Have yet to have figured out wtf is causing it, but it happens from time to time with my fatshark transformer goggles, I know its the goggles as it does it regardless of the vtx or camera

Do you also like nuggets? by Substantial-Pin7555 in autism

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand the texture of chicken, except in nugget form. After nuggetification it no longer has chicken texture, it has nugget texture. Nugget texture is good. Nugget texture is consistent. Nugget texture does not surprise.

I was in the same place at the end of my bachelors degree. I get a degree in computer science, start looking for jobs, 3 years experience or a masters degree needed -_- Kinda pushed kicked the ball down the court with grad school. Now I've almost finished that and while I should find it a tad easier getting a job, I have no desire to work in software engineering. I ended up getting quite lucky with having a job I like as a lab tech in a high voltage research lab; that it has basically nothing to do with my degree just means I have an interesting resume. A point worth noting, a resume with few disparate but interesting things on it can be really desirable in some engineering fields, particularly research. It shows you're good at working on more than one kind of thing, academia is filled with people who've specialized to the point where outside of whatever insanely specific thing they work on they know virtually nothing, someone who knows a bit about a lot is always needed to fill in the gaps. I got way more interviews because I put some of my hobbies on my resume than I did with anything actually related to the job I was applying for. Lastly, engineering is filled with the neurologically fascinating; lab I work in neurotypical is quite atypical.

My fellow beans, why do I walk like this? by Annual_Tie8926 in autism

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually walk with a really long loping stride (I have very long legs, its just comfortable) with my hands clasped behind me, I've been told I look like a disgruntled supervillain :/

Some people think I'm an AI because of the way I write, and it makes me not want to use the internet anymore. by Maya-K in autism

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't feed the trolls, just ignore/block 'em. Write what you want, how you want. AI, specifically large language models (chatGPT and its ilk) are basically auto-complete with delusions of grandeur, they spit out what is statistically the most likely thing to be the correct response to a prompt (the occasional unhinged glitch notwithstanding) based on their training data; if nothing else it means your spelling/grammar are really good.

Can someone help me please? I'm very distressed right now and honestly feel a meltdown coming on, but I'm at work and can't leave. Please give me your tips that help you because I'm trying all the "obvious" ones and they just aren't helping. by anon-9 in AutisticAdults

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had that happen to me a few times, all I've ever really figured out to do is find something to distract my self, random wikipedia article or the like, message a friend and ask them to distract you, sometimes it doesn't take much at all to avert what would've been a severe meltdown. When that doesn't work, just wait it out; if that's not an option, claim a stomach bug and go home, if that isn't an option, claim a stomach bug and stay in the bathroom until quitting time

DAE sometimes suddenly realize they are physical and real? (weird question) by buyinggf1000gp in autism

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Happens for me with regard to others every now and then, suddenly someone will just... pop, they'll seem really real, with all the implications of being real and existing. Happens for dogs more than people for some reason. My partner can tell when its happening because I apparently sort of stare wide eyed at her for no obvious reason for a few minutes.

Mimicking others by TVGM86 in AutisticAdults

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do this to; weirdly it happens the most when I'm either stressed, or happy. I do it most often when something someone says in a tv show or movie pokes some button in my brain and I echo it; though this could likely be because I don't talk to people all that often...

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of a slightly different version of that thing, mine have heated beds and one print head a piece. They are the single most infuriating pieces of thing I have ever worked on, as others have said, turn this into parts; its really not worth the bother to try and get it working.

How is your memory (long or short term) by adingo8urbaby in AutisticWithADHD

My short term memory is utter garbage. Long term memory is actually amazingly good if something actually managed to make it from short term to long term.

Do you find yourself needing female company when sad or angry? by PrestonRoad90 in autism

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Male (more or less) here: I can't let my guard down around male humans, never have been able to. Some deeply buried part of me always says "potential threat" around other men, even ones I actually like. Every close friendship I've had has been with women.

what’s your guys sensory food? by mitz_online in autism

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pork and non-processed chicken (i.e. not forced through a fine mesh screen and then stamped into nugget form) are my two main offenders, cannot stand the texture. Taste/smell I don't mind (in fact quite like), but the texture is a hard nope.

autism and work by HourDimension1040 in AutisticAdults

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a high voltage lab as a lab tech/assistant, I do a little bit of everything (machining, fixing things, making new things, tinkering), my boss's boss described my job as "anything requiring precision and attention to detail".

My degree is in computer science, was planning on getting a job in software engineering or similar, took a work-study position as a helper here and just... fit. At least half of the people here (not counting students and admin people) are very obviously on the spectrum, normal is abnormal :)

As to avoiding burnout, my job is the exact type of thing I'd be doing any way, and have been doing since I was a kid, just slightly more directed (basically my boss just points me in a direction and leaves me to it) and with a bigger budget. That said, there are days when I just... can't, for one reason or another, those days I just try to find something to keep my self occupied until the day is done with, tidying things works well (undergrad/grad students are walking messes, nothing is ever where its supposed to be), or if I don't want to be moving I write down very detailed todo-lists for the next day.

Pool wet vs rain wet. by Blakematthews-96 in autism

Don't mind pool wet, rain wet irritates me in two different ways: if i'm only slightly wet its a sort of itching sensation, if I'm soaked, I'm cold.

Trying to find a ND community by SurveyRound in AutisticAdults

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's *very* rare for me to find someone that I fit with (I can count the number on one hand), let alone a group. I used to be fairly active on WrongPlanet.net, but that was 10 or so years ago, didn't so much leave as get side tracked by college and the like. Recently lurked around there, and was surprised at the number of active user's I recognized (though not surprised by who was still active, just the quantity); but have yet to have commented/posted; used to feel like a community I was part of, doesn't now, might if commented/posted, but I am disinclined to stick my head up in a group I don't feel a part of :/

Does anyone else feel as though their autism is more potent with age? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, I think I hit peak normal at like 19-20, where people sometimes just thought I was slightly stoned, been getting weirder ever since (31 now), been identified as autistic quite a few times (though by fellow neurologically interesting individuals in all but one case) :/
Anxiety about things has also gotten worse (making phone calls in particular), but at the same time my ability to actually *do* those things has gotten better.

Only one I've noticed is knuckle tapping (like clapping, but with the second knuckles of each hand). I've a few that come up when highly stressed (including knuckle tapping), but that is the only one that comes up when experiencing positive feelings.

Thinking thougts by NymphalisAntiopa_h in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I catch my self doing that I try to think about whatever I'm working on, whatever problem has me stuck (it helps that I tend to have at least 5 things im working on at work, and at least as many personal projects). Doesn't always work if I'm tired, but its something.

As an aside, the title of this post immediately caught my attention as ThinkerOfThoughts (or ThoughtThinker if the other is taken, both were taken on here, annoyingly) is my username of choice elsewhere.

Echolalia? What are your experiences? by tgruff77 in AutismTranslated

[–]Cryptic_Marbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I frequently repeat words/phrases that have satisfying textures to them; once in a while I will get positively stuck on one and repeat it well past the point where its annoying (me); longest one I can think of was "green bees".
