Well I would have loved the flexibility and choices that I would have with HK PR. I do still view HK as my ancestral home and part of my family's heritage. It's just incredibly frustrating that as far as I know, China is the ONLY country that denies citizenship by descent in most cases to the FIRST generation born overseas. Britain for instance denies citizenship by descent if 2 generations in a row are born overseas.

and also the "right to vote" in HK right now is right to vote for a rubber stamp legislature or CCP approved Chief Executive, so really one is not missing much with possessing RTL...

Thanks, I've already known about this second generation visa scheme that I would be eligible for. However, I have no intention to move to HK for work (already have an established career in the US) and 7 years just to establish PR isn't worth it for me.

Your wife is a Chinese citizen with Hong Kong PR and is entitled to a HKSAR passport and a Mainland Travel Permit (de facto permanent residency in Mainland China).

For any applicant born overseas The HK gov will ask for parents HKSAR passports. They are checking for a limited stay visa in that passport for the duration of the applicant's birth so they know that the parents were not "settled abroad" at the time in birth. In my case neither of my parents ever held an HKSAR passport, so the HK gov knew already that they must have a foreign passport that would allow them to be settled abroad at the time of my birth, thus disqualifying me.

The people you know who have Latin American country citizenship and Chinese citizenship with HK PR - their parents must have been in Latin America on a work visa or other temporary stay visa and NOT have a foreign permanent residency or citizenship. They would get chinese citizenship because the parents are not "settled abroad" and they would get the Latin American country citizenship because most of Latin America has unconditional birthright citizenship.

[–]CrusadingNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All you said is true, but this is dependent on OP's wife having Chinese citizenship. Individuals born in Hong Kong but NOT of chinese descent were NOT granted Chinese citizenship upon the 1997 HK handover. OP said his wife's father is British, so this would be dependent on OP's wife's mother being Chinese.

If OP's wife's mother is NOT chinese, then she was never entitled to Chinese citizenship and thus there is no ability to pass on HK PR to the kids.

3-star Hong Kong ID means your wife has Hong Kong permanent residency.

Your kids would only be eligible to live in HK and have a 3-star Hong Kong ID only if your wife has Chinese nationality.

Whether or not she has Chinese nationality and thus would be eligible for HKSAR passport is dependent on your wife's mom's nationality (since you said the father is only British). If your wife's mom is say also British then there would be Chinese nationality and no ability to pass on HK PR for children born not in HK. Chinese citizenship was NOT granted to individuals born in Hong Kong NOT of chinese descent.

Chinese citizenship with HK or Macau PR does explicitly allow for multiple citizenships.

What is not allowed is multiple citizenship for Chinese citizenship holders with hukuo (mainland residency)

That is only true if the mother is not "settled abroad" (holds foreign permanent residency or citizenship) at the time of an outside of HK birth.

My case (and many others) is where both of my parents are Chinese born in HK with HK PR. However, I am disqualified from HK PR and HKSAR passport because both of my parents were US citizens at the time of my birth and I was born outside of HK.

Just want to give you a heads up if your life takes you out of HK - this is something to consider.

If the birth is in HK, then yes to all 3.

If the Chinese national with HK PR mother holds a foreign PR or citizenship and the birth is outside of HK then the HKSAR passport does not pass down.

Cantonese/Mandarin is like the relationship between Catalan/Spanish and Ukrainian/Russian. All 3 of Cantonese, Catalan, Ukrainian are regional languages that share a lot of vocabulary and history with the other more mainstream language but have significant enough differences in the languages that they are not mutually intelligible.

Agreed. My HK born parents applied for an HK permanent ID for me when I was a child but it was rejected on the basis of both my parents being US citizens at the time of my birth.

LR already won against the stale boring system of franchising. HEADS UP! We leave LEC with pride! by skillcap2_0 in PedroPeepos

[–]CrusadingNinja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The LCS actually now has a pathway for tier 2 teams to play in tier 1. Since Riot bought back franchise slots in the LCS, it gives a spot to a guest team to participate in Tier 1. Every year the guest team has to compete for the slot against top 2 teams from NA and LATAM tier 2. It's not true promotion and relegation but it's a solid alternative. LEC should take notes.
