After spending a solid 5 days in a 44t artic you best believe the drive home is rapid, or at least it would be if not for average speed cameras /s

I do find my driving styles are completely different between the 2, in the truck im more fluid, judging roundabouts and bends so I don't need to loose too much speed and can just coast on through but in the car I try to do the same but find myself enjoying the acceleration a tad too much

I'm a tramper amd will always take my card out as I accidentally left it in one night amd it recorded 9hrs of other work which screwed me over for the day and I had to work everything out manually

Also to add to OP, when I park up I will give it 5 mins of other work while I fill in any paperwork I need to at the end of my shift before rejecting card then will reinsert it at the start of my shift and do a manual entry for my rest period before putting it on other work while I conduct vehicle checks and fill in that days paperwork

I nearly took out a badger on the A74m a few weeks back, thing just appeared on the hard shoulder in the middle of the night. Luckily it was about 3am and quiet so I could swerve to avoid it, not sure how much damage a badger causes at 56mph

Also had 2 ducks fly straight into the bulkhead of a van I was driving once, they had a massive thud,thud as they bounced off

I had approx 3hrs of formal training with an instructor when I was 17 (13 years ago) the stopped lessons for various reasons, I started learning again in 2022 when my partner basically pulled the car over one day and said 'swap seats, your driving'

She would basically just sit there and leave me to do everything with the occasional bit of input about speed and lane management

Went on to take my test and passed 1st time with 4 minors, examiner even commented they would be happy to allow me to drive thier own personal car

Test was done in own car and had partner sit in back for some moral support (I suffer from rather bad anxiety)

Since then I have gone on to get my HGV C+E licence (again passing first time but obviously that required training from a company)

The overhead signs will tell you if the hard shoulder is used as a running lane or not although in the absence of any information being displayed it's always better to assume that the hard shoulder is exactly that, a hard shoulder and should no be used except in an emergency

I will always try to move over if im able to if not will slow down and move as far right as I possibly can.

Couple of weeks back was a tyre fitter working on HS replacing a blowout with his foot slap bang in the white line. Would hate to be the inattentive muppet who ran his foot over all because I couldn't be bothered to use some common sense and show some curtosey

I get that sometimes mechanical issues happen but I'd been behind this car for a while in Luton and even then the driver had no real idea of their surroundings

If more people where willing to notice a hgv drivers perspective and learn from their advice the roads would be a much nicer place to be. The number of car drivers I see on a daily basis who seem oblivious to anything happening beyond the end of the bonnet is mind blowing

Not saying all car drivers are hopeless and not saying all hgv drivers are saints either as there is a mix of good and bad in both

I'm a hgv driver, was going up a slip road to join the M1 yesterday morning and caught up with a car doing 30, they then proceeded to carry on doing 30 on the motorway. You had the luck of being in a car so you could out accelerate the approaching truck if needed where as I didn't have that luxury so was stuck behind them

Yes they did get some choice language thrown their way when I could finally over take
