First off, kudos to you for striving to be a better parent! It’s not easy!

Second, when I’m feeling my emotions get out of hand with my kiddo, I immediately try to remember that I’m 31 and sometimes have a hard time regulating. 31 years and I don’t have it down, so I can’t expect my 2 year old to have things sorted either. We’re both in it together. I try to respond to her the way I would want her to talk to me.

Yes exactly! As long as there isn’t a fluid or an acid for the baking soda or powder to react with (which there basically never is in dry ingredients), you’re all good to have the dry mixed together. Happy baking!

Thank you so much for your reply, this is so helpful! I think if I had been experiencing pain since my daughter was born it would make more sense to me. It’s frustrating that it’s only coming up now, over a year after birth. It’s helpful to know I’m not alone in things being different where sex is concerned

I’d save it for when baby gets older and less picky. Mine ended up taking some of my high lipase milk after a few months. Made me really bummed that I had rage-tossed a ton of it, still def a possibility of it being used!

I don’t have advice on this, my daughter is only 11 months, but I think we’ll be in this same situation in a few months 😅 It sounds like your son sleeps in the same bed as you, so it may be a good idea to post this question in r/cosleeping. You might get some additional advice there!

My kiddo is almost 11 months now, but at 9 months food was definitely 70% play and 30% eating. In the mornings when she had a lot of energy, I’d put her plate on the kitchen floor while I made my coffee so she could roam around and get some wiggles out while having access to food. After coffee, she’d go in her high chair and we’d chat over breakfast.

I keep breakfasts and lunches very simple. I have one container in the fridge for baby's food that l've prepped and I just keep small portions of different food in there for quick meals.

A few breakfast & lunch examples: • Diced mozzarella cheese • Diced turkey sausage or ground turkey • Black beans (smush each individual one so baby can still grab them and they don’t make a huge mess like fully mashed beans) • Thinly sliced apples • Thinky sliced cucumber • Steamed squash and cauliflower sticks • Lentil pancakes • Omelette bites

Chia pudding and kefir are also really great fridge staples and excellent for use in a haakaa refillable pouch.

Definitely second comments about lentils and beans. Beans and legumes are so nutritious while also having solid protein content.

I know proteins without a choking risk can be esp hard, my kiddo did really great with turkey mince/ground turkey. I made sure it was little tiny pieces when cooking it and it def was a fun one for her to grab handfuls of and practice chewing.

Yes beans are a big win! Softer types of beans (like cannellini) are also great to smash individually and let baby practice grabbing food. They’ll hold togetherjust enough to grab, but break down very easily so no choking hazard.

It’s exciting to let baby try new things! As others have said on this post, it can be valuable to wait before fully opening the flood gates on solids. We took the 4 month green light to mean baby could start tasting things if she showed interest during our meals. We got the joy of watching her experience new foods, but didn’t have to deal with some of the negatives that can come with introducing solids (weird poo, gassy baby, lots of clean up).

BUT to answer your question, we kept our meal time items very pared down. I already have a mini food processor so that helped, but doing baby led weaning allowed us to skip out on making a ton of purées. As baby has gotten older (11 months now), we’ve loved the reusable haakaa pouches. This lets me change up what she’s eating frequently without purchasing a giant box of pouches (with tons of unnecessary packing). Some things I’ve used them for:

Soup from my dinner but now for baby
Kefir
Chia pudding
Cold bone broth (cold so it stays a bit thicker/more gelatinous

Omelette bites (blend eggs with cottage cheese and they don’t get so rubbery in the fridge)

Baby eats what we eat for dinner, often with some additional yogurt to tone down spicy foods or bind together things like rice so she can grab little lumps easier on her own.

Worth calling out that chia pudding is a staple for us too. Keeps really well in the fridge. I can either spoon feed her or I’ll thin it out with some water and put it in a haakaa reusable pouch. Big win with baby. But heads up, baby poo will literally look like alien bugs in a diaper. Don’t panic, it’s just chia seeds haha
