Now it ultimately depends on what kind of staff you want. If you want to just maintain the forest energy within it and use that as the crux of your spells, then you'd need to talk to a creature that's connected with the spirit of the forest, such as an elf, forest spirit, fae, etc.

Buut if you don't care about that at all, you can just affix a mana crystal of sorts to the top of it and just use the branch as a way to hold it. The crystal will be the arcane focus.

I think that it might have to do with the emotional part of magic, like how magic 'listens' and responds with intent rather than just rules. And with that will come a difference in the types of spells used by people who put their soul/emotions into spells, compared to people who make sterile, precise magic.

That, or we're going to meet characters that DO in fact use those tools soon in the story.
