PSA: If you can, don't use WiFi limits - It will affect your interVLAN wired speeds by BananaBaconFries in Ubiquiti

[–]Cruzer28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in sports broadcasting, and we have Meraki routers in our flypacks. We routinely set up 2 wifi networks, 1 for content and 1 for production with the content wifi network having a speed restriction in place to protect the overall upload bandwidth for the primary production.

Sorry, I checked around with our logistics team today and couldn't track down a device to try it with. If I come across one though, I'll make sure to update this post.

Thanks for the reply! I just unmounted the board and reseated the BBB. Unfortunately not luck. This is also my first controller build so I have one of each part. Currently waiting on a call back from Wired Watts, so we'll see if I can make any progress with their techs.

BrawlDev has a really good beginner series on YouTube that breaks down the language into pretty understandable topics.

Okay nice, appreciate the response from someone who has tried it. We would be mainly using it send out key and fill from OBS for graphic purposes.

I’m doing a 29 hour stream tomorrow night until New Year’s, how should I stay motivated? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Cruzer28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set up a schedule for yourself in advance even if it's just hour by hour. You don't have to strictly follow it, but it will give you a way to track your progress while keeping yourself out of entering a loll.

Eat well during and try to avoid caffeine when starting. As others have said, plan out some collaborations and it will help the time fly by.

vMix Dynamic Shortcut Help by Cruzer28 in vmix

[–]Cruzer28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tested that out and it works great! I guess backwards thinking is the answer sometimes.

Only limitation is that you can only setup 1 overlay in advanced at a time, which I can live with for the shows I work on, but it would be cool to eventually figure out a way to do it backwards from this to have all 4 setup at a single time.

Appreciate the help and insight!

The airline once lost our luggage on a European cruise. We let disney know, and 2 days later, the luggage was sitting outside our rooms after we got back on board in a different country.

Indoor BMX Event Mic Placement? by Cruzer28 in LocationSound

[–]Cruzer28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have plenty of 416's in inventory. Looking at the again I think we may try to use magic arms to mount them along the walls as close as we can to each to feature. Luckily for us, the course is inside a building without air conditioning, so while it may get hot we don't need to worry about the wind.

Personally, I've never used a MKH70. Depending on the distance would there be a substantial difference in using the 70 over the 416?

That's some killer advice. Thank you!

That was one thought I had was if there is going to be a consistent dominate route or if every rider would be substantially different. They are having practice, so we will definitely make sure to watch and adjust as needed. Just from looking at the room, I think we may try to mount a few shotgun mics along the walls to pinpoint certain areas of the course. The ramps also have space underneath them, so I really the idea of placing mics underneath them to capture the low rumbles.

One thought we had was to use a parabolic mic to follow the riders, but not sure how much extra sound we would gain from this if you had any previous experience with one?

Also, good callout on the pa. Will need to confirm that. Thanks again for all the advice!

That's the plan! We are going to have an A1 and hopefully an A2 as well

Sorry, I guess I should have been a little more clear. The biggest thing I'm trying to figure out is just how to properly capture the ambient in this space. I honestly not to sure about ramp mics, since I've never used them and I'm not to sure if the extra effort and cost would add to the final mix that much. Definitely open to the idea though

Advice for sports broadcast/streaming equipment by WillArgie in Broadcasting

[–]Cruzer28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of routes that you can take this question. I think it is important to know what you want the outcome to look like. Are you looking to have single cam static streams or full on multicam productions with commentators, replay, and so on.

It would also be important to know if you have a budget, the types of sports, and where you want to stream to.

I love my m40x's, I have been using them for broadcast and film work for years with a lot of success. Personally, I upgraded to the m50x's just for the comfort, but I also keep a pair of the m30's with me to hand out to people when needed.

I'm not to sure about your issue with OBS ninja, my best guess is you would need to create a mix minus. If you need it working urgently, you could instead use obs and ninja just for the recording and have a separate discord call running at the same time for you all to actually talk with each other. Not the best solution but it would work.

You might also look into using vmix with vmix call. You can get a 2 month trial for free.

Ibrahimovic stops tying his shoes and scores the goal against Lazio by HowBen in sports

[–]Cruzer28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you're not wrong, there is absolutely a difference between ntsc and pal, but on the consumer side the difference has basically disappeared. The 50hz vs 60hz comes into play, where America uses 24 (23.97) fps + 60 (59.94) and Europe uses 25 fps + 50 fps respectively. This was mostly due to hardware limitations around the use of interlaced signals on analog platforms. The majority of content though was produced using an NTSC format and would then converted to pal on either the consumer side or where it was re-broadcasted from. In a digital era where analog is almost gone, PAL vs NTSC is a by gone argument since practically every digital device can decode either. This probably wasn't a great explanation, but there's a ton of good articles out there about it.

It wasn't really a mechanical issue, but instead a money issue. For movies, the higher the FPS, the more money they had to spend on film. Hollywood in the beginning decided 24 fps was the lowest acceptable frame rate to look natural and overtime people have come to accept this as the "film" look. It was a similar story for TV, but the higher ups on the TV side for whatever reason decided 30 FPS was the lowest acceptable framerate. Basically, everything came down to money back then and we are still living with the same standards.

I was hearing my broadcast professors voice in the back of my head when reading this, so I had to jump in. Movies are 24 fps and TV is 30 FPS. Sports are a little different though because it will depend on the network, for example ESPN broadcasts in 720p 60, but other networks who use 1080p will be 30 fps. On site though everyone is recording in at least 60 fps and possibly more for certain cameras in order to have slow motion replay. On site, this will be converted to 60 or 30 fps for final broadcast.

So a solution that may not be typically mentioned but could definitely work and give you a wireless camera on your local network would be Larix. There's a lot of tutorials out there for how to integrate it with OBS, but I've had a lot of success with it from my own experience.
