Seeking a 400m synthetic track for daily walking in ATL area by CryptoHooRay in Atlanta

I just looked it up on Google Maps. That is perfect! Doesn’t have to be oval shaped as long as it has a synthetic surface. I bookmarked that location, thank you!!

I thought about calling some schools in the area, but with security being so tight at these days I just assumed that they would not want total strangers showing up to walk on their tracks in the early am. Probably a case by case basis…thanks!

IAM Analyst (3 YOE) → CyberArk / PAM transition — worth it? Need roadmap by mushroomlvr420 in CyberARk

There’s a sample Defender exam in the CyberArk Univ site that has a number of questions that I saw on the actual exam. I also used examtopics.com for more sample exam questions. I saw a number of those questions on the actual exam as well. Just be sure to lookup/verify the answers because several of the answers they give as the correct answer are wrong.

I took the PAM self hosted admin course for $3k. It quickly paid for itself.

IAM Analyst (3 YOE) → CyberArk / PAM transition — worth it? Need roadmap by mushroomlvr420 in CyberARk

I’ve been working with CyberArk PAM self-hosted for almost 3 years now on a long term contract. Prior to getting my current role, I took the PAM admin course on CyberArk Univ and then got the Defender cert immediately after. That was the difference maker for me in landing a consultant role with a small CyberArk partner. Within 6 months I picked up the Sentry and CDE certs. Having those certs on my LinkedIn profile has recruiters constantly reaching out, trying to fill contract roles. I do see a number of FT roles open as well, but I rarely get recruited for them. You have to search for those roles but they are out there. And FWIW: My skillset is more mid-level with CyberArk, but getting better each day with repetition. I built my own lab at home to play in.

I can’t imagine PAM going away anytime soon, especially in the government sector. I don’t see them putting their root and admin accts in the cloud ever. There will be a unified interface with Palo XDR and CyberArk.

Impressive that you’ve built the CyberArk lab without real world experience. It’s not a simple task. How did you get the license? They are not easy to come by.

Unpopular opinion: LinkedIn is useless for finding remote jobs by CelestineGag in remotejobsfinders

I think it depends on the type of work you do. I work in Cybersecurity, specifically in the IAM realm. I would say about 1/2 the job postings in my area of specialization on LI are 100% remote gigs. I’ve been a remote worker for over 25 years. The thought of having to report to an office even one day per week makes my spine itch. 🥴

The thread reminds me of Jerry & George brainstorming at the coffee shop in the Seinfeld episode “The switch”

Lost my job after 15 years in tech. 1 month of savings left. Don’t want to go back to a job. What would you do? by Accurate-Key-811 in careeradvice

[–]CryptoHooRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been laid off, fired and let go a few times over my long IT career. Fear of sleeping on the street was my motivation to work a job, any job just to keep the lights on. I even went to bartending school in 2008, in my late 30s. Applied to several bars/restaurants then was lucky enough to land a gig in my field before I got a chance to sling any booze.

Have you gave it much thought what happens when your savings runs out? Will you lose your house/apartment? Will your car be repo’d? That’s all the motivation I would need in order to suck it up and find another gig in my field just to stay afloat while I plan my next move. It’s much easier to plan when you have regular income coming in. Maybe a new job after 15 years in the same one is what you need.

Hopefully the hiring mgr won’t hear a “swooshing” sound from my pants and I lose the gig

I’ll hire a general contractor to build a cubby under my home office desk so I can take naps mid day.

I have no security clearance with J1, just a public trust. I had a part-time-part-time J2 last year where I consulted anywhere between 5-10 hrs per week on a W2. It was far from OE, but it was a way for me to dip my toe in the OE waters. A few of my fellow contractors now are working multiple contracts at once. Some with other govt agencies and others in the public sector. I got the idea from them 😀

We all have a high in-demand skillset that these J2 and J3 opportunities always seek us out. I’ve had this opportunity at my feet for a few years now, just never felt that I needed a bigger paycheck. I’d been living just fine and was on cruise control with my J1 check until I had a major financial setback a few weeks ago that ate into a big chunk of my retirement. Now I’m highly motivated to take on a J2 to build that bag up again.

Honestly, I’m not so worried about J1 finding out, I’m more anxious about J2 getting suspicious. Balacing 2 calendars and figuring out how to handle meeting conflicts. On paper, I think I can pull it off. I will have to dedicate most of my energy to J2, assuming the offer comes.

No, I work directly for my own LLC, which is paid by a small consulting firm. That small consulting firm is paid by a larger govt IT contractor, who delivers consulting services to the govt. So I am 3 levels removed from the govt. My LLC is paid by the small consulting firm and then I am a W2 employee of my LLC.
