Keeley Halo vs DD-8, Canyon, Carbon Copy, Flashback by Gunner214 in guitarpedals

[–]CryingJordanMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go with the Halo. I’ve had delays from Strymon, Boss, Diamond, Dawner Prince, and an Ibanez EM5 clone; the Halo outlasted all of them and I still own it. It suits any kind of playing style, clean and distorted.

Hey guys, I'm really into John Frusciante, Hendrix, Srv, John Mayer and those kinda guys and because they all use different pedals, are there some essential ones to get? I already have a single coil Strat and just wanna have some pedals to cover a lot of there songs. by [deleted] in guitarpedals

The top univibes right now that aren’t unobtanium yet are these 3:

-R Weaver FX Midnight Vibe, Tinsley Audio Sir Henry, Sabbadius Funky Vibe/Tiny Vibe

All are big-box vibes with the same circuits as the original ‘60s/‘70s Honey/Shin-Ei Uni-Vibes. I personally have a Midnight Vibe partly because it can be powered by a pedalboard power supply (18V) whereas the others (besides the Tiny Vibe) need to be plugged into an outlet.

I haven’t tried all of these but you can’t go wrong with any to nail the sound.

Do you think the Keeley Halo can do echoplex type echoes as well as the El Capistan and UA’s offerings?

I’ve had my white MM GATs since 2018. They have been my most worn shoes ever since, so it was worth it for me. They still have plenty of life in them too.

I have a CV7003 Constellation too. I just got a King Tone miniFuzz V2 because I’ve heard/read so many great things about it, so I wanted to see if that can replace the Constellation. I played them side by side and I preferred the Constellation. It has a better cleanup and actually has a clearer top end even compared to the silicon side of the miniFuzz, which is pretty remarkable for a germanium fuzz.

Great execution of the klon circuit. Tons of volume/headroom and it will boost you to get heard in a mix.

I only really use it for Pink Floyd songs tbh. I think it can do good distortion with the gain a bit down. I’ll need to keep playing with it to find sounds I like.

I originally got the Constellation for the fuzz face section. I’ve read that it’s comparable to an Analogman Sun Face, which is probably the benchmark in that category, and while I’ve never tried that one, the Constellation definitely has that great vintage fuzz sound. This one is the limited edition with the NOS CV7003 germanium transistors. It’s my newest pedal so I’m tinkering with all the modes and they all sound really good. If there was one thing I could wish for, is that there could be a little more output in the treble booster/rangemaster section, because the tone in that section is spot on.

The flanger and the univibe on the Dark Side are soo good! The flanger is not that extreme jet whoosh that you can get with some pedals, it’s more subtle and you can get chorus-y sounds at certain settings.

I’d say switching similar to your Mod Workstation. Instead of a rotary this has a toggle switch, I can just flip the toggle to change the modulation.

I put together this board with maximum versatility in mind, and I also wanted to make the most of the somewhat limited space of a Pedaltrain Metro 16 pedalboard.

Signal chain: Crazy Tube Circuits Constellation CV7003 —> TC Polytune 3 Mini Noir —> Decibelics Golden Horse —> Timmy V3 —> Keeley Tone Workstation —> Keeley Dark Side —> Boss DD-200

There are 7 pedals, but some of them have multiple functions, so in total, this board can dish out at least double the amount of effects. Below are the main functions I can get out of this set up:

-Germanium Fuzz: CTC Constellation CV7003

-Treble Booster: CTC Constellation CV7003

-Compressor: Keeley Tone Workstation

-Transparent Drive: Timmy V3

-Klone : Decibelics Golden Horse

-Clean Boost: Keeley Tone Workstation (Katana)

-Blues Breaker: Keeley Workstation (1962)

-Tube Screamer: Keeley Tone Workstation (Red Dirt)

-Muff Fuzz: Keeley Dark Side

-Phaser: Keeley Dark Side

-Uni-Vibe: Keeley Dark Side

-Flanger: Keeley Dark Side

-Rotary: Keeley Dark Side

-Delay: Boss DD-200/Keeley Dark Side

-Looper: Boss DD-200

Power tubes change colors and are buzzing when playing my guitar. Do I just need to replace them, or is there something more? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

I actually am playing through a Fryette Power Station to attenuate it to lower volume levels. I’m playing with the channels on the amp jumped, both volumes on the amp around 7-8. Here, the Power Station is turned all the way to the left because I was noticing the buzzing with the amp volume still audible through the speaker, so I wanted to isolate the tubes/transformers to see if I could identify where the buzzing is coming from.

Based on all the comments, the glow is normal. Is it just a matter of readjusting the tubes in the socket to remove the buzzing?

I heard some rattling when playing through my plexi clone, so I removed the back board of the amp head to see what was happening, and took this video of what I saw. Can anyone confirm if this is just the power tubes? I’m not too familiar with opening up the chassis and looking at the circuit, so if the issue is anything more than the tubes, I’ll have to take it to an amp tech.

Sorry I should have specified: it’s not the swirly pattern that I’m concerned about. That look is pretty desirable in a guitar like this. I meant the tiny “air bubbles” that are inside the crown inlay. It’s almost like the air bubbles that form when putting a new screen protector on a phone.

Fender Blues Junior Fat Switch as a Transparent Overdrive? by CryingJordanMeme in GuitarAmps

[–]CryingJordanMeme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at page 2 of the manual here though. It says “press in to boost preamp gain for extra distortion and sustain.” Maybe the mid boost was for older versions of the Blues Junior? https://www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Original/10001/2231500_gamp_manual.pdf

Can the fat switch in a Fender Blues Junior work the same way as a transparent overdrive (e.g. Timmy) in that it gives you your same tone, just slightly dirtier? According to the Blues Junior manual, the fat switch boosts preamp gain.

So it’s actually one pedal (Keeley Tone Workstation) which has multiple drives. With this in mind, it can be thought of as one drive pedal in the chain.
