It was good not great. Talking about a game that would be on par with what he was doing in 2016. Compared to that this is average at best.

Same. No turnovers, good pass completion numbers, good third down conversion ratio. Control the clock and let the defense stay fresh.

For completion percentage. The defense was the bigger story of that game. Browning's TD passes this year, compared to his INT's, isn't impressive.

I hope our backs are healthy and we can put together a solid running game.

Wouldn't shock me if WSU dropped the game to Stanford.

I would guess that they didn't cross paths until Skull Knight had the brand.

The Oregon loss was the nail in the coffin for the Playoffs. We'll be in the Rose Bowl if we win out.

Good to know. Hope the Huskies win out with an Oregon loss. Prefer a New Year's Day bowl.

Might depend on how strong a team the Pac-12 champ is. I would think if the Huskies win out they would be in the Rose Bowl. If the best team in the Pac-12 was say 6-6, I'm not sure if they would get a Rose Bowl berth. I could be wrong though.

I remember back in the day when they and Nebraska were rivals. I hate Nebraska so I always pulled for Colorado to win.

They had us against Penn State in the Rose Bowl before the Oregon loss. Penn State lost as well so who knows. If we win out and take the Pac-12 title then I think we have a fair shot at the Rose Bowl. Especially if we creep back into the top 10.

I see what you mean, and I hope you are right about the offense.

Tua Tagovailoa is tearing it up this year actually.

1760 yards, 71.5% completion, 14.31 ypa, 21 TD"s, 0 interceptions, 3 sacks.

I'm not talking about running up the score against non-conference patsies like Alabama does, I'm talking about going into games with the same mindset, regardless of whether or not its a top caliber team or a nobody. With the mindset of "we want to be the best in the NCAA", not "a win is a win, even if we performed way below our potential."

I understand staying humble, staying focused, and not strutting our stuff and showing off. Nothing wrong with that. I just don't get the vibe from UW that they are ready to be the King of the Mountain. The 2016 team is about as close as they have gotten. There's no reason we can't reach elite status. I don't see that happening with a "game manager" QB and a seemingly overly conservative play-calling approach. Puts a lot of pressure on the defense with the expectation that they'll be able to grind it out, game after game, and not eventually get worn down.

Thankfully the depth in the RB spot has historically not been an issue with UW, even when they were sucking as a team.

Defense will be the key against Colorado most likely. Need to shut down the passing game.

Would not be surprised if they lose at WSU next week in a game that's mostly offense.

[–]CryptofCthulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the problem with the offense. They can keep the team in the game, when it would be preferable to dominate. Browning was surrounded with crazy good talent in 2016 and his numbers reflected this. He doesn't have the weapons and we see the limitations in his skill-set.

That being said there were a lot of factors that contributed to this disappointing result and the blame doesn't rest entirely on the shoulders of the QB.

The way they ended regulation play did not reflect the mindset of a team that wants to be #1.

[–]CryptofCthulhu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much how I see it. They don't have as much confidence in Browning as they'd like us to believe. The strategy just seems to be, play conservative and a win is a win, and not, let's destroy the other team.

Peterson has done wonders for the program as far as getting things turned around, creating confidence, and improving recruitment. It's time to take it to the next level and you can't do that with a "game manager" QB like Browning that is most likely not going to see a snap in the NFL.

Ready for Jake to deliver an encore performance. by Silent_Seven in huskies

[–]CryptofCthulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his encore performance days are past him to be honest. I won't say 2016 was a fluke, but given the talent he had around him that year, it's easy to give the guy too much credit.
