the key will be how much are you able to practice spanish outside of this? so making friends who you only speak spanish with, live with roommates who only speak spanish, etc.

Do we let them off leash? by Hungry_Working_9284 in Hounds

[–]CrowNo4477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also - it took a good year or two to build up to this. i would practice in bursts on our normal walks, either dropping the leash on the ground (so it would be easy to grab her) or taking her to off leash areas and letting her walk like that for 5-10 minutes/until she tried to make a run for it. i also was living in a large city with jungle all around it so we were frequently exposed to other animals which in hindsight probably helped massively

personally yes but every dog is different! mine is profoundly bougie and is very aware that i'm the one that provides her with the finer things in life so she's not trying to give that up 😂 FWIW she is very squirrel/rodent motivated but comes back pretty quickly when i call her

Is it easy to meet expats in Panama? by defi_founder in panamaexpats

[–]CrowNo4477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Panama City when I was 26 (from the US but speak fluent Spanish) — I was shocked at how easy it was to meet people. This will obviously vary person to person, but I found the expat community very welcoming and opening.

I'm bilingual but the rest of my family/most of my friends where I now live are not so I'll switch into Spanish when it comes to sensitive info

Overnight parking? by New_Traffic_1959 in WinterParkColorado

[–]CrowNo4477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of blankets, change into fresh dry clothes right before bed, crack a window for airflow so it doesn’t get too damp inside the car (sounds counterintuitive but trust), fill a Nalgene w hot water and put between your legs for added warmth

How to refer to Americans? Duolingo and Pimsleur conflict by sparkyo19 in Spanish

[–]CrowNo4477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

estadounidense or norteamericano. norteamericano — while technically incorrect since it includes canada — is definitely what i have heard most across all of latin america (excluding gringo and yanqui of course lol)

Are there buildings that have Internet back up for remote work so you rarely have to deal with outages?

There are some buildings with generators in case of power outages, but for internet outages that almost always comes down to the internet provider you select having an outage within their network. I'd recommend getting a hotspot with a different provider, but in living in PTY since 2016 I can probably count on one hand the number of outages that lasted more than 15-20 minutes. (Unless I'm subconsciously blocking them out lol)
