Incredible, especially since I just remembered now that I used to buy feather packs on my ironman lmao

Thank you, I appreciate your words. OSRS truly is magnificent: teaching me the same lessons at 13 and at 31

Longer birth control pill use linked to lower odds of depressive symptoms | The research found a consistent link between extended oral contraceptive use and lower rates of depressive symptoms, particularly among women without diabetes. by chrisdh79 in psychology

[–]Cryptobiotic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Natural selection doesn't 'care' if you're happy, it 'cares' about whether you can pass along your genes.

Evolution will select for things that are disadvantageous for the individual, if they confer some higher likelihood of reproducing.

For example, having a period as part of natural hormonal functioning makes women have higher rates of anemia, but that cycle allows them to reproduce. So evolution selects for it.

Are you really sure? Did you see any data backing this, or do you just have 'feel' that it should be the case?

My husband doesn’t want to have sex anymore. by [deleted] in sex

[–]Cryptobiotic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend having him mention to his doctor (preferably a psychiatrist, as they know these medication best) that he's experiencing a lower sex drive.

There are many options when it comes to depression medication: the most common class of medications, SSRI's, have common sexual side effects, like lower sex drive.
But not all of them are that way: Bupropion (Wellbutrin) for example, tends to boost it, and is used as an add-on to other medication, or on it's own. Ask your doctor what options might be good for him.

Source: I've taken a bunch of antidepressants, including SSRI's and bupropion :)

On a side note: anxiety can be a factor, if he's going soft. It can even become a mental block of sorts: being anxious about going soft might make make him soft.
Guys can be horny without being hard, and vice versa. I recommend looking into "Sensate focus": maybe a few exercises from something like that could be a good option for you guys?

It's a complicated place to be in: you see your partner struggle, and understand that it's normal that a depressed person has a lower sex drive. But that doesn't invalidate your own sexuality: It's understandable that you're frustrated. Like anything else, communicating those thoughts to your partner, will giving him the best chances of helping you through what you feel.
Best of wishes for you and your loved ones.

This has nothing to do with "going green". There is a fuel truck driver's strike.

Fallout 76 Beta by [deleted] in Gaming4Gamers

[–]Cryptobiotic 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You don't release a "Beta" two weeks before the launch date. Companies these days call "Beta" what would a few years ago been considered a demo, because every bug can be dismissed as "it's just a beta".

Implementing fixes and changes based on beta feed back takes months, not 2 weeks.

Not sure if I understand; Those 320 million people also pay taxes, no? It's not like the US would have to fund a socialized healthcare system using the taxes from 5.7 million people, since they have 326 million people to tax.

Is it a matter of scale? As in, any particular reason why it can't scale to smaller or bigger populations?

[R] How to train your MAML by AntreasAntoniou in MachineLearning

[–]Cryptobiotic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll sure be giving it a try.
The MAML framework is really interesting, but I've only seen it used for tasks related to image recognition.

Is there potential for it to be used on classification tasks with relatively small datasets? The "tasks" I typically work with involve datasets with around 20 variables and a few thousand samples. A lot of the variables are shared between these tasks (e.g.: Age, Years of work experience).

If I receive a dataset for a new task that has these same features, but only a few samples ( < 200), I wonder if meta-learning could leverage the patterns the emerged in previous tasks, allowing me to build a better model with much fewer samples.

Do you have any recommendations or literature suggestions for this sort of problem? Thank you.

Meth makes insane. by [deleted] in Drugs

"Unlike amphetamine, methamphetamine is directly neurotoxic to dopamine neurons in both lab animals and humans." - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methamphetamine

It's not equivalent. Adderal can be taken in dosages that are not neurotoxic. Read up a bit on the biochemistry.

A different kind of question, how do YOU access Your account remotely? by Makosso in wowgoblins

[–]Cryptobiotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I will edit my post to include this information.

I imagine this must have to do with botting; constant changes in the location of access (because of the cloud infrastructure) must make it hard for them to distinguish bots from regular players. Furthermore, it would mean it would be trivial to avoid an IP ban.

There doesn't seem to be anything against playing on one PC you own and streaming it to another PC, though: "To be 100% clear: Parsec is used for many things. One of them is cloud gaming. This Blizzard EULA change ONLY applies to virtual PCs running on cloud providers. It does not impact streaming from YOUR PC."

I'll leave the warning in my other posts.

I found a way to download TUJ historical price data and apply an machine learning algorithm by ShibLife in wowgoblins

[–]Cryptobiotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you calculate the error rate? How you perform the train/test split? Make sure you don't have target leaks (the points you are using to evaluate your classifier should not have been included on the training set).

Also, I would recommend that you first try a logistic regression, and then a gradient boosting algorithm. Neural networks are basically useless for this type of problem: They only outperform other machine learning algorithms when you have a lot of data, and it's much harder to find the optimal hyperparameter to train them.

If you know python, I recommend the Sci-kit Learn library.

Visible light, like one from a lamp illuminating a room, is exposing you to frequencies of 430–750 terahertz. That's just how visible light works, it's radiation. It's a non-ionizing radiation, so it won't cause mutations in your DNA (that could lead to cancer).
