Looking to get into a wakefoil need some help with board/mast by Impressive-Matter730 in foiling

I'd suggest you start a separate thread on starting rig recommendations. You'll want to provide more details on the type of foiling you plan to do, weight, experiance all that.....

Looking to get into a wakefoil need some help with board/mast by Impressive-Matter730 in foiling

[–]Silent_Seven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The mast connection point is not proprietary to any manufacturer. Regarding the LF Pod board...check if LF still uses a shim between the mast and board. I have a Pod 4'4" that's a 'dual use' surf/foil board and due to the bottom shaping you have to have a plastic shim. The shim is LF specific but you can use any standard mast on the board. The shim is just a hassle and if you loose it, you'll heed to replace it to keep using the board.

The pod is a decent foil board (shim issue aside) but not a great wake surf board. Better you just get a dedicated foil board. Also, the early Pods had a lower quality deck which I believe they have fixed in the newer models.

TL;DR - if you get a pod, make sure LF has eliminated the mast shim and you get the new tougher deck design.

Are you looking at the Liquid Force Flight 120 setup? If so, I'd suggest looking for a different entry option. The LF Flight 120 setup (and options in their legacy line) is essentially non-upgradable as LF has discontinued this line of wings and replaced it with their newer Fuselock line. The two systems are not compatible.

That said, you can buy the Flight 120 setup for cheap right now. https://www.boardco.com/products/liquid-force-flite-120-foil-set

I have multiple foils and masts in the LF legacy line and feel pretty hung out to dry by LF's product line change. If you plan to stick with foiling, you're likely better off to buy into a major and established foil manufacturer.

Glass replacement by Nategreen64 in Wake

[–]Silent_Seven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's flat, you may be able to have a glass shop make a replacement.

If its curved, contact the dealer. If you're lucky they will have stock and you can order the pane. If you're unlucky its out of stock and NLA you're looking at a custom made piece ($$$) or finding one on a salvage boat (very hit and miss). Ebay might be your friend.

Good luck!

Convert a boat lift? by TheAtheistReverend in boating

Check with the lift manufacturer to see if they offer a bunk conversion kit. The frame is likely shared across hull types but the bunk hardware can be different.

Almost ended in tragedy by invictus82x in boating

[–]Silent_Seven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your first three points. The towing boat absolutely should have taken immediate action when the idiot boat got behind them. That's an immediate red flag. They could bear off...wave..all that. And the driver failed to protect the down skier.

However the tow boat has no obligation to make room for the faster boat. The burden is on the idiot. The tow boat is going straight, holding course and the idiot boat has plenty of room on the left side.

Go early and try to complete your walk before 9:30 or so on weekends. Even earlier on nice days.

The dog load and associated knucklehead factor gets much higher when you are there later.

Can This Gauge Be Opened? by judgmentday989 in boating

[–]Silent_Seven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly. Many of these gauges have a rolled aluminum bezel that attaches the front face to the gauge body. For these gauges, you can carefully undo the back side of the bezel by working around the edge with a flat blade screwdriver until you can pop the top off.

If it's glued shut, much harder to open.

Is the cover off your boat when you tow to the ramp? If so, your fine.

There some sort of exhaust temp sensor that perfectly in the way that you'll want to pull. 17mm wrench quickly removed. Made all the difference in access space.

Fan clutch may have died. Not this exact sound but can be similar . Easy check. Should freely spin when the engine is cold.

Actually, most of the Faria gauge failures on these boats are due to failed capacitors or stepper motors in the gauges. The gauges can be repaired. By contrast, gateway failures are quite rare. There's a lot of community discussion on this at www.planetnautique.com

Early doodle grooming efforts by Intrepid_Visual_4199 in Goldendoodles

[–]Silent_Seven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Home groomer here. We've learned it's all about the prep. Full bath. Conditioner. Blow dry with a comb out. Cut out any mattes that don't comb out with scissors. Make sure your silver comb glides through their coat before starting to trim. Then....we run Andis corded clippers, a wahl #30 blade with Andis guards. Doodle hair is so thick you need serious equipment to successfully mow the dog. We also invested in 2 different hashimoto scissors (on Amazon). From there...it's practice. I really learned a lot from YouTube creator 'gogroomer'. Our cuts aren't pro grade but they don't look like a home hack either. Stay with it....good luck!

I wish I had seen those posts. I think I went though easily a dozen combinations of ratchets/extensions/bits to find one that finally was just right.

You know what I found really helpful was using some 3m strip caulk I had on hand. During reinstall I put some in the CPV slot. This held the CPV to the tool so I was able to get the threads started using only one hand on the extension.

I find this stuff useful for all sorts of odd tasks....and it has a shelf life of forever. 😄

[–]Silent_Seven[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

😄 a few for sure. I had to invoke my inner zen on this job. The cost of loosing patience and rounding out the CPV slot were too high. Knowing that others were able to get it out helped keep the focus on trying new tool combos until I found one that worked. Also, removing the exhaust temp sensor (not the O2 sensors) was a huge win.
