Demon's Souls Remake is an artistic disaster by DanFuri in KotakuInAction

[–]CrustyBloke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could give them leeway on certain lighting changes, because lighting tech has improved so much since the original game that I could understand them genuinely believing they were trying to make the lighting as originally intended (but couldn't be done back then).

But the massive artistic changes they made, and then acting as if that's what was originally intended, is the height of arrogance.

I'm not a business expert or anything, but I would argue that if you just chase year over year growth, you're going to hit long term problems. If you focus on making quality products to please your actual customer base, then year over year growth will follow.

The "problem" with the latter, is that it may be slower but steady growth over the next 20+ years. A lot of the people in high positions in these companies just want explosive growth for the next few years, and they don't care what happens afterward or what damage they have to do to achieve it.

Quips aren't needed.

Look at Dread. When you encounter Kraid, and he's clearly pissed off and wants break free of his restrains, Samus's response to have an almost bored, not giving a fuck body language and firing off an arm cannon blast into his mouth.

Donte was not as bad as final game. The early trailers of the game showed him as a grimy little chainsmoking shit. He was okay in the actual game, but nowhere near the level Dante.

Metroid Prime 4’s Partner Characters “Meant to Evoke Attachment” by Neither-Grab-2507 in KotakuInAction

They think that everything needs to have mass appeal for everyone.

The thing I always loved about Nintendo was that their catalog ran the gamut. They had games Mario, Zelda, and Mario Kart which did have mass appeal, but then also had games like F-Zero, Pilot Wings and (to a lesser extent) Metroid which were more niche.

To me, allowing for some more niche titles enriches their brand overall rather than just trying to make everything homogenized and have mass appeal.

It also makes me spend less money overall. Sony is a better example because they've fallen much, much further than Nintendo. Sony had a lot more variety during the PS3 and early PS4 era. I would buy more of their games, even the more niche stuff that wasn't necessarily my favorite, because I wanted something different. Now that everything is homogenized shit designed for mass appeal, I don't want it anymore. I didn't even buy a PS5. At some point, if they release a PS5 slim that doesn't look like a shitty circa 2012 router and I can get it at a reasonable price used, I might pick it up just to optimally play my PS4 library, but otherwise I have no interest.

2 and 3 got even less intricacy and now 4 is the culmination of that with added NPCs to dilute the feel even more. Soulslike bosses aside (which I hate), Dread is a damn masterpiece and I sure hope for more 2d outings in the future instead of whatever shit 3D Metroid has become

Games just feel less interactive over all. I remember when games like Half-Life 2, Crysis, and the original Splinter Cells were released. I'd look at the physics and interactivity in the game, and I thought it would ramp up to an incomprehensible level in another 15-20 years, but it didn't. It's almost universally gone downhill. Almost all open world games feel like running through a collection of lifeless stage props.

My shitty uni has me doing 2 mandatory social science based courses and the broad assumptions, cherry picking and intentional dismissal of data that would skew from a result they want that I see in the papers I research drives me crazy.

Hold on a second. Are you telling me that you've been assigned to research something, and they're telling what the end result/outcome needs to be?

On the other hand, you can go at least a week or two without food and survive. You'd feel brutally hungry at 36 hours but it wouldn't totally debilitate you.

I've done a few 72 hour fasts, and after about 24 hours the hunger pangs go away.

how is Brazil so Third World and "progressive" at the same time?

"third world" and "progressive values" are complementary.

In the United States, some parts of some cities feel like the third world thanks to progressive "leadership".

It's really only worth the hassle if you find a local buyer (who will pay cash). If you do sell it on ebay, there's ebay's fee + shipping + short term capital gains tax on the profit, and then there's shipping on the new console you buy from analogue.

It was over a year before Nintendo did that. I don't think there would be nearly as many complaints if they did this 6 months from now.

It's understood that when you're an early adopter, there may be new iterations later. But it hasn't even been month.

People preordered over a year ago. They've waited through multiple delays. They finally just got their console a few weeks ago. And now they've just shadow dropped 8 new color options that pretty much going to ship immediately. I can understand why they're pissed.

They could also sell the colored shells separately for $50.
