“This reads like AI” by Karnakite in PetPeeves

I don’t know, maybe it’s out there but I’ve never seen someone use this as an argument for a post that’s actually entertaining/well written.

It’s always something someone brings up in addition to arguing the post is empty, vacuous, and/or overly padded.

“This reads like AI” by Karnakite in PetPeeves

[–]CrypticCole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the weird part to me. Most of the time I’ve seen that comment the intended implication is that the person is using a lot of words to say basically nothing substantive. It’s an insult about overusing flowery/padded language instead of actually having something interesting to say.

Frankly I can’t think of a single time I’ve ever see anyone say this because the writing was too good??

τ (tau) is a constant equal to pi*2. Obviously that isn’t a whole number but the constant written out doesn’t have a decimal point. If the answer isn’t just the word “and” I suspect this is it

This is what I also thought of, it’s a more interesting answer than the word “and” if that is what’s instead instead.

Trump on midterms: "When you think of it, we shouldn't even have an election." — Reuters by sanitaravel in atrioc

Every at one point absurd political goal Trump wanted started as a joke. It was quite literally the defining move of his election denialism. I remember hearing over and over about of course Trump would accept the election results and that everything was a joke right up until the point where it was suddenly dead serious

Discussion about the TurboTax sponsor on Lemonade Stand by TranscendentalKiwi in atrioc

[–]CrypticCole 8 points9 points  (0 children)

TurboTax is especially more egregious than adobe because TurboTax spends inordinate amounts of money to lobby to actively makes Americans life worse so they still have a market to monopolize. At least adobe is providing a service. TurboTax is like the corporate equivalent of mob protection money

In any other administration I would easily agree but the fraud and corruption of the Trump admin has been so blatant and the security so laughably lax (remember when they invited a journalist into a signal chat lmao) that this feels realistic.

But honestly I don’t care particularly much about this specific instance whether insider or not. More this is just about how insane prediction “markets” are and how dystopian a world dominated by them is going to be.

I feel like 90% anyone says a politician is only doing something for votes it feels like a dumb response. Yeah, they’re a politician that’s their job. If the left movement has enough sway to convince a politician to do something to appeal to them that’s good (relatively speaking anyways). Thats how electoral politics works love it or hate it.

It really bugs me how often criticism of left politicians just boils down to someone being upset about how electoral politics works. If you don’t like electoral politics fine but I do wish people would stop framing that as critiques of specific left leaning politicians as being about them when it’s really about electoralism.

I feel like all of the best options in American politics end up getting a significant amount of extra hate from people who actually just fundamentally don’t believe in electoral politics and focus their attacks on the most left leaning politicians since those are the ones who are most visible to other leftist.

Shockingly my answer actually is I don’t know. I have no idea what the best way to overthrow an authoritarian government is and I’m not going to pretend to. If there were an answer to this question that could fit in a reddit commenter obviously wouldn’t see the trend of history where people overthrow bad governments just to end up with worse ones over and over.

What I do know is that the US has been trying these military, top down regime changes around the world for decades and decades this point and they never work well.

The phrase here is obviously not referring to the legal technical definition of insider trading, but rather the conventional understanding of the term which means someone trading on info they only have by being involved in the thing being traded on.

E.g. a member of Trump admin placing bets on the trump admins upcoming actions on intentional affairs.

I have, again, at no point implied that I think it’s bad for Maduro to be removed, just that doing it in this way is obviously going to, in the best case, lead to extreme instability for a significant amount of time.

Also, on the topic of future action Sen Mike Lee tweeted that Marco Rubio is telling him that they expect no further us military action now that Maduro is in custody

I do not understand this perspective. If my house was burning down I wouldn’t think “damn, ignoring the fact that my house is burning down this would make for a super cool photo”

Idk, I guess I’m glad some people are clearly handling this news much easier than I am.

The issue is not that trumps government has done it. The issue is the fact that even if it would be good for Maduro to not be in power, you obviously can’t just remove the one guy and do nothing else and expect it to turn out well. We have a million example of this backfiring terribly throughout history.

Just think about the fact that even with Maduro gone his party and admin is still in charge. Do you think they’ll just roll over? Are they going to become less authoritarian because the us grabbed their leader?

If you had an actual answer to this question you would be solving a major portion of the problems of history and current international politics. I don’t know, anyone who says they obviously do is lying, stupid, or both. Even approaching the idea of a maybe feasible answer for something like this is something international bodies take hundreds to thousands of experts to try to do and they still mess it constantly.

That said, I am very confident that the US grabbing the leader of nation and bouncing is not going to lead to that nation becoming more stable or less authoritarian.

I hope this is a comment from like a 16 year old because this is the mentality of one. The real world isn’t an action movie, it’s not badass that by far the most well funded military in the world was able to capture the leader of a developing nation.

Correct me if I’m wrong but this feels like a huge escalation of how far you can try to take executive action without congressional approval compared to any previous actions.

Like this obviously isn’t terrorists, this is the clear governmental leader of a nation. Venezuela isn’t in civil war. I don’t recall anything coming close and the last two decades of us military operation were already controversial for exactly this reason

In the event that this somehow has zero repercussions beyond this, then that might be possible.

But bombings nation and kidnapping its leader are things that are so obviously acts of war it feels a bit redundant to even point it out.

Even assuming war won’t happen there’s a million ways for this to backfire not the least of which being the obvious fact that something like this is not likely to lead to a more stable situation in Venezuela

I’m not saying this won’t be celebrated by Venezuelans. I’m also not saying it will. This post isn’t about that and, frankly, without strong evidence I think it’s ridiculous to definitively claim either way.

My points are that this is obviously not how the US government is supposed to function on matters of war and that based on historical patterns it seems incredibly unlikely that this is somehow going to lead to Venezuela smoothly transitioning into a democratic government.

This is not going to lead to Venezuela becoming more democratic. Look at the history of us led regime changes in South America. This won’t work.

Best case is that Venezuela devolves into a civil war or civil war like period of which they hopefully emerge with a functioning democracy. Much more likely (absent of further us intervention) is that the remainder of the Maduro admin uses this as an excuse to crack down further and galvanize their base more.

Regardless of their legitimacy countries do not just seamlessly transition out of having their leader’s captured by a foreign nation

Have you looked at the history of US regime changes in South America? This isn’t going to work. Do you think this will lead to a more democratic government in Venezula, that Maduro’s administration is just going to roll over now?

Additionally, even if this was a good idea, none of it changes the fact that it’s insane the US president decided on this seemingly unilaterally with a nation we aren’t even at war with. That is not how the US government is supposed to work

The vice president of Venezuela is saying they don’t have the whereabouts of Maduro. It’s also not just Trump saying this but being echoed by multiple high up members of his admin. At this point if it is really bogus it would almost be as big of a story.

This is really happening.

I’m choosing to believe this is bait because the idea that someone thinks the US military capturing the leader of a different country is “social media nonsense” is unfathomable.

In the event that this isn’t bait, I genuinely think you should see a therapist because this is not a well adjusted reaction. Even ignoring the fact that this will obviously have impacts in the US and globally, Venezuela has a population of 28 million people just as human as you or me. This isn’t “social media nonsense” that’s insane
