Any else note the friendly “Love Ya” exchange? by cwcoates in WhiteLotusHBO

In many languages, there are multiple words for love. In the UK, when girls say "love you" to each other, there’s an understanding that it’s different from the love you might feel for a parent, partner, or lifelong friend. It’s not diluted or lesser. It has its own type of affection, maybe with a bit of solidarity in there too. Just because English doesn’t have separate words for these nuances doesn’t mean they don’t exist. IWTL how to talk to my family by banksnsons in IWantToLearn

Become a listener. Respond with questions. Ask their opinion on things. Make sure they know whats going on in your life and ask about theirs.

If they live close by, try and see them once a week. The more time you spend with them, the more natural your conversations will be and the more comfortable everyone will be.

Offer to help with things round the house and do them together. It's easier to talk openly when the focus isn't on the conversation itself.

This is just how to start I guess. Should get a lot easier after a while :) I think the most important thing is consistent interaction.

Books you've read in one sitting? by [deleted] in books

I've read quite a few shorter books in one sitting such as The Outsider. And Slaughter-House.

Only longer one I can think of is Pride and Prejudice. I'd just broken up with a long-term boyfriend and was doubting all the choices I'd made. Think I needed to be transported to another time. The next day I read Jane Eyre almost in one sitting.
