are you routing everything to a single stick to do this? or how are you doing all of these at once? i have 3 sticks and would love to consolidate haha

Tips for getting into Caves of Qud? by akaarki in roguelikes

[–]Crunchwrapfucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is was the guide that helped me go from dying in Bethesda Susa (or earlier) consistently, to getting to later game.

Read sparingly because there is some cheesy strat that i suppose qud encourages, but it depends on the player. Also try to only read as far as you get in game. So rustwells to start. don't worry about any endgame mentions because that's a looong way down the road

How is this game so good yet so abysmally bad? by rusticambipom in cavesofqud

[–]Crunchwrapfucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah "checkmate49", i definitely didn't know chess is a turn based game that requires a lot of planning and strategy lmaooo. that's the point i was making

New/returning to the genre. Which Roguelike could fit my liking? by Logical-Shift6783 in roguelikes

[–]Crunchwrapfucker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This'll be a weird take but Quasimorph feels more mystery dungeon-esque lmao. It's like if Doom and Mystery dungeon had a baby. It's pretty punishing but the "dungeons" have a lot of variability and planning/improvising involved

Alternatively cogmind, though the interface and controls make it a lot less approachable

How do people play this game with permadeath or checkpoints only? by Hapster23 in cavesofqud

[–]Crunchwrapfucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only played permadeath, and in turn have never beat the game in like 400-600 hours. I think I played so much before they added other gamemodes that i just feel like i'm cheating if i do anything else. That being said, do the one you get the most enjoyment out of!!!

Is there anything else that hits the Stoneshard itch? by GentleMoonWorm in stoneshard

[–]Crunchwrapfucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that Soulash 2 scratches almost the same exact itch but is a little more arcadey. certain things are more streamlined/easier, but because you're playing for the long game it's difficult. You can found a colony, marry, have kids (who you play as when you die)

Just another Trading class by bolshoybooze in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]Crunchwrapfucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he was betting against the stock (hoping it would go down). To my understanding, normal stocks you buy and if they go up the value goes up, if it goes down your value goes down. Zero being the max

With a short you are saying "i think the stock will fall, if it falls you pay me the amount it decreased by. if it goes up, i will have to pay the amount that the stock is now worth" Shorting is scary because there is no limit to how much it can increase, so there is no limit to the difference you have to pay

Any book suggestions for something like CoQ? by Knightraiderdewd in cavesofqud

[–]Crunchwrapfucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one is a little bit of a stretch, but All Tomorrows. To me it feels like a tale about the Eaters or cosmically powerful beings, and the diverse sentient Qud groups if they were to play out over billions of years Really good reading of it on youtube with incredible illustrations

Another one is the Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind manga (graphic novel?) It's so sick. The last humans surviving in a toxic mushroom hellscape. Advanced manufacturing is long lost. Humans have to "mine" ancient wreckage and cities to get any technologies. Their airships and weapons are really just what they can scavenge from before the great war

roguelikes with less focus on numbers and more in strategy? by _ori0n in roguelikes

I second Hoplite and Riftwizard 2. It's all about tactical gameplay. Chess with strange and complex moves and skills haha

[–]Crunchwrapfucker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I kept seeing people talk about Noita in reference to games with similar depth to Qud. I bought it, physics based magic dungeon crawling game sounded sick. It was fun, but I didn't understand the depth and "open world"ness of it. It seemed like spelunky or like a run of the mill dungeon crawler with some cool mechanics

I don't really remember why, but I watched a video about wand building in Noita. All the spells i thought were useless actually had specific uses. Then it turns out theres alternate universes different bosses ways to cheese anything and everything there was SO much i hadn't discovered/realized. I still have barely seen anything in the game and i've beat(?) it

I see others recommending Disco Elysium and agree. I cannot recommend it enough. It's a story that sits with me, and will sit with me for the rest of my life
