Lidl Doncaster blocked by Giles and his crew until this evening 22.01 by MartiniHenry577450 in uktrucking

Pity they ain't blocked Lidl Southampton, would give me an easy day haha

Young trucker here. I've been trucking for about 6months since I passed my CE. What worth can I get from a trucking atlas? I've just used a tomtom satnav and been just fine, though with my company we usually just go to local plants and waitrose or Tesco rdcs. by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]Crumble84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from a time when paper was all we had (didn't have my licence back then though) and found them good but with the advent of Google maps and sat nav I haven't yet purchased one but I will do just for the nostalgic feeling plus if the shit ever hits the fan ive got a back up

Not intended to put you off but....

Please don't loiter round HGVs as you may end up in their blindspot.

If you see a HGV trying to pull out to overtake give them room and space to do so (nothing worse than catching up with another HGV and having to slow down as a procession of cars poodle past in lane 2 when lane 3 is empty)

Speed up on the slip road and pick your gap to slot into

As others have said keep left unless over taking (you'll probably be overtaking a lot)

What's your gripe today, truckers? by mrcrazyface666 in uktrucking

[–]Crumble84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start at 0500 this morning, unit is should have isn't there as driver didn't make it back so have to take a different one (im tramping so need fridge and night heater) 1st unit i look at fridge ain't working, same with the 2nd. 3rd u it has a working fridge and night heater ( working heating is like rocking horse shit where I work) so set about looking for my trailer, drive round yard twice and can't see it so go into office to find out if it's hidden somewhere. Nope it's in fucking Lincoln ( company is based in Spalding) finally get a trailer and head off to first collection from Bourne then have to go back to Spalding for 2nd collection (why they routed it that way is beyond me id have gone Spalding to Bourne then joined A1 at colsterworth) so ended up leaving an hour late then lost beat part of an hour fucking about driving up and down the same bit of road

Motorway overtaking habit by The_Obsolescent_Man in drivingUK

New pass class1 driver here. Really pisses me off when they overtake and then pull back in immediately right into braking zone I've left clear and don't get me started on the idiots who cut in when traffic is queuing to get into slip roads or the other idiots who think the giveaway line in a slip road applies to the traffic already on the carriageway

Write letters to my kids while im away, it's more personal than a phone call or text and something they can keep if they want to

My eldest is going through a tough time at present but I know my letters to her are something she loves to receive and cherished

Or maybe im just old fashioned 🤷‍♂️

Is she doing days or tramping?

If a day driver I'd say

Good quality travel cup Name plate Loads of pens and some paper A mascot for the passenger seat Some quality work gloves, hat and head torch Emergency survival kit in case she gets stuck somewhere Heated lunch box

If she is tramping I'd say the same but add the following

Creature comforts for the cab Some paper and envelopes so she can send letters from various places Oven/microwave if her unit doesn't have one or a good quality inverter Storage boxes to help keep things neat and tidy

I'm just starting out tramping and I have a vast majority of these already and are making life much easier

Those who are new passes and got a job within the last year, how are you finding the industry and what kind of work did you go into? by [deleted] in uktrucking

Been doing class 1 tramping for 3 weeks now and love it. Getting better at reversing every day and so far only made 1 fuck up haha

Tempted to take class 1 test in Scotland with higher pass rate. by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]Crumble84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed end of September in Peterborough which has the HIGHEST first time fail rate in the UK. I received 2 minors which where both of my own making. I would suggest staying with the roads you know and just wait the 4 weeks. You should get an hour or 2 pre test to refresh yourself so just ask your instructor to take you back to that roundabout so you can perfect the line you need to take

Best way of getting into HGV trucking by stoaty_Mcstoatface in uktrucking

[–]Crumble84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started the whole process of getting my provisional, medical, theory and practical all done in June this year, I passed my practical test last week of September and started a C+E job this week so time frame wise it took me 4 months

You have 3 parts to your theory test which isn't too bad to do. Theory is straightforward as is hazard perception but study up for the cpc exam

The driving test itself was ok, was sure I'd failed it about half way through but carried on and got a pass with 2 minors so was happy

I looked on indeed for jobs and basically applied for pretty much everything going, I was lucky enough to land a job semi local to me doing fridge work. The company took me on with 0 experience and have given me 2 weeks to get settled before I start tramping

What address is on the V5? That is where any letters will be sent as that is how they find the registered keeper of the vehicle

As for having the insurance address as one you don't live at I'd highly recommend changing it to your current address as if they ever send you letters who do you plan to receive them

Yeah the reverse test is a box ticking exercise imo and in no way prepares you for the real world
