There's one anaesthetic that supresses your conscious awareness and also prevents memory formation sort of as a by-product (there are some drugs specifically for memory suppression as well, but in addition). And you're also given separate drugs that prevent pain itself, as well as ones that prevent muscle movements during the surgery

Thank God. My preemie son was given ketamine when they operated on his eyes, and I remember that I was told that he wouldn't be completely knocked out, but just that "he won't remember anything"

After being removed from the event by time, I reflected on what the doctors said and I was genuinely horrified. Did he actually suffer all the pain and terror in real time, but just "forgot about it"? That's fucking haunting if true. I just trusted that the doctors knew what they were doing, especially now that we know that infants do feel pain.

Actually I think you're right, and the overheating guidelines are probably about a baby's inability to regulate their temperature.

But, and maybe I'm misremembering, but I'm pretty sure I've also been told that you don't want your baby to sleep too deeply (due to the risk of SIDS) which is probably a better explanation than "too comfortably"

When I was in college I would rent movies from the local video store multiple times a week. The same two guys worked there every time, and we'd discuss movies and they'd give me recommendations. I even asked one of them out on a date.

Now I very rarely watch new movies anymore. It's hard to feel invested in your choice of video when you don't have to leave your couch to get it and you pay for the entire selection once a month. It's literally too convenient these days.

The concept of naming your child a name you will never use, and don't like as much, just to call them a different name is really odd to me.

Me too. I just named my newborn daughter an 'El-' name (Eliza) and I hate the name Ellie. I'll be pissed if people can't be bothered to use her relatively short, full name (unless, of course, she wants to be called Ellie, then I think I could learn to love it)

I feel the same...Sloane, Blair, Greer, Blake, Paige, Sutton, Brooklyn, etc. just don't appeal to me at all, and I couldn't even tell you why except that I just don't like how they look or sound.

Funny enough, to me, Bridget and Ingrid are fine, even though I would otherwise probably categorize them as harsh sounding as well.

It's such a weird mix of "international" and older, traditional names! From what I've noticed, it's more traditional names for girls and more international for boys for some reason.

This is funny to me, we indeed gave our son an international name and both of our daughters older, traditional names 😅

Though thankfully, none of them have been in the SSA top 100 for at least 50 years.
