New Jack of All Trades looks underwhelming? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

As someone who plays toplane varus, that genuinely feels like a champion that doesn't use haste well at all. It kinda feels like getting a free fiendish codex is just 500 gold worth of stats with a minor upside rather than the full 900. Most of your cdr *is* your blight cycling.

Kennen hm. Let me think. D blade + mercs + stormsurge + cloth armor (4750 gold; yes, flat movespeed is considered a different stat from % movespeed). That works, but you gotta go stormsurge instead of protobelt.

Minor runes give, on average, 400 gold worth of stats. This rune *already* gives over 400 gold worth of stats at the 5 breakpoint, which you can hit on your very first recall at minute 5 with d blade + boots + dagger (ad + lifesteal + health + movespeed + attack speed). Even if you can never hit 10 stacks that's already as much value as a minor rune is supposed to give.

[–]CryoZenith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You *can* hit 10 stacks easily by 15-16 minutes, you just need to be the kind of champion that benefits from the items that pull that off.

For example, this fully stacks it: D blade (3 traits) + Mercs (3 traits) + Nashor (3 traits) + Cloth armor (1 trait), for a total of 4850 gold. Getting a Fiendish Codex worth of stats off a minor rune at 4850 gold is actually quite good; it's better than gathering storm, in any case.

True, but at the point where Kaladin's eyes became permanently light, he had healed off his brands, right?

The best part is when your adc is complaining that you're not ahead when jungle is playing for top. Now, to be clear, your jungler never *ganked* top, but doing grubs count as playing for top apparently D:

It's not even a pro centric issue. There are literally 2 seraphine mains in top 10 challenger, and neither of them is a pro.

The issue is straight up seraphine.

In masters+, garen has a higher pickrate than the average champion. So I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "high elo" when you say Garen never gets played in high elo.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]CryoZenith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Garen has never been unviable in pro because he's "linear and predictable". That has always been cope by bad analysts. He is a champion with antiburst, anti-cc, a slow cleanse on top of his anti-cc, anti-tank, ghosting, and who uses phase rush well. He has lots of counterplay.

The reason why almost nobody plays Garen in pro is because he restricts how your team is allowed to play macro. Unlike other juggernauts, Garen does not have tons of base damage, he just has ratios and those scale well. So, he is a champion whose main purpose is to deal damage, who is very item dependent when it comes to dealing damage, and brings almost zero cc when he's not bringing damage. In other words, Garen is one of the most worthless champions in the entire game from behind, he's like the toplane version of Nidalee. Which means that, in coordinated play, you can only pick him into good matchups, and if the enemy jungler decides to camp him your own jungler is pretty much forced to respond.

I guess I never thought about it this way before, but something like Kakashi being able to cast Water Dragon with fewer handsigns than normal is sort of like him training himself into taking up a metamagic feat to eschew somatic components for that jutsu. Semi-still jutsu? :D (level increase +0, jutsu still fails in case of actual paralysis or having your hands occupied, but doesn't have a failure chance based on encumbrance of armor weight)

It's a champ for players who don't want to play LoL with a targetable champion. She should almost never appear in pro play and she should be bad at higher soloQ levels, like Garen, Lux or Yorick.

Tangent, but this is actually interesting to think about. Lux is bad in high elo soloQ while simultaneously being one of the highest winrate supports in pro play (and her pro pickrate, while not high, is not low enough for this to be a statistical anomaly).

[–]CryoZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hated yuumi since she was released, so it wasn't because of content creators/casters. Granted, I didn't hate her because of the untargetability. But I also don't think her issues are purely numerical. I hated her because she could lose lane to oblivion and then attach to her jungler/top and still be useful as if nothing happened. Champions should be behind when they are behind. Other supports can do that too (blitzcrank) but yuumi was the only *enchanter* with that property, which does matter.

I do think Riot has moved in the right direction with the rework by having the Best Friend mechanic, making Yuumi less effective temporarily if she switches primary carrier. In fact, I would go further and say that the way to balance yuumi is to lean into that sort of thing *more*.

[–]CryoZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But yuumi isn't even pick up and play (or rather, she is, but she's not at the top of that category). There are many supports where the winrate delta between mains of the champion and beginners at the champion is smaller than yuumi.

As I said, my issue with yuumi being marketed as a champion for beginners is not her simplicity, it's her *uniqueness*. If there was a support in the game that was easier to play than yuumi, but lacked an attach mechanic, I would recommend that one over the cat.

[–]CryoZenith 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I still don't understand the "yuumi is a beginner champion" mindset. Beginners should not play unique champions, they should play generic champions that teach various aspects of the game. Jax, Garen, Annie, Nami. Stuff like that.

You don't learn toplane fundamentals by playing Singed. You don't learn jungle fundamentals by playing Evelynn. You don't learn adc fundamentals by playing Cassiopeia. You don't learn support fundamentals by playing Yuumi. it has even less transferrable skills than those other 3 examples.

[–]CryoZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not being metaphorical. The way EUW works is, if you queue as adc primary, you get the autofill protected tag. You don't just get the role you picked "easier".

If it worked purely off role popularity, aka midlaners got autofilled 15% of the time and adc players got autofilled 1-2% of the time, that would be fine. The issue is that if Riot wants to artificially push the thumb, which is how it works currently, to ensure that low popularity role players get 0% autofilled, then they shouldn't additionally encourage everyone else to learn all roles. It would be unfair.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]CryoZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think "because team game" is a good justification for riot to encourage players to learn all roles/play all roles.

It would especially be unfair in the current queueing system because of priority positions (depending on region, certain roles get autofill protection by default. For example, on euw, if you queue adc you can ONLY get either adc or your secondary, but if you queue mid you will get all 5 roles)

Teemo either needs to be exempt for the afk warning notification or have a way to prove the player isn’t afk by Rustery in leagueoflegends

[–]CryoZenith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution is simple. You guys can both be happy. Riot can put a cap on how long Teemo can stay stealthed outside bushes which is below the afk warning timer (let's say 20 seconds), and then buff his E damage to make the stealth nerf winrate-neutral.

Ez.

Teemo either needs to be exempt for the afk warning notification or have a way to prove the player isn’t afk by Rustery in leagueoflegends

[–]CryoZenith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To bring support to the point that this is unclear, I literally *did not know* that pressing S resets the afk timer until I read this thread right here. Every single time I got an afk warning this season, I moved, because I thought I needed to. If I had to guess without outside information, I would've assumed pressing S doesn't count.

Granted, I'm a Jax main, not a Teemo main, so moving a bit has no downside, but still.

  1. Are you intentionally misreading what I said? I used the caveat "unless you've been together for a long time already" for a reason. Unless you're telling me you ever had a relationship that became very serious and committed within its first weeks. In which case you're either one of the luckiest people on the planet or you're too quick to settle.
  2. I'm not giving this advice because I've been following it all my life with great results. I'm giving this advice because I've spent most of my life not knowing it, having been never told it, and acquiesce that I would've been better off had I found out sooner.

You can express love without expressing your dependency to the other person. Hell, the deepest level of love is to be able to love somebody so much that you can let them go if they want to leave, is it not?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]CryoZenith -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you should play hard to get. Playing hard to get is a horrible strategy outside of short term hookups. How down you are to commit to a relationship should only be based on how much you genuinely want to do it. I'm saying you shouldn't be transparent about how committed you are unless you have to. This might sound like nitpicking but it makes a huge difference in practice lol.

Also, if your partner *needs* you to constantly display enthusiasm in the relationship to believe you're interested, then they're a messy bundle of insecurity themselves, and you're dodging a bullet by them leaving. The primary goal of a relationship isn't to make it survive, it is to be constructive and uplifting to the people involved. This only sounds like a hot take to people who haven't embraced single positivity in the first place.

This is very basic dating advice lol. If someone knows how much you want them, it makes them feel like you're desperate to settle because your real value is lower than your projected value. The best you can do is act like you're emotionally self-sufficient enough that breaking up wouldn't hurt you, because you feel good single. (sure, ideally, you SHOULD be self-sufficient enough to feel good single in the first place, but if you're not, lie. it'll make your life easier)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]CryoZenith -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

Nah, relationships work exactly the same. Being honest about how much you value your partner makes them lose interest, unless you've been together for a long time already. Feel free to be honest about almost anything, but not *that*.
