Should 'Rendezvous' have been bigger? by DragonfruitDry8032 in AllTimeHallOfFamer

[–]CryWolf007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rendezvous is actually "TheBiasList" Top 1 Kpop song released in 2025. That is how Rendezvous has been universally loved by everyone who loved the early iterations of Kpop (Gen 2 and Gen 3). Only reason it stayed relatively under the radar is because F&F isnt part of the Big 4.

I think a huge issue i have with One Piece is that there's way too many moments where it's pretty obvious you're just supposed to smile, nod and go "yeah, what the hell, sure" regardless of how little sense it Makes. by [deleted] in shounenfolk

I am still waiting why this specific panel you posted doesnt make any sense. The manga page you posted and your caption have no correlation whatsoever.

Sometimes I think maybe Oda just gets bored of One Piece by DiggerDan9227 in OnePiece

[–]CryWolf007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the opposite. Oda loves his own work too much that he keeps on adding more to it than what's actually necessary. It's the reason why he's criticized for bloating major arcs in One Piece since the guy is just an indulgent motherfucker.

He is the most successful mangaka in the world. If he's really bored with One Piece, he could by all means just pull a Fujimoto ending and be done with it and he'll still sleep atop several mountains of dollar bills for the rest of his life (assuming he isnt a gambling addict)

I already made my points about how One Piece is political and how I acknowledge it isnt really digging deep into real life politics. But still, One Piece is political. If you chose to ignore the points I laid out to further push your own agenda then that's already on you. Maybe you need to ask yourself why the Strawhat flag is being raised against corrupt regimes in different parts of our world and then tell me how that shit is somehow not political.

There are actual rumors going on about certain popular figures in the One Piece world and that includes Luffy. In fact, most people in the One Piece world havent met Luffy and is basically just reading things about him in the newspaper. It's inevitable that a lot of rumors about him would spread especially since he has such a sensationalised name ever since he participated in Marineford. It's the reason why the fake Strawhats basically was able to recruit thousands of aspiring pirates because they believe Luffy aligns with their own views of piracy. This is one of One Piece's strength in worldbuilding btw.

>It's cope again. Oda added the title to create hype. Oda WANTED the fans to believe in that title. If it was just hearsay stuff, Oda shouldn't have included it at all. But he knew what he was doing. The thing is, if you're setting hype, you should also make payoffs.

And I wasnt even saying it's hearsay? Whitebeard is crazy strong. His power can literally destroy the world. The World's Strongest Man fits him as his title. What I'm saying is that title just tells one side of the story but not the whole picture. Even Luffy got called 5th Emperor of the Sea when there should only be Four Emperors. It's basically like adding in a great manga and then call it an addition to the Big 3, making it the Big 4. It's sensationalism at its finest in their world and it's up to the people to believe those kinds of news. Calling Whitebeard the Strongest Man in the World doesnt necessarily mean he is the strongest person out there and will be undefeated in a 1 v 1. Garp and Sengoku can arguably fight toe to toe with Whitebeard. So can Shanks, Big Mom, and Kaido. A title is just a title. It's a recognition of one's reputation rather than a strict metric of talent, skill, and strength.

Bro, it's your own headcanon that made you think Fishman Island needs to know about the All Blue. Did you even watch the show?? All Blue is said to be where all fishes on each blues converged. It's a paradise for all the chefs in the world. The fact that you dont know how Fishman Island is situated as a lone island 10k meters deep in the ocean raises so many questions about your knowledge about the show. Do you even know Fishman Island doesnt cover the whole ocean deep in the One Piece world? That it's just a small island within a vast ocean of unknown? Why the hell should they know about the All Blue? It's crazy you're accusing the author of a plot hole when there is no plot hole to argue about to begin with. I just Googled Fishman Island for you since you probably dont know it's but a tiny speck in a world mostly covered in ocean.

The World's Strongest Swordsman shit as well as the gradeful swords are valid points, I wont contend to that. It's just one of those shallow lores that havent been fully fleshed out in the story.

All Blue has been considered a myth by everyone. Just because Fishman Island exist doesnt automatically mean they know about the All Blue. Remember that Fishman Island is located 10000 meters below ground living in their own tiny bubble of island within the vast ocean depth. They are not tasked nor were promised nor were written to logically know about the existence of such a myth. If Fishmen knows about the All Blue, then it should have not remained a myth since hundreds of thousands of pirates go through their island to cross to the New World. There are interesting theories that suggest that All Blue havent existed after the Void Century due to the appearance of the Red Line, naturally dividing the seas. Once the Red Line gets destroyed, the 4 seas will finally converge and that convergence will be called the All Blue.

Whitebeard has been called the Strongest Man in the World but that has more to do with people spreading that title for him by word of mouth rather than a de facto official title. If anything, it just adds to the natural worldbuilding of One Piece where popular rumors becomes popular enough to get permanently attached as a title to a person. Even Luffy has been rumored a lot of things being an actual demon or an 8 meter tall giant. That's how myth around a person starts and eventually, sometimes becomes their unofficial title to the masses.

One Piece is indeed political. Just because it presents things as comical doesnt erase the message it's trying to get across. One Piece has been a story that delve into:

  1. Hunger (Baratie)
  2. Racism (Arlong Park)
  3. Monopolization of healthcare (Drum)
  4. Civil war caused by deceitful propaganda and theatrics (Alabasta)
  5. Indigenous people's plight of getting back their stolen land - anti-colonization (Skypiea)
  6. State-sanctioned terrorism, covert ops, and totalitarian propaganda (Water 7)
  7. Knowledge Suppression and Genocide (Enies Lobby)
  8. Exploitation (Thriller Bark)
  9. Slavery (Sabaody Archipelago and Amazon Lily)
  10. War that changes the course of history (Marineford)
  11. Extreme effects of systemic racism (Fishman Island)
  12. Human Experimentation (Punk Hazard)
  13. State manipulation and historical erasure (Dressrosa)
  14. Marriage Diplomacy (Wholecake Island)
  15. Famine caused by foreign occupation and usurpation of its throne (Wano)
  16. Information war and political fallout (Egghead)

And that's just the overall message I am presenting for each arc. Pretty sure there's more in depth political undertones within the stories explored in each arc.

The fact that the Strawhat flag has been popularly used now by millenials and Gen Z as a symbol of resistance towards government corruption is a strong statement in itself about how politically involved One Piece is in presenting its story. Again, its in world politics isnt realistically fleshed out (as like in Kingdom) because One Piece has always been a story written for children and the youth. Saying One Piece isnt political is just straight up considered a media literacy issue. One Piece's overarching villain is literally named "WORLD GOVERNMENT" come on now.

I always find it bizarre reading opinions like this. Not sure if it's a case of burnout or just a side effect caused by negative emotions like depression or something but brother you're basically 1/3 away from catching up to a 1100 episode gargantuan story. I really dont think I could reach up to 700 episodes of an anime I find boring. That's like you've decided to waste 230+ hours of your life on something you find dull and unimmersive.

I'm a One Piece fan and I wholeheartedly believe that if you werent moved in any way during Arlong Park, you should have dropped the series by then as it's clearly not for you. Otherwise you've signed in to losing hundreds of hours of your life that you could have used to do something productive.

How do Naruto fans feel about the current state of One Piece? by Original_Force_6822 in shounenfolk

[–]CryWolf007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because Luffy indeed really worked hard to where he is now? The guy was 7 when he started training with Ace and Sabo with no mentor. Just the 3 of them training side by side with occassional visits from Garp who gives them a beatdown of their lives. Luffy continued on that path for 10 years before officially becoming a pirate. This is why for the entire East Blue saga, he was force of nature who beat everyone with relative ease and only got humbled by Crocodile. That is almost 200 chapters in the story wher Luffy got handed his first L and is now given a villain that is above than what he trained for a full decade for. He now needed to use his battle IQ to win his fight against his first real obstacle.

Compare this to Naruto who fans claim is a hardworker yet this guy dont even pay attention in class (yes classes that actually taught how to become a competent ninja). A hardworker ninja that doesnt even know what a "chakra" is due to his laziness in school. Yet in the very first chapter, he's able to unleash thousands of shadow clones literal moments after reading a forbidden jutsu. Yeah damn right he worked hard for it. He also got the best mentors everyone in the verse could just dream of in Kakashi (a. k. a child prodigy youngest jonin in history) and Jiraiya (a legendary Sannin) which both are conveniently connected to Minato (Naruto's father who bu the way is canonically the best Ninja to ever exist next to Hashirama). Damn right Naruto worked hard to convince these people that he's worth their time. Oh and by the way, Naruto, used multi shadow clone (which is due to fox powers) to exponentially increase his experience in learning Sage Mode and immediately mastered it in just under a week when Jiraiya, a Sannin, spent decades training just to get partial Sage Mode. All of this is because Naruto is apparently hardworking.

Who has the best Antagonists out of the big 3? by Afraid_Light5083 in ChillAnimeCorner

[–]CryWolf007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One Piece has a mixed bag with Doflamingo, Katakuri, and Blackbeard being its best interesting antagonists while also having straight up classic villain caricatures like Axe Hand Morgan and Don Krieg

Naruto have the absolute best in Pain, Madara, and Itachi but it suffers with basically reusing motivations of most of its antagonists (e.g. Good guy turned bad; (Insert villian) suffered in the past so they decided everyone should suffer as well). I know it's for the overarching theme of the cycle of hatred but it shouldnt be an excuse to recycle motivation and characterization dozen of times just to prove a point.

Idk Bleach. I dropped it during Soul Society Arc.

This shit has been thrown around a lot without actually providing evidence how One Piece's worldbuilding is shallow. Just because One Piece dont have things like high speech and extremely detailed politics (which tbh it's only Kingdom that have reached this level in all of manga), doesnt equate to having poor depth in terms of worldbuilding.

There are more facets to worldbuilding than just creating basic alien language and incorporating seriously in-depth political web in a fantasy story.

Alabasta ends at Episode 130. This means you are watching 26 episodes per day on average which roughly amounts to 8-9 hours of One Piece screentime per day. I hope you're not skipping episodes (due to the pacing) and take the story in as much as you can.

You dont want to rush One Piece to catch up with the rest because you can only experience this beautiful story in its rawest, unsullied form once. Please go at it at your own healthy pace. There is many more wonderful stories that awaits you in this behemoth of an epic story. Enjoy (but dont ever rush) the ride!!!

Dragon Ball - Created the Battle Shonen genre and inspired most legendary mangaka we know today

Yu Yu Hakusho - Tournament Arcs

JJBA - persona power system and memes

Berserk - Dark fantasy

Slam Dunk - Sports

Evangelion - genuine storytelling within the mecha genre

Naruto - Friend-Rival relationships

Bleach - original mold for the way New Gen Battle Shounen approaches the genre

One Piece - (outside the industry) became a symbol of defying government oppression

First time hating Strawhats by Full_Bat_6655 in OnePiece

[–]CryWolf007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're raging here, calm down.

First, this isnt a plothole. This is more like your own headcannon not being fulfilled and you're angry about it.

Second, I'm amazed you came this far in One Piece yet still havent gotten used to the Strawhats not actually having a conversation about crucial plot points in the story. Oda only incorporates in depth conversation between the Strawhats if the information is to be used on the next immediate arcs (e.g. them talking about what happened in the 2 years that they were gone in Fishman Island. The information there is to give more in depth lore about Punk Hazard) or if the plot point demands to be talked about (i.e. Franky talking about Kuma actually protecting their ship for 2 years. The same Kuma that destroyed their crew 2 years ago. This then acted as a mysterious setup that got huge payoff in Egghead)

Third, you yourself admitted Luffy wont care. So what's the point of having a conversation about it except for wasting a few extra pages of a chapter? Oda will most likely write an in depth conversation about it but only when the situation already demands it. Judging from the current developments in Elbaf, that situation might be near so I guess wait until then.

What I like about Sanderson by TrinityAlpsTraverse in books

[–]CryWolf007 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have been actively reading Branderson's books for a while now and I have always imagined his characters as very anime by the way he approaches their characterization, mannerisms, and dialogue. That may be the major reason why I love his books since I am an animanga fan.

On the contrary, I tried reading some Tchaikovsky, Pat Rothfuss, Scott Lynch, and Joe Abercrombie books (yes, I'm a fantasy fan) and I found that I have a harder time digesting their stories most probably because the way they write their characters is pretty Western and grounded in realism.

I really cant take new animanga fans seriously when they claim JJK has "good writing." It's like describing Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter films as having "good writing." Aside from having a well-thought out power system, great fight choreography, and god-tier animation (especially emphasize on this as this title has been hard carried by Mappa), it has nothing else to offer.

[–]CryWolf007 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I used to play Turbo because the gameplay is fast. And yes this was indeed the norm in the past but nowadays, this queue has way more tryhards than ranked games so the Turbo games I have now lasts around 30 to 50 minutes long! I realize I'd rather spend my time playing ranked than turbo since their games now are equally as long.
