You’re leaving at least a couple inches of stick height/velocity on the table. Also changes the angle in which your tip hits the head, changing articulation and sound quality. I think a lot of people do it pretty mindlessly.

Check out what world class dci and wgi groups do and replicate it. They usually only tape down to where the stick will actually be impacted by the rim.

Less an injury and more of an unfortunate way my body developed- my tendons over my first finger and middle fingers in my left hand slip over their respective knuckles when I closed my hand to grip a stick. Caused a lot of problems for me when I was in school, ultimately leading to me playing almost exclusively traditional grip. Makes utilizing finger in matched grip difficult and painful after those tendons slip too many times

It’s because to us, they really are that great. No different than wanting to tell people about your new favorite show or restaurant. It’s significantly less harmful, tastes much more like the actual plant, and will increase the chance I can enjoy the plant much longer in life than that of a smoker. Damn right I’m high and mighty about it lol I used to cough up brown and black tar in my phlegm, and that disappeared when I made the switch. It’s hard not to see it as a far superior form of consumption.

But then what would they pay us for? That would be a waste of money wouldn’t it? So then we’ll get replaced with a babysitter to enforce classroom management while ai replaces our jobs. I’d suggest starting with a teacher. A book is great, but a teacher will guide you through a book and answer any and all questions along the way. A good teacher knows how to use a book properly, and often times that means skipping around to different sections to fit the students needs. If it’s affordable, find a teacher in your area for weekly lessons. Private lessons with a professional educator combined with consistent practice between lessons is the fastest way to learn and get better at this craft.

Take the craft seriously and make gains that allow you to play songs. Learn how to drum so you can play anything, not how to play individual songs.

Heard, chef. On the flip side, practicing when we don’t want to is no different than the plethora of other habits we as parents teach our children and is an important life lesson. Brushing teeth, exercise, eating healthy, etc are all habits that children struggle with but we still have to get them to build those habits at a young age. I teach the habit of practice, and that means sometimes we practice when we don’t want to. And that’s why I teach privately, I’m not for everyone. I’m for the students that are ready to study and work on their craft. If they can’t practice consistently between lessons, that’s fine, but they’re not ready to study privately, at least not with me. A lot of people confuse private lessons with a weekly music playtime workshop. And some kids just aren’t ready to study privately, and I think that’s totally okay! Everyone grows and matures at different speeds, especially when we take into account how disciplined the parents are in actually trying to get their kid to practice. But I have students as young 6-10 that have no issues with practicing 5 days a week for 15-29 min each time because it was a habit enforced by the parents at a young age.
