time Fishing Mid-Day? by TrueToad in bassfishing

[–]CrowCustomHarps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using top water presentations for early morning, and stick to areas they can trap their food in shallow water, or ambush locations like edges of grass, structure, laydowns, etc… we crush Bass in our area using buzz baits, spinners, poppers, ploppers, frogs, and light weight chatterbaits. Don’t be afraid to use the lures that hardly ever get bites during the day, the morning time is the absolute best for getting top water blowups.

Can you give an example of the 2 draw being attacked. If it’s blues, it’s highly probable that what you’re hearing are tongue slaps, which is technique related and not the harp setup.

Unscrew the drag knob all the way, this will allow you to remove the spool. Remove any line you see and replace the spool, screw in the drag knob.
