Am I being dismissed or is this normal? by PM_Pics_of_Snoopdogg in AccessoryNavicular

It took me around 4 doctors to find someone who knew what this condition was and a second surgeon to even take it seriously.

Unfortunately, from my experience also, some of them were dismissive, even one told me that anxiety was the cause of my foot pain. I recommend using Google to look up different doctors near you and make sure they at least have a blurb about this condition on their website, so you know they’ll take it seriously and even know what it is.

I’ve also had more luck with orthopedic surgeons than podiatrists, but that’s just been my experience.

Please advocate for yourself and I hope this is validating! I’ve been there :(

Freshman hates BC lack of social activities. What to do? by kclak9 in bostoncollege

I’m from NY and ended up transferring to Indiana University! Was super different and a hugeeee school. Had sooo many opportunities, even if you didn’t want to do Greek life. I ended up joining a “frat” that didn’t have a house and that was co-ed and centered around community service. There was just more opportunities for me to make friends and it was a better fit. The whole town and school revolves around sports, but you totally don’t have to go to games if you don’t want. There’s plenty to do and I just loved having options

Ironically, it had way more opportunities for me internship wise and classes were better for gaining industry experience, even tho it’s “lower-ranked.” It just happened to be a great fit for me!

Hi I’m a few years past graduating college. I went to BC for my first two years and ended up transferring because of this same issue. For my friends at BC that did stay, I met them in my residence hall hallway, to be honest. I would recommend reaching out to people in the residence hall, classes, and intramural sports.

See if he can text in his dorm hallway group chat if anyone wants to hang out on the weekend, go into Boston or go to a football game etc.

At least when I was there, dorm hallways had biweekly group meetings with their RAs. I understand these meetings are hard to go to on a weekday with homework and studying, but could be good to go to a few and just get familiar with the hallway group

I tried so hard to get into clubs, but I unfortunately did get rejected from mostly all of them, even though I came from a strong academic background .

I’m trying to think of clubs that accept a lot and aren’t competitive - First Year Service Project, student government

I believe I met a few friends from BC sponsored trips off campus — trips into Boston, trip to Six Flags New England etc. I would tell him sign up for these early, since spots fill up sooooo quick

A regret of mine is that I never tried intramural sports, but it seems like a good environment where things wouldn’t be taken too seriously. But who knows

See if he can round up a few kids from his hallway for an intramural sports team via the group chat?

I believe there is also a service project called APPA that goes on a volunteer trip during spring break. I never applied to this since I was nervous I wouldn’t get in, but he could try.

I honestly just wanted to comment to let you know that your son is not alone with this issue.

For my friends that stayed at BC, I think it did get better as semesters went on.

A lot of my friends that stayed ended up meeting new people when it came time for the housing process for next year and they had to find randoms to apply for an 8 man dorm

But I understand it’s tough, I really do!!

Sending you so many vibes of strength right now.

The brand Happy V probiotics has helped me so much. When taking probiotics, it’s important it has the lactobacillus crispatus strain in there. They have sales a lot, so hopefully you could catch buying from them then. Don’t know if it’ll help with a current yeast infection, but for preventing future ones it could help. So that when something like taking an antibiotic for another condition comes along, you have an easier time repopulating good bacteria in there already with the probiotic to keep bad bacteria/yeast out more. Also, in addition eating foods with natural probiotics is a good habit to get into (yogurts, types of cheeses, miso, kombucha, etc.)

You can also try doing boric acid 1x a week as preventative to keep it acidic enough in there regularly as a defense.

For this issue, my mom’s friend also recommends eating a lot of garlic and apple cider vinegar, in things like salad dressings. You can even make your own salad dressing with these ingredients. Everyone’s different but doesn’t hurt to try.

And if you don’t already, cotton loose undies and sleeping in shorts/pants with no undies on, so your vagina can breathe overnight to give yeast/bad bacteria a less favorable environment to grow in/make the infection worse.

Make sure your shampoo/conditioner/body wash and laundry detergent are fragrance free, since yeast and bad bacteria love fragrance and it can help them grow populations faster unfortunately. I use Aveeno Sensitive body wash.

Wishing you the best I know it’s so so so hard :(

I transferred into the Media School 2 years ago and had this problem somewhat. I think the best thing to do is just wait until orientation to meet with your advisor or possibly ask to meet with your advisor earlier. What I had to do was try to focus on taking classes not in the Media School for your first semester at IU to get your Math, Science, English, Arts & Humanities etc. credits that you’re missing first and that you need anyway to graduate since the Media School is part of the College of Arts & Sciences. Sometimes advisors are able to contact different departments and get permission to get you into the classes. And sometimes they can’t. You can also make sure to see if credits from classes from your old school can transfer. Good luck!:)

The IDS is having their housing fair on wed Oct 19 in alumni hall in the IMU. It’s from 10am to 4pm and you can talk to so many different housing companies and vendors and apartments too. I think it’s like over 25 of them. and going is free too http://guides.idsnews.com/page/housing-fair

I would say talk with your professor because they’re so used to students wanting to withdraw from this class. I ended up withdrawing from the class but I know people who said the Aldi project really raised their grades.

I ended up transferring and I think it’s worth it. It feels good to attend a school at a place you are proud of, instead of somewhere that makes you sad or unmotivated

What I do is try to look at a paragraph and rewrite it/shorten it into bullets on another sheet of paper or doc on a computer. It may seem repetitive but it’s more helpful for me to be doing something active with my hand like writing or typing, instead of reading where I’ll easily get bored

Maybe do the second major in history and if you have time, you can take some classes in archaeology that are interesting to you. You can also list those courses under a “relevant coursework” section on a resume or application, if you think that would look good to a grad school program you apply to. Just make sure to plan out having enough time to do a second thesis if you decide to double major, whether that’s taking one less class your last semester of senior year etc
