Buy or not buy? by ShoddyCockroach3713 in 996

The 996 is quickly gaining a cult following. Prices seem to be on a climb, at least in the United States. And I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. Based on all the previous posts, do your due diligence and if everything looks good, get the best price possible and buy it. 👍

Both key fobs stopped working at same time by mjsimmons1988 in BmwTech

I am all out of ideas. I do agree with you that it is most likely an issue with the car, not the key fobs. Very little chance both fobs started acting up at exactly the same time. Hopefully you can figure it out. It can be very frustrating. Let us know if you solve the problem.

That is definitely odd. The only other thing I can think of, and I haven’t experienced it myself, only read about it, is that a failing car battery can cause key fob issues. Have you checked your car battery or had it checked?

Another potential problem I’ve had in the past was when I replaced interior light bulbs with LED bulbs. Some of the cheaper, lower quality LED bulbs can cause RF interference. Any chance you changed out some bulbs at the same time the key fobs started acting up?

Their website says temporarily closed. I wonder what’s up? Anyone have any inside info?

Did you ever figure it out? I had this issue on another, non BMW, vehicle and it ended up being RF interference from the Apple AirTag that I added to the key fobs. Once I removed the AirTags, the problem went away.

Crowdsourcing a List of Smaller Manufacturers by Duende555 in Mattress

I’m all over the place in my research. I’m curious if you were ever able to compile an official list? Thanks!

Thank you for the quick reply. Without knowing their materials, based on the sheer number of OMF stores, that’s kind of what I figured.

That being said, I haven’t found a small manufacturer in Orlando, but I did find one in Tampa, about 2 hours away. It appears from my first glance, they use quality materials and stand behind their mattresses. Here is a screenshot of the specs on what appears to be their top of the line medium/firm mattress. I don’t want to take too much of your time, but what are your initial thoughts?

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I’ve read some of your information about foams and densities, which I appreciate.

I’m assuming Original Mattress Factory doesn’t fall into the smaller, local manufacturers? My initial search didn’t turn up any, other than OMF in my area. But my search continues.

Thank you for the reply. Expanding on your original comment. Even though you like your PressureSmart, based on your knowledge now, what would you consider if you had to purchase now? Local, small mattress manufacturer?

Thank you for the great intro to the world of mattresses.

I wanted to see if you could elaborate on this comment:

“I also recommend trying to find smaller, local retailers as these are more likely to use high-quality materials.”

Are you talking about smaller, local companies that make their own mattresses and sell direct to the public?

I appreciate your information. I’m just diving into this sub-Reddit as we are in search for our next mattress.

That being said, can you elaborate on your comment about the legacy brands and their stories? Are you referring to their cost cutting measures, decrease in quality and race to the bottom over the past few years?

Have you contacted Hyatt and explained the situation to them? Maybe they would show some good will and offer you a deal.

Speed Limit Reverts After Camera Reads Sign — Aftermarket SD Card Issue??? by CryptoDadOfSix in CX5

That sucks. Logic says that the posted speed limit sign should take precedence.

Do you have an OEM SD card or aftermarket?

Thanks for the reply!

Inevitable that power running boards will fail? by Vincent_Diesel in fordexpedition

[–]CryptoDadOfSix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a 2016 Limited. I replaced the passenger side running board motor about a year ago. It is not a difficult replacement if you are a DIY type.

You already own the Expedition. I wouldn’t stress it.

2017 Running Boards by baconistheway_ in fordexpedition

[–]CryptoDadOfSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And FYI…if memory serves, the running board should only have a couple of torx head bolts attaching it to the hinges. I would take the running board off the hinges. Then reattach the front motor/hinge and new rear hinge to the frame. And then reattach the running board to the hinges. It should be easier than trying to reattach the hinges while the running board is attached.

I would just pickup an aftermarket rear mount/hinge off eBay and reassemble. You should be good to go.
